"Let's take him down?" The teacher standing on the fortress suddenly seemed to grow taller, and those beside him saw his figure as a mighty tree, branching out from the leader.
He was now capable of fighting alone, leading other Superpowered Individuals into an unprecedented battle.
With just a few hundred people, they planned to confront a Million Zombies.
The goal was not the unrealistic total annihilation but to force out those special Zombies among them.
The teacher had this confidence, and the other Fire Elemental Espers shared it too; it was trust in the leader and in the teacher.
Dozens of people exchanged glances and burst into laughter.
"Let’s just take him down! If we succeed, we’ll be remembered in history. If we die, well, we’re dead! What more is there to say?" Sun Hai laughed loudly, though his eyes kept scanning for his son.
"Dad! What are you talking about? This is our lifetime! The two of us, father and son, making our mark on the battlefield. In the future, your grandson will be proud! If I have a son someday and he asks me, 'Dad! Why didn’t you participate in that battle at Fortress Jiang?' what face will I have left?" Sun Yang said with a broad smile to his father.
Hearing this, Sun Hai's face flushed red, and he nodded in agreement.
The teacher listened nearby, a slight smile appearing on his face, though it vanished as quickly as it came.
"Since we've made our decision, let’s prepare for battle! Get yourselves into the best condition possible. We might fall at any moment or lose team members. But there’s one requirement: everyone must follow orders. Absolutely no individual actions allowed! Do you understand?"
The teacher's words announced that this operation was indeed heading toward the center of the Zombie horde for a decapitation strike. They had no idea how many enemies awaited them or what kind of attacks they would face.
However, nothing could stop their fight or their madness. They only knew that if these Zombies got too close to the walls, who knew what chaos might ensue? Defense was not merely about holding back; seeking initiative while defending was what they should do.
"Prepare for deployment!" In the crowd, everyone was already geared up. A large number of Low-Level Zombies were still half-alive during the Siege; their Claws couldn't even scratch the walls. Moreover, the warriors from Hope Gathering Place above had begun their assault, wielding mostly incendiary bombs. When those bombs were dropped, they caused widespread death—far more effective than any Superpowered Individual.
Seeing that their defenses faced no pressure, the Fire Elemental Espers exchanged glances and simultaneously executed an action that no one could have imagined.
They all jumped off the fortress wall at once, their movements synchronized and parallel to the ground, holding hands with one another. There was no sign of panic; only a sense of boldness filled their hearts as they gazed into the distance with unwavering determination.
"Are you ready?" the teacher shouted loudly. They were only four or five meters above the ground, almost pressing down on Zombie's head.
Fortunately, they were Superpowered Individuals, possessing extraordinary reflexes and control abilities.
"Alright!" The synchronized voices were met with a powerful thrust.
It wasn't the force of a push from behind. Instead, flames erupted from everyone's feet. The flames emitted by the powerful Superpowered Individuals were initially fierce, while others produced only weak flickers.
Among them, the most terrifying were the father and son, Sun Yang, held by the teacher's left and right hands. Their Superpower was the strongest, and their strength was unmatched. Thankfully, the teacher had prepared in advance to keep them close; otherwise, chaos would have led to a collision with the wall.
In less than a second, everyone's flame power suddenly vanished. Then, the flames that had erupted from their feet became perfectly balanced, thanks to the control of Flame Coordinator's Superpower.
No energy could escape his hands.
Everything became natural. Quick and swift. Sun Hai and the others gradually left the fortress.
Behind them, those watching the battlefield suddenly gasped!
"What are they doing? Why are they charging out?" On the screen was an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle returning to replenish its energy. This device had been on continuous reconnaissance missions and was finally back for refueling, but at that moment, it caught sight of the teacher leading Sun Hai and his son to ambush the enemy.
"It's those fire-type Superpowered Individuals. This is absolute madness! Even if there are special enemies among the Zombie horde, they are definitely not something these few can handle! Who can notify them to come back quickly? We can't afford unnecessary casualties!" Left Guard shouted angrily at the monitor.
But no one responded to him; everyone was focused on the display, where those men were ready to sacrifice their lives at any moment.
"Legion Commander, please take a look at this document!" A woman resembling a secretary approached and handed a file to Left Guard.
The furious Left Guard glanced at the document and immediately fell silent, studying it closely. With each word he read, he felt a chill run down his spine.
The special Zombie in this apocalypse had different lethality; any Zombie hiding among ordinary ones must possess assassination capabilities. Zhou Rui had nearly completely replicated the enemy's image; it was clear that this Zombie's combat power was extraordinary. What caught attention even more was the organization described by Zhou Rui, resembling a rope-like structure within Pan Quan. That was the most terrifying aspect of that entire Zombie. Any Zombie exhibiting strange phenomena was not ordinary. Moreover, their level had already surpassed Second Tier, though they had yet to reach the level of Third Stage.
There was something even more disgusting than the situation itself: the Zombie Crystal in their heads.
Without the Zombie Crystal, they were merely another type of Zombie born from the original ones, or weapons created from them. Aside from eliminating the main Zombies, these types of Zombies were practically endless, and that was what terrified them the most.
If they couldn't find the root cause, the entire fortress could very well be buried under a sea of Zombies due to this special kind.
The target that the teacher and his group aimed for was the central area among these Zombies. Once they reached that place, returning would be nearly impossible.
They went with a determination to face death. They were a group of warriors. The Left Guard removed a freshly molded sample of military uniform and bowed deeply with his left hand on his shoulder. This was a salute to the battle heroes.
This also meant that the Left Guard had already accepted that they would not return alive.
No matter how those behind looked at it, the flames of war on the front lines were about to ignite. Dozens of Superpowered Individuals were engulfed in flames. The Sun Hai father and son’s Superpower was visibly weakened, yet everyone else’s power had simultaneously increased. Not only their strength but also their temperature; what could originally only ignite Ordinary Zombies now burned hotter, making it difficult for Second-Level Zombies to withstand this enhanced flame.
However, they did not linger for a moment; everyone had a single goal: the central area of those strange Zombies.
Here lay a large number of special Zombies along with some Third-Stage Zombies. This was abnormal within the sea of Zombies, clearly indicating that those Leader Zombies paid extra attention to this area.
“Prepare for battle!” The teacher locked onto a Third Stage Sanghas in the central position, and everyone felt his fire-based Superpower being mobilized. All eyes focused intently on what appeared to be an ordinary Zombie, which stood eerily still while surrounding Zombies constantly moved about. But this one remained motionless, surrounded by Third-Stage Zombies and numerous special Zombies.
Such figures were almost unseen in the sea of Zombies, yet they were clearly visible from above.
Inside the Gathering Place, someone had already transmitted images. However, it was determined to be a Zombie Leader.
Zombie Leaders had this habit of remaining still among their kind. They certainly didn’t have the guts to venture to the front lines!
What the teacher and his group needed to do was gamble; gamble that this Zombie was indeed that special one. Otherwise, everything would be in vain.
“Ready!” everyone echoed in unison as flames surged around them. They were prepared to face death and naturally intended to unleash their most powerful moves at the end; since they were ready to die, they feared nothing.
"Brothers! Where do you go after death?" With a smile, he quietly uttered words that resonated with everyone’s hearts.
Where do people go after they die? They used to believe in heaven and hell. But now, they believed that hell was everywhere.
"After death, one will definitely reach heaven. It is a place without war, where you can reunite with all your family, and be with your girlfriend!" Tears glistened in his eyes, slowly drifting into the air before shattering into four pieces.
"Fight! Don't think too much! We will definitely return, I promise you, we will." The teacher shouted words he himself did not fully believe, summoning all his strength, aiming at the Third-Stage Zombie on the ground.
The Third-Stage Zombie had taken on an incredibly bizarre form; only upon closer inspection could one see that there was nothing beneath its feet, as if a camouflage cloth covered everything. The fabric was at least several dozen square meters large and would not simply be laid out on the ground. The only explanation was that this was the birthplace of the strange Zombie.
"Everyone prepare!" the teacher roared loudly, and the flames of power from everyone surged simultaneously. This time, he was prepared to gamble everything with them.
The flames of battle were about to descend upon the Zombie's head; it was the final fury of dozens of Superpowered Individuals.
"Roar!" An ancient roar echoed as if it came from the dawn of time. The Third-Stage Zombie split in half, and from beneath the torn fabric emerged a deep trench filled with numerous hive-like structures. Inside each compartment lay a mutated Zombie. Ordinary Second-Level Zombies jumped in and transformed into Mutated Zombies before their eyes. In just a few dozen seconds, a wave of over ten Zombies had been converted. More Zombies, resembling meatballs, slowly approached the opening of this Zombie and began to crawl inside.
Then, countless Human Corpses appeared in the large pit on the ground.
This Zombie actually consumed human corpses for nourishment, allowing it to almost infinitely convert energy to upgrade ordinary Second-Level Zombies.
If this Fellow was not eliminated, it would lay a foundation for future calamity. If it leveled up a few more times, would all Third-Stage Zombies become Mutated Zombies? Would humanity have any chance of survival?
"Kill it! Our mission will be complete! Sacrifice ourselves for righteousness, right now!" The teacher shouted fiercely, as if he saw former comrades waving at him—his Old Captain, who once stood against dozens of Zombies while he plunged into the sea of undead, leaving hope for him to survive.
That was his wife; in a desperate situation, she had cut her wrist and charged down that several hundred-meter-long dead end just to give him a chance to live.
Now it was finally his turn. He felt strangely at ease as if he had laid down all burdens; all that mattered was the battle itself—life or death did not matter as long as there was a fight.
"Flames!" he roared loudly, seemingly wanting to shout out his own depression along with it!
"Flame!" With a unified roar, everyone unleashed their Superpowers to the utmost, disregarding any potential harm to their bodies or whether they would ever advance again. They abandoned everything for this desperate battle; it was a fight to the death—either you die or I do.
This battle was destined to have no victor, only death—only death!
The teacher's thunderous shout summoned the greatest strength from all the warriors. Their Superpowers were not evenly distributed, nor were they concentrated solely on themselves.
He understood that if they were shared equally, each person's Superpower might seem substantial, but it wouldn't inflict real damage. If focused on himself, he would surely be unable to withstand such an overwhelming amount of Superpower. Exploding from within became inevitable.
Only Sun Yang, this Fellow with limitless potential far exceeding that of his father, was qualified to wield the Superpower and truly surpass everyone else to become the ultimate victor.
Or perhaps he would be the last survivor—not for any particular reason, but simply because he was the youngest and most gifted.
"Use the anticipated Nine Thunderfire Formation! Success or failure hinges on this moment. If we try another method, there will absolutely be no Survivors. The chances of success are fifty-fifty at best. But with the Nine Thunderfire Formation, failure is not an option. Even if the formation fails, in that instant of failure, the backlash will be enough to take down this Zombie!" Gradually, the teacher descended into the horde of Zombies. The others landed in a bizarre formation around him.
The Nine Thunderfire Formation sounded like a post-apocalyptic cultivation array, but in reality, it was an entirely different concept.
It was a formation they had developed—one that could only exist in their imagination. When this formation was truly enacted, it would signify death.
Now, they activated this formation, gathering all flames onto one person while compressing everyone's Superpower source to its absolute limit before unleashing it!
With maximum force unleashed, the resulting power could rival that of a nuclear bomb; only the person at the center might survive. (To be continued...)
