The injuries had reached a critical point, but to make matters worse, the entire Time-Space Barrier began to vibrate, as if signaling the end of the world. It wasn't a Zombie invasion; rather, the ground itself seemed to be collapsing.
Zheng Yifan could only drag himself forward, using all his Vital Energy. His speed was slow, and it was a tremendous waste of Vital Energy.
More importantly, replenishing Vital Energy here was extremely difficult.
In just a few seconds, Zheng Yifan felt a surge of panic. The Time-Space Barrier was now completely filled with Vital Energy, which poured in like a torrent. The ground seemed to tremble as if the world were on the brink of collapse. Yet, the Time-Space Barrier remained unchanged.
Stars appeared in the sky, bringing with them countless pieces of information that continuously integrated and transformed, ultimately conveying a clear message to Zheng Yifan.
The Time-Space Barrier was beginning to shift constantly. It carried Earth closer to the Apocalyptic World through Temporal Turbulence. It was no longer fixed; he had no idea when it would return to its original state and merge into one again. The moment both worlds overlapped would likely be the moment of complete destruction.
However, now was the time. Zheng Yifan could already confirm that he was unlikely to die. The only challenge within the Time-Space Barrier was the issue of Vital Energy; without sufficient energy replenishment, his body would naturally deteriorate.
But now it was different; his body was continuously repairing itself. The Super Soldier Serum was working at full capacity. His body, once shattered into pieces, began to reassemble.
Fortunately, the Zombies' attacks were swift; his body had not yet misaligned or suffered severe trauma. Because they were so fast, the cross-section of their attacks was remarkably smooth. Once reconnected, it did not hinder the functioning of his original organs. When the Super Soldier Serum took effect, it acted more like super glue, binding his body together completely.
Zheng Yifan had never imagined that he would piece himself back together like a jigsaw puzzle.
The most troubling part was likely his brain; damage to the brain wasn't easily recoverable.
Yet Zheng Yifan found himself unable to think clearly; he could only rely on instinct.
The surrounding Time-Space Barrier seemed to sense Zheng Yifan's state and continuously fed energy back to him. In his Storage Space, the Zombie Crystal rapidly consumed energy, and waves of green power began to rejuvenate every cell in Zheng Yifan's body.
Even more terrifying was what lay behind him; an immense energy urged forth from the Tumor growing behind him, slowly maturing into something complete.
It was a pair of wings, with pure white feathers and a shimmering golden skeleton, resembling the wings of a celestial being. However, thinking of them that way would be a mistake. Zheng Yifan's wings were nothing less than deadly weapons, the most ferocious of instruments capable of breaking through any enemy's defenses and tearing them apart in an instant.
His body slowly began to recover; it had already become a reality. It just needed some time—perhaps one moment, or maybe two. Everything was ready, and this time would not be long.
But at that moment, disaster was destined to strike.
In the real world, the sky seemed to be completely torn apart. The stars in the night sky twinkled as if they were blinking, and then in the blink of an eye, they vanished without a trace. The entire universe seemed to shift once more, and the starry sky disappeared in an instant.
A terrifying aura emanated from mid-air; it truly felt like the end of the world, but the real horror was just beginning to unfold.
In mid-air, tiny bits of Vital Energy descended, reaching humanity and gradually being absorbed into their bodies.
The strong young men only felt a tingling sensation in their bodies, a slight itchiness with no significant change. However, some unfortunate souls began to sense that the world had completely transformed.
Their bodies underwent violent changes; it felt as if they were suffocating. Then came the stasis of blood throughout their bodies. In less than a minute, they lost consciousness.
More than half of the world's population instantly turned into Zombies. However, Earth was still different from the Apocalyptic World; there, the ratio of people turning into Zombies was much higher due to the abundant Vital Energy. In contrast, the Vital Energy in the real world was not as plentiful; thus, the number and nature of changes varied.
In the real world, Firearms were still usable, and humanity still had access to Electricity.
Yet panic erupted worldwide; it felt as if everyone had entered a war zone. Various military forces became their lifelines.
However, during this time frame, humanity had little room for survival. Mutations also occurred within the military ranks. Aside from those Fighting Nations equipped with weapons nearby, most people lacked access to Firearms. Even those fortunate enough to be training discovered that their comrades suddenly lunged at them, heralding death.
Although newly mutated Zombies were not particularly strong—they could hardly run—the true confrontation revealed that their biting power and physical strength had all been enhanced.
Chaos ensued as the world plunged into the Black Ebony Period. The sun no longer existed; only dim light remained. Photosynthesis could not sustain humanity worldwide, and food reserves became the last available refuge.
Fortunately, it was the season for harvest, and grains, vegetables, and fruits had begun to be collected.
Death had already sounded the alarm. The world was descending into chaos and madness.
Only those closest to Zheng Yifan could calmly endure the initial turmoil, as they had long since consumed the Essence.
Zheng Yifan did not lack for that substance; naturally, his family members were prioritized for its use.
Within the Time-Space Barrier, Zheng Yifan's body convulsed continuously, as if trying to crawl into the real world to take a look. However, he was destined to be disappointed. He still had not recovered.
At the same time, presidents from various countries were dying almost simultaneously, transforming into Zombies. The main executives of the nation collectively became those monsters, and even the military leaders had turned into Zombies.
There were almost no survivors because they were too old. No longer in their youth, this was destined to be an era for the young. The mortality rate for those over forty had surged to its peak, and for those over fifty, it was nearly one hundred percent. They had completely turned into Zombies.
The truly successful individuals were almost all wiped out.
The world had become an era for the young. Fires of war began to ignite everywhere; however, the most unfortunate were those in countries with Weapon Control. Even though Firearms could be used, they still had no opportunity to possess them. They had to fight and scramble to reclaim their weapons to survive. This was a new game of elimination—the strong survived, and only those who dared to fight lived on.
The weak! Death! (To be continued...)
