The corridor was narrow, barely wide enough for two or three people to walk side by side. The walls were adorned with elaborate carvings and paintings that seemed to convey some indecipherable meaning, only revealing their suggestive nature upon closer inspection.
A thick layer of dust covered the ground, marked by the imprints of a ball that had been kicked into the air.
The ball was old and worn, patched in several places, its yellowed surface nearly frayed to the point of deflation.
Yet this very ball exuded an aura of death; two streaks of blood stained its surface, vibrant red, indicating that it had only recently been splattered.
The people inside the room were right behind Zheng Yifan, and there was no way they could die inexplicably. This fresh blood must have come from an outside Survivor.
It was even possible that there were Survivors still lurking within this building.
However, Zheng Yifan and the Huang Brothers had already explored most of the area and found nothing, which led them to decide to settle here.
A shadow seemed to lurk in the corners, waiting for its moment to strike. Now was the time for it to act.
Behind the ball came the sound of footsteps, crisp and echoing as they struck the ground with a series of "thuds." Then Zheng Yifan saw a Child's figure slowly emerge. Clad in tattered children's clothing reminiscent of a Post-Apocalyptic Barbie doll, the once delicate girl sported a large pink bow atop her head.
Her shoes made a delightful clattering sound as she walked.
Across from her was a children's theater room, which if Zheng Yifan remembered correctly, was themed after Princess Annie's Wonderland. It had once given him a warm feeling.
But not anymore. Zheng Yifan watched as the adorably dressed figure bounced into that room. A string of tinkling laughter echoed within, a sound filled with joy.
Of course, that was merely a remnant of memories influencing her. In an instant, Zheng Yifan realized that she was definitely not human but rather a Zombie. Her shriveled skin, dehydrated muscles, and gradually decaying face served as constant reminders that she was not a little girl but a Zombie.
Yet her fond memories kept her attached to her favorite place, like the themed room of Princess Annie's Wonderland.
Inside, the dolls and decorations truly resembled a fairyland, capable of enchanting any girl. Especially those dolls in the corner—there were dozens piled up, enough to captivate any girl for hours on end.
Zheng Yifan estimated that the prototype of this Zombie was once a cute girl who loved adorable dolls and perhaps enjoyed playing with a ball from time to time.
In short, it resembled life before the apocalypse.
However, the bloodstains scattered in the footprints beneath his feet indicated that she was merely a Zombie. And a Killing Zombie at that, without a hint of hesitation.
This was likely her lair, but he couldn't fathom what had happened to those corpses. Had she already consumed them all?
“Yohihihihi!” The girl's laughter echoed again in the room.
Two Yo-Yos ran out from inside, only to be pulled back by their strings.
“Have you thought about what game you want to play with me? How about hide and seek?” The childish voice made Zheng Yifan's heart skip a beat, an unsettling premonition creeping in.
This had to be a Mutated Zombie, and one that had undergone significant changes. Otherwise, Zheng Yifan would not have felt such an eerie sensation.
Sure enough, before Zheng Yifan could react, he sensed a figure suddenly appear behind him.
It was the Girl Zombie. She had silently materialized behind Zheng Yifan, her Yo-Yo still swinging in her hand.
“What is that?!” An Adamantium Shield appeared in his hand, pressing against the Zombie. His eyes burned with intensity as he stared at her, ready to strike at any moment.
This was definitely not some playful act. He had to eliminate this Fellow; otherwise, destruction and death awaited him.
“I got you!” A dry voice uttered those words, and Zheng Yifan felt a chill wash over him as if all his strength was being siphoned away.
The Vital Energy within him vanished, and it felt as though that force was trying to compress him into an even smaller space.
Using the reflection from his Adamantium Shield, Zheng Yifan saw the Girl Zombie pull out something resembling a Makeup Bag from her bosom. The immense suction from within it nearly pulled him inside.
What was even more terrifying were the things inside, which resembled tiny black pills the size of sesame seeds.
Inside the pills were images of humans, an entire pack filled with thousands, perhaps even tens of thousands.
Zheng Yifan had no idea how many there were; he only felt as if he were being compressed, about to be stuffed into that pocket.
"Die!" Just as Zheng Yifan was nearing the pocket, countless strands suddenly appeared behind him. The strands were as tough as iron yet remarkably flexible, piercing through the Girl Zombie behind him and binding her tightly.
"Leader, you really let your guard down this time," the voice of the Huang Brothers echoed from behind as the strands fiercely restrained the Girl Zombie.
"Hurry up and take him down! Otherwise, we're both in danger; this thing is too bizarre!" Zheng Yifan turned back, still shaken, looking at the Makeup Bag on the ground, the lingering chill of death seeming to hover around him.
"Got it, Leader," the Huang Brothers responded, their strands transforming into countless blades that shrank inward.
"I've got him!" The same dry voice rang out again, but to Zheng Yifan's ears, it felt like a nightmare once more.
The Girl Zombie, trapped by the Huang Brothers, suddenly shimmered with dazzling light. That Yo-Yo had transformed into something resembling a Chainsaw, cutting through the Huang Brothers' strands and heading straight for Zheng Yifan.
The Adamantium Shield took the brunt of the initial attack, but the Chainsaw-like force relentlessly tried to lift Zheng Yifan's arm.
He exerted all his strength but could barely resist.
The Huang Brothers and Zheng Yifan were caught in a pincer attack. The Girl Zombie fought against both of them as if it were a game.
For a moment, it was impossible to determine who would win. But Zheng Yifan knew he would ultimately lose; the energy of Zombies came from Zombie Crystal s. As long as those Zombie Crystal s existed, their power would continue to fight steadily without end.
Humans were different; the longer they fought, the weaker they became. Fatigue could completely wear a person down.
In this stalemate, there was no way to defeat the Girl Zombie. By the time he recovered, it would be his time to perish.
“Huang Brothers! Hold your ground!” Zheng Yifan shouted, pushing the Left-Handed Edman Alloy Shield forward. Using the force, his body quickly retreated.
The Adamantium Shield was propelled upward, slicing through the building as if it were tofu, shooting up and piercing through the top two floors before finally coming to a stop.
At that moment, Zheng Yifan had already readied his Silver Spear and charged forward.
In less than a second, the Huang Brothers were nearly doomed. As the Chainsaw-like Yo-Yo attacked them, they could only flee in disarray, disregarding their hair and appearance. The two split up, trying to divert the Girl Zombie's attention.
But it was futile; the Girl Zombie's Yo-Yo was devastatingly powerful, capable of taking them down in mere seconds.
After all, they were merely Second-Stage Espers, unable to gauge the level of the Mutated Zombie. Regardless of how it was assessed, it was still at least a Third-Level threat—just particularly unique and hard to classify.
“Die!” Zheng Yifan thrust his Silver Spear fiercely at the girl.
Before her, the tiny balls from her Makeup Bag diminished one by one. Yet the Girl Zombie's strength grew stronger; her Yo-Yo was almost matching the power of a missile. Wherever it struck, it left a massive hole.
Zheng Yifan relentlessly pursued the Girl Zombie with his Silver Spear. She was a menace; if she were allowed to grow stronger, she would undoubtedly become a disaster for humanity.
It dawned on Zheng Yifan as he attacked the Girl Zombie that those humans hadn’t disappeared; they had transformed into the balls inside her Makeup Bag.
Even those Zombies had been dealt with by her. She didn’t need Zombie minions; she only required these balls from her phone.
As the battle escalated, Zheng Yifan could no longer hold back. While shaking his Silver Spear with both hands, the Adamantium Shield returned from above, crashing down towards the Girl Zombie with fierce electric currents. The force carried the terrifying power of thunder that Zombies feared most—there was no way for her to evade it.
However, the reality of the situation left Zheng Yifan feeling overwhelmed.
The Girl Zombie surprisingly pulled out a handful of balls from her Makeup Bag and scattered them into the air. A wave of green energy formed a barrier around her, rendering the Adamantium Shield ineffective against her.
With every attack, a corpse would appear in front of Zheng Yifan's Adamantium Shield. Continuing to strike would only result in more corpses materializing mid-air, crowding the entire corridor.
One by one, the corpses were shattered by the Adamantium Shield, most of them turning into green liquid, which was collected by the Girl Zombie. A few pitiful Survivors remained; they had not perished in the apocalyptic war but had been captured by this Girl Zombie, completely sealing their consciousness, space, and time within her sphere.
Now, utilizing them, she finally gained some time. In less than a second, the Girl Zombie transformed completely; her cute dress was torn to shreds. The bow on her face morphed into a monstrous maw, and what was most terrifying was her body, which began to mutate, resembling a cylindrical shape.
Zheng Yifan had seen this type of Zombie on the battlefield; they could launch similar corpses to break through enemy lines.
But now, they were merely in a corridor with no defenses to speak of. However, Zheng Yifan clearly misunderstood the situation.
Her body had taken on this form, and the cannon holes were filled with tiny spheres the size of sesame seeds.
"Boom!" As a shot was fired, Zheng Yifan felt as if she were being beaten by hundreds of people at once. Shadows of those individuals gradually appeared around her; each one attacked her briefly before vanishing, leaving behind satisfied smiles.
Zheng Yifan understood that they had found release. The only one who remained trapped was Zheng Yifan herself. With that explosive-like attack echoing in the air, more and more Zombie corpses emerged, continuing to assault her. However, once they reached a certain position, they would immediately self-destruct without waiting to secure Zheng Yifan first.
Such attacks were undoubtedly disgusting and utterly unacceptable on the battlefield. Yet here she was, facing a Zombie that could collect corpses and use them for self-detonation.
This was unscientific!
"Boss! Just take out its main body; don't worry about anything else." In such an intense battle, how could Ten Thousand Steps—who was broad-minded and stout—be affected? Without hesitation, he stood behind Zheng Yifan, waving his flag and shouting encouragement. In his hands were over a dozen cups that had been on the table but were now inscribed with inscriptions and embedded with Zombie Crystal s.
These cups had become his weapons. He hurled them one after another with no precision whatsoever.
Seeing this situation unfold, Zheng Yifan quickly shouted, "Huang Brothers, get down!"
Her words clearly had an effect; upon hearing Zheng Yifan's warning, the Huang Brothers' first instinct was to drop to the ground as they felt dozens of grenades whiz past them.
Fortunately, they had already taken cover far enough away.
Zheng Yifan wasn’t so lucky; there was hardly any space for her to evade behind her. She could only brace herself for impact while the Girl Zombie remained oblivious to what was happening and protected herself completely with the spheres in her hands.
"Boom!" It sounded like an explosion, but there was no massive force or lethality produced.
In Zheng Yifan's eyes, it was hardly different from a Grenade. The powerful blast didn't disperse the force; instead, it was all directed at the Girl Zombie. One cup after another smashed against her, and Vital Energy was completely unleashed upon her.
The force surged like a tidal wave, attacking her in mere fractions of a second.
Of course, many cups never even touched her, falling to the ground as if it were natural. The only difference was that the weight of the cups seemed to become reliable in an instant; even when they hit the ground, they didn't shatter.
Finally, two cups in mid-air came hurtling towards Zheng Yifan.
These were two cups thrown in error, with the first one being at the forefront, so Zheng Yifan got to experience its impact first.
If he had to describe it in one word, he could only shout "Damn it!"
The moment the cup shattered, Zheng Yifan felt his body caught in a bizarre force, followed by a tearing power emerging from within him, as if he were about to be torn apart.
Fortunately, Zheng Yifan used his Adamantium Shield to block it, almost completely keeping the force at bay.
The Girl Zombie, however, was different; she had no defense and thus suffered the brunt of the attack.
