Climbing the straight stairs without any support was quite challenging, but in Zheng Yifan's mind, he already had the answer: he could easily ascend.
The windows of the street-facing rooms on the first four floors were equipped with safety rails. By climbing along these rails, he could swiftly move upward.
Zheng Yifan imagined himself as a monkey, like Tarzan, with hands that wielded strength beyond measure and a body lighter than a feather. The force exerted while climbing the safety rails propelled him swiftly into the air. The Adamantium Shield plunged heavily into the wall, providing him with leverage to continue leaping. He kept soaring higher and higher.
His body glided through the air continuously. He considered using the Silver Spear, but inserting the long spear into the wall made him uncertain about retrieving it, especially when he reached above the fourth floor.
With determination, he drove the Adamantium Shield deep into the wall, flipping his body around it. He then stomped down hard on the shield, propelling himself upward rapidly. The Adamantium Shield followed his ascent, its unmatched strength making him feel as if he were a bird soaring through the sky.
Ascend! Ascend! He climbed relentlessly as if there were no end in sight. His power was immense, his body light; even a dozen stories of low buildings could not hinder Zheng Yifan's rapid ascent—fast! Extremely fast! He moved through the air like lightning.
He felt like a hawk surveying all its prey. In that moment, he understood why humanity yearned to fly.
The unparalleled sensation of freedom in the air felt like mastering everything within his sight. Overlooking the world below, this feeling was simply magnificent. Zheng Yifan sensed that powerful force within him as he continued to float, suspended in midair, stepping onto the Adamantium Shield to climb higher.
Ten seconds? Perhaps even less!
In under ten seconds, Zheng Yifan had conquered the entire low building completely. His figure floated in midair, and he could clearly see Liu Hao across from him.
In midair, Liu Hao meticulously observed every potential target—each one represented a means for him to acquire resources; all supplies appeared like lambs ready for slaughter.
With just one arrow shot, he could draw all those resources into his territory. Nothing could escape his hunt.
As he soared through the air, Zheng Yifan felt transformed into a bird, drifting slowly before landing on top of the low building. He quietly awaited Liu Hao's arrival.
Across from him, at the Telecom Building, the Huang Brothers were ascending slowly in an elevator toward their destination—the top floor—to reclaim their supplies.
"Whoosh!" An arrow soared through the air in an arc, generating immense suction power.
Telecom Building Gathering Place
How much food is there? No one knows. Zheng Yifan truly witnessed it this time; it was like a massive warehouse. The top floor had never been visited by anyone; it belonged to Night Wolf. Now, boxes of instant noodles and sausages floated in the air, along with countless bags of rice. The amount of food was overwhelming, making it nearly impossible for Liu Hao to fully Attract them with his arrows.
There were hundreds of boxes of instant noodles slowly drifting down from the sky, beginning to fly towards the low buildings.
Zheng Yifan watched as the instant noodles fell like rain, a sense of amusement filling his heart. He gently waved his hands, and the Storage Space absorbed all the noodles that had landed.
Next came the grains: rice and White Flour, along with various coarse grains. In the Apocalyptic World, the price of coarse grains had significantly decreased. Dietary fiber held no value in this new world; they only needed to know which foods contained higher calories.
Power! Only with sufficient calories could they gain enough strength to fill their stomachs.
The supplies in the Telecom Building accounted for almost one-third of all resources in Ancheng. Although it seemed like a lot, with a population of hundreds of thousands, if everyone had just one hearty meal, it would be nearly depleted.
And the time they needed to endure seemed endless—forever. It would never stop until the end of their lives.
Food floated in the air, and the atmosphere inside the Telecom Building was almost boiling. This was food they had long awaited, food that had been snatched from their mouths. Each portion was stained with blood; the population of Ancheng had drastically decreased—not because of Zombies, but due to food scarcity! The lack of food led them to die from hunger.
“Bastard! How dare you steal my supplies? If you had come to trade or even ask nicely, I might have shown some kindness and given you some. But to rob me right under my nose? It seems I must teach you a lesson!” Zheng Yifan seethed with anger. He drove his Silver Spear into the ground and glared fiercely at Liu Hao floating above.
The quantity of supplies was overwhelming; he could not take them all and could only carry away a portion. He chose the best parts—all food and resources from the office's Inner Warehouse.
Instant noodles were a lifesaver in this apocalypse; the seasoning inside contained salt, making it a delicious dish that drove them nearly mad with craving.
Zheng Yifan understood how attractive those tasty meals were to people in this harsh world. That attraction was almost lethal.
What made them even more desperate was the salt—an essential trace element for the body. In this apocalypse, there were no vegetables, only grains. There wasn't even enough salt for consumption; all the edible salt in stores had been completely used up over two years. Only high-ranking individuals kept a small stash for themselves.
Finally, what emerged were these extremely precious supplies—items that held the highest value in this apocalyptic world.
Medicines, vitamins, salt, and sugar... A large quantity of supplies was brought out by Liu Hao, drifting through the air before finally landing in Zheng Yifan's hands.
None of the supplies were left for Liu Hao; this Fellow was simply digging his own grave, leaving him no chance for survival.
Across from them, the Huang Brothers had already entered the top floor, watching helplessly as most of the supplies were taken away. What remained were merely the most ordinary items, lacking significant value.
There was still plenty of food, but other supplies were completely depleted, especially medicines and salt, which had been entirely cleared out.
"Hahaha! I'll gladly take all these! I won't be coming back to your poor Gathering Place for a whole month!" Liu Hao's voice boomed with madness.
After packing all the supplies, Zheng Yifan fixed his intense gaze on Liu Hao as he hovered in mid-air. Then he flew above him and slowly descended.
Five bright red handprints were clearly visible on Liu Hao's face. His body bore several torn marks, and on one of them, Zheng Yifan noticed a severed fingernail.
The bright red fingernail looked as if it had just been broken recently.
"Hey! What happened to you, Fellow?" Zheng Yifan glared at him with a fierce expression.
Zheng Yifan could overlook someone pulling teeth from a tiger's mouth, but he absolutely would not allow anyone to pull teeth from his own. Fighting was nearly impossible; this Fellow had witnessed his strength and would never dare to engage him in battle. However, bickering was inevitable.
"My stuff! Where are my supplies? If I lose these, Annie will kill me!" He clutched his head in panic. Looking at the empty rooftop, tears almost welled up in his eyes.
"Stop crying like a baby! What on earth happened? Your Superpower isn't weak! You’re familiar with how to use it; the entire Ancheng fears your presence. You have no restraints in front of me and show no fear. How could someone make you terrified to this extent?" Zheng Yifan glared at him fiercely, holding his Silver Spear and thrusting it forward with great force.
The strike was powerful and heavy. Though slow in speed, its weight felt like a thousand pounds as it aimed directly at Liu Hao, so strong that Liu Hao could barely withstand it.
His body was bound by overwhelming strength, completely unable to move. Zheng Yifan slowly began to pry open Liu Hao's clothing, a button spinning in mid-air before falling down.
"I... I!" Liu Hao lowered his head shyly, staring at his own feet. He truly didn't know what to say.
"What’s going on? You used to steal enough food to last you a year, and even if you were to take two girls with you, it would still be enough for a long time. Moreover, your reputation has been quite something lately! In such a short time, you've robbed several Gathering Places. And then, you took away more than half of my Leg of Lamb and two boxes of canned goods! I only realized it after you left. So, why on earth did you do this?"
Zheng Yifan was still resentful towards Liu Hao. When he left, he took and stole everything, and now it was coming back to haunt him. Just as he had occupied the Gathering Place and gained some resources, this brat had set his sights on him.
This was no longer stealing; it was outright robbery! And it was brazen robbery at that!
As the leader of a large Gathering Place with hundreds of thousands of Survivors and tens of thousands of warriors under his command, he almost fell into a trap. It was simply intolerable!
"Ah! This... you don’t understand! Ever since I got this Superpower, my appetite has increased exponentially. I need to eat enough for fifty people in one meal, and I have to eat six meals a day. You see, it's just unavoidable! Plus, I'm always craving food and can never control my mouth; I’m always picky about what I eat, so..."
"Hmph!"
Zheng Yifan let out a cold snort, his gaze turning icy.
Liu Hao's expression changed as he couldn't help but slap himself a few times. He had shared meals with Zheng Yifan before; among so many people eating roasted Leg of Lamb, he had eaten the least—he couldn't even compare himself to Zheng Yifan, who was a bottomless pit.
"Keep making excuses! Let’s see how many more lies you can come up with!" Zheng Yifan's tone grew colder.
"Haha! The weather is really nice today, sunny and bright!..."
Liu Hao's attempt to change the subject was cut short as Zheng Yifan's hands had already moved the Silver Spear to his throat, the tip almost piercing through his skin. He struggled to swallow as a trickle of blood ran down his neck. It was just a light scratch, but the pain filled him with fear.
"Kid, don’t think I’m an idiot. Also, I absolutely don’t mind if your blood splatters on me; go ahead and try it! Now tell me the truth—what’s really going on?" Zheng Yifan's expression darkened further, the Silver Spear radiating a chilling aura.
Though Zheng Yifan only intended to intimidate him, Liu Hao certainly didn’t see it that way. He felt as if winter had returned; death surrounded him like a shroud. The overwhelming power within him threatened to drive him mad, and an endless mist of blood seemed to fill his nostrils. The strong smell of blood made his stomach churn—this was the unique sensitivity of a Superpowered Individual, the accumulated killing intent from Zheng Yifan's countless murders.
"Big... Brother, please don't! I... I beg you, don't tremble. Our lives are in your hands."
The palpable killing intent shattered Liu Hao's defenses, prompting him to reveal his greatest secret.
It should be noted that Liu Hao had never been good at keeping secrets. When he met Zheng Yifan, he had already spilled almost everything like a bamboo tube pouring out beans, including things he shouldn't have mentioned. It was clear how important this secret was to him—so important that this nearly chatty fellow managed to keep it tightly guarded.
Zheng Yifan brought Liu Hao to the Telecom Building, where they met the Huang Brothers and Xu Jie. They discussed the future arrangements for the entire Telecom Building Gathering Place. All matters and accommodations needed their attention, while Zheng Yifan ultimately decided to bring along Ten Thousand Steps.
Although this fellow was useless in battle and had little impact, his creations using Superpower were incredibly useful, making Zheng Yifan reluctant to part with him and eager for more of his work.
There were still many issues regarding the Telecom Building, including stabilizing the entire Gathering Place and distributing food—both serious challenges.
Fortunately, Zheng Yifan had prepared in advance. The underground garage of the Telecom Building was vast and empty; all the cars had been moved out to construct walls. Now, this spacious underground parking lot would serve as Zheng Yifan's warehouse.
All individuals capable of manipulating wind and those who could control water were summoned to clean up the entire underground parking lot of the Telecom Building Gathering Place. They had only half an hour to complete their tasks. Zheng Yifan continuously checked for weak points while directing Ten Thousand Steps to set up Inscription formations.
He lacked the ability of a Formation Master to manage large-scale formations. However, he could inscribe formations on each load-bearing pillar and every door.
The entire underground parking lot would be completely sealed off, leaving only one passageway. Other areas would be fortified with reinforced concrete and a meter-thick steel plate to prevent anyone from entering.
With Superpowered Individuals handling transportation, Zheng Yifan preferred to expend extra effort rather than risk having supplies stolen. (To be continued...)
