"Boom!" The thunder roared, consuming the lives of all Zombies within the vast expanse of the Thunder Prison, which spanned thousands of square meters. The First Level Zombies had no chance of survival here, as they were continuously pushed in from all sides and annihilated by the Thunder Prison.
Tian Ye stood behind Zheng Yifan, constantly firing Spherical Lightning to support the entire Thunder Prison.
This required a massive amount of Electricity. Fortunately, this formation did not require him to move; the energy loss was manageable. The center where the current flowed back and forth was the Zombie Crystal located at the necks of the Zombies, their most vulnerable spot and where they stored their energy. Each Zombie's moment of death released a small portion of Vital Energy, which was absorbed by the entire Thunder Prison.
Little by little, these tiny forces gathered into a tremendous power, creating an astonishing strength.
The Thunder Prison maintained its hold, seemingly releasing an endless supply of energy. Li Ning also launched his own attack—a powerful whirlwind that slowly swept through the gathering place of the Zombies. Within dozens of miles, there were countless Zombies; he had no worries about the Tornado missing its targets. He simply needed to guide it out and release it, gradually absorbing the power of nature to amplify himself.
The butterfly effect was merely the power generated by a butterfly flapping its wings; this was a genuine Tornado, starting from its origin and dropping down with hundreds of times more force than an ordinary Tornado.
The powerful winds swirled around the Zombies, but the disaster brought about clearly did not meet expectations. The higher-level Zombies had long since evaded his attack.
All the warriors took action; their targets were the Advanced Zombies among them. Of course, ordinary warriors and First-Level Espers still focused on these cannon fodder.
As long as each of them survived, they would already be profiting immensely. Millions of Zombies! Just think about how many Zombie Crystal s would be left behind and how much Military Merit they would gain.
What attracted them even more were the territories occupied by these Zombies. With millions of them, at least a town would be needed for them to crowd together.
But these Zombies would never do that; they must have vast territories.
The battle determined resources and living space. If the Zombies won, they could occupy the entire Hope Gathering Place and even clash with the Zombies from North of the River or conquer that territory. Of course, they would not miss out on feasting on human flesh.
Humans needed these territories to develop and survive.
They yearned for cities because there were many Post-Apocalypse buildings and supplies there. It had only been nearly two years since everything changed. Many food items had not yet reached their expiration dates. In this apocalypse, who cared about expiration dates? Even junk food from Post-Apocalypse workshops went unnoticed; even billionaires from that era would swallow it without hesitation for fear that someone else might snatch it away.
Firearm Espers always appeared on the battlefield as slaughterers, and today they truly reveled in killing. Every shot aimed at a Zombie required no target selection because shooting casually meant hitting a Zombie's body or head every time.
The probability of hitting a foot was less than one percent.
This was the endless Zombie. That terrifying power, the overwhelming sense of intimidation brought by their sheer numbers!
"Boss! Our people are struggling to hold on. Should we request support from Jiang Fangmian? With the Bloodbath Legion's Brothers joining us, we could wipe them out in one go," said Li Ning, drenched in sweat.
In just over ten minutes, his sweat had pooled around him. After all, he was only a Second-Stage Esper. The number of times he could use his abilities was limited; the Tornado could not be unleashed endlessly. It required a foundational energy to release.
This was the limitation of humanity. Humans possessed powerful Superpowers, but they needed to expend energy to use them.
On the other hand, Zombies had an almost endless supply of power, yet they lacked high intelligence. Every action had its own reason.
Regardless, Zheng Yifan could not afford to think too much about it anymore, as he could already see the Second-Level Zombies flaunting their might. Wu Yingzhou's avatar was rampaging through the horde of Zombies. Now, the Zombies were completely ignoring those two avatars; the Leader Zombies had long recognized his trick and chose to disregard it, compensating for their lack of quality with overwhelming numbers.
"Kill!" From the moment both sides officially clashed, it marked the beginning of a bloody battle. The previous skirmish had been child's play; it was mostly a team of Zombies that could be sacrificed. But now it was different; the Zombies had gone mad and were resorting to every means possible.
"Boom boom boom~" In the distance, two Mutated Zombies suddenly dropped to the ground like artillery pieces, and then strange cannon-like structures appeared on their backs.
One by one, Zombies crawled inside, followed by a continuous barrage. The ordinary First-Level Zombies fired like shells, exploding upon reaching their targets. The Second Tier and Third-Stage Zombies would be propelled forward by the blasts, landing and continuing to slaughter those nearby.
Zheng Yifan had already intercepted over a dozen Shells, as it was impossible to tell which shots came from genuine Low-Level Zombies and which were from Second and Third Tier Zombies.
"Kill!" Wu Yingzhou’s avatar had begun to float entirely above the battlefield. As long as there were Shells, he would send his avatar up to intercept them, either getting blown up or managing to stop those Advanced Zombies.
Only three or four Shells truly penetrated into Ruiguan. But this was already disastrous; against a Third-Stage Zombie, very few could stand alone in battle within Ruiguan. Shi Laonian was already straining himself to confront those Third-Stage Zombies.
He could now be considered a Third-Stage Esper. Although his body had yet to recover fully and his strength continued to grow, he could still manage to take down a few Third Stage and Second-Level Zombies with skill.
Fortunately, no Fourth-Stage Zombies were hurled into the fray. Perhaps the power required for a Fourth-Stage Zombie was greater, or maybe the Leader Zombie simply couldn't bear to see them perish on the battlefield.
Every time Zheng Yifan saw a Fourth-Stage Zombie, he felt a sense of dread.
"Chief, the Firearm Espers on the wall are barely holding up. Their weapons are severely damaged, and the supplies in the Weapon Cache can only last for about two more hours. The logistics team is working hard to transport more, but we are running low on ammunition. No one anticipated there would be so many Zombies," Li Ning reported from the side.
After all, Hope Gathering Place had never fought such a large-scale battle before; this was their first real confrontation against a million Zombies. The intensity of it all left them feeling quite unaccustomed.
However, there was no choice but to engage in this battle, as they were on the defensive and there was no room for negotiation with the Zombies.
"Then let's eliminate all the Advanced Zombies so that the Low-Level Zombies have no leaders. We can gradually clean them up afterward. All warriors who can leave should take blood bags to other locations to draw some of the Zombies away. We should also start using the Underground Passage, letting our warriors carry plenty of blood to attract the attention of the Low-Level Zombies," Zheng Yifan ordered, his expression resolute. He absolutely could not allow this battle to end in failure.
This was a fight with no room for defeat—only survival or death.
With his right hand gripping his gun, Zheng Yifan kept a watchful eye on the approaching Zombies. Among them, the formation was surprisingly orderly.
The Advanced Zombies always gathered together as if guarding something important. Zheng Yifan knew that this was the territory of the Leader Zombie. However, he really didn't want to engage with those creatures again.
The last encounter with a Leader Zombie had nearly left him incapacitated.
Now, he had to charge into a million Zombies' ranks to claim an enemy's head.
If only it were as easy as reaching into a pocket! Zheng Yifan could only confront them head-on, but that seemed nearly impossible.
"Li Ning, are there any Superpowered Individuals in the Gathering Place who can fly? Bring them to me," Zheng Yifan said, hoping to use aerial support for a surprise attack.
But clearly, he was being overly optimistic. The Superpowered Individuals had various abilities, and while many could fly, getting one directly over the Zombies' heads was nearly an impossible task. Unfortunately, helicopters were still out of commission; the laboratory at Gathering Place had yet to find a way to get them back in the air.
Now, all hope rests on the Superpowered Individual.
"Boss! Are you getting a bit stuck in your ways? Flying doesn't necessarily mean soaring through the sky; it can also mean going up!" Tian Ye squatted in a horse stance, continuously releasing Spherical Lightning. The electric glow around him had diminished significantly, but he couldn't help but speak up.
His words struck like a bolt from the blue, leaving Zheng Yifan stunned for quite some time.
There were plenty of parachutes in the Gathering Place. He had bought several for emergencies, and there were still many in his Storage Space. As for getting himself up there, there were countless ways to do so. Almost all the Superpowered Individuals around him could manage it.
Wu Yingzhou wore a mischievous grin as he looked at Zheng Yifan.
"I admit it; I'll let you kick the ball this time, but that was too harsh! If I come back, I won't let you off easily," Zheng Yifan said, holding his head. He then accepted a Glide parachute handed to him by a Logistics Warrior. They were far more thoughtful than he had anticipated. The original project at the Hope Gathering Place included Glide activities, so they naturally had Glide parachutes, and all of them were high-quality and easy to wear. Moreover, they had a high safety factor.
After all, it was Zheng Yifan's first time using this thing. Once he donned the full gear on the city wall, he transformed into a large bat-like figure. The triangular Glide parachute had a tail hanging from behind it; once opened, it resembled a giant manta ray. Behind him, Li Ning was already prepared to use his Superpower. Several Superpowered Individuals specializing in gravity and wind were also getting ready, while other wind-based Superpowered Individuals in the distance stood by to lend their support.
Even more infuriating was that Li Ning had somehow found a Superpowered Individual capable of using directional force.
With Li Ning's Rejection power combined with this new ally's abilities, they could easily lift Zheng Yifan high into the air.
After all, the first flight in this apocalyptic world was about to take place at the Hope Gathering Place, and Zheng Yifan would be the first person to soar through the skies without relying on Superpowers.
Of course, the main reason for this was that the current sky was still not human territory; there were still birds flying above. (To be continued)
