On the freshly painted wall, intricate carvings depict mysterious scenes of Superpower, representing a new era. The wall illustrates moments when the strong individuals from Gathering Place unleash their Superpower.
Each scene is crafted by the auxiliary Superpowered Individuals within Gathering Place, their likenesses etched as if they were real people. Upon closer inspection, one might even realize that these figures truly exist; they are merely images captured in time.
Among them, the most prominent figure is naturally Wu Yingzhou, known as Old Buddy. He has always valued his reputation since before the apocalypse, and now that he has a chance to leave a lasting legacy, he will not let it slip away. In fact, the main hall of the school has nearly turned into his personal showcase, with two manifestations of his power displaying various hues beside him. This is just in one corner; more walls, freshly painted white, are ready to be adorned with further artwork.
His portrait is meticulously crafted, with two manifestations and his own image appearing lifelike, observing those outside the painting and hearing their conversations, though unable to respond.
These are merely the foundational constructions. Far from the center of Gathering Place, nestled against the vast and winding Ushumar Mountains, the campus appears quaint yet grand. Currently lacking in popularity, only a couple of hundred people stand on the vast playground—these individuals are the stubbornly persistent Legion Commanders from the Two Major Legions. Each legion has sent fifty warriors, all of whom wear expressions of reluctance. Once inside the school, they find that not only do they earn no Military Merit, but they are also prohibited from using any during their time at school. The accumulation method has turned into a frustrating academic credit system. It truly feels like a scam—its value diminished by a hundredfold compared to Military Merit. Yet there’s no choice; the entire legion has chosen these unfortunate souls.
Each person here is a king among soldiers, the strongest Superpowered Individuals.
Most have already brushed against the edge of Second Tier, poised to become Second-Stage Espers at any moment.
Advancing in rank within the military for a Superpowered Individual is no easy feat, as they must balance their physical strength—not solely focusing on enhancing their Superpower like ordinary Superpowered Individuals.
Although they are elite within their ranks, it does not mean their Superpower is the strongest. In fact, those with relatively weaker powers often remain behind to fulfill defensive roles at critical checkpoints, leaving them no time to join this gathering.
“Wow! Wu Gui, so many people want to join your school, and it’s just us two Old Ghosts. Can we teach them all?” slurred Shi Laonian, swaying unsteadily as he stood there, hardly resembling a teacher.
Beside him, Wu Yingzhou felt equally awkward. There was no way around it; although the school had been established, all faculty members had yet to be organized. Recruitment was still ongoing within Gathering Place, but the school needed to be set up first. They were about to embark on two months of physical training—this period would focus solely on familiarizing themselves with combat techniques and using Cold Weapons. It was about strengthening their bodies and training their coordination.
The students before them were indeed exceptional in this regard; however, compared to those who had trained since childhood as martial artists, there remained a noticeable gap. Not to mention someone like Wu Yingzhou, a master-level figure—despite being a Superpowered Individual with formidable learning abilities, he was still a step ahead in his familiar domain.
What should have been an ordinary opening ceremony felt different now due to Shi Laonian’s presence. No matter how eloquently Wu Yingzhou spoke from the podium, one hiccup from him sent ripples of suppressed laughter through the crowd below.
“Alright! The Hope Gathering Place Superpower School is officially open! New students should find their classrooms according to the list and familiarize themselves with their dormitories. You have until 6 AM tomorrow for training; this two-month physical training will be rigorous—hope you can survive it,” said Shi Laonian, cutting off any chance for further words from Wu Yingzhou. He then turned and walked away, leaving all students momentarily stunned before they followed suit.
Suddenly, a cool breeze swept through as Wu Yingzhou stood on stage, feeling a sense of defeat wash over him.
That old rascal, Shi Laonian, had truly outdone himself. Without giving him a chance to speak further, he had already sent the students scattering. Those soldiers couldn’t care less about Wu Yingzhou; they were eager for rest after receiving word from their commander that entering the Superpower School would entail heavy academic burdens. Everyone needed to be prepared for potential expulsion back to their respective legions.
At that point, they would surely face embarrassment beyond measure.
Just then, Zheng Yifan and Li Ning arrived at the school gate—a grand entrance far more impressive than that of any top university in reality’s world of Huaguo. The four characters “Superpower Academy” were inscribed above.
The specific name wasn’t written out because the Future Hope Gathering Place undoubtedly encompassed more than just this one school; however, for now, it was all there was.
As they entered the campus, the warriors on the playground had already let their guard down, lazily making their way toward the dormitory building. The sky was overcast, heavy with clouds that seemed ready to unleash a storm at any moment. A sudden gust of wind stirred a figure on the podium, adding an extra layer of desolation to the scene.
One of them had long since fled; Shi Laonian certainly didn't want to be out in this wind.
"Leader..." From a distance, Wu Yingzhou spotted Zheng Yifan's arrival and awkwardly came forward to greet him.
In the Post-Apocalypse, getting into his martial arts school required connections and favors, but now? His own school was no longer under his control. There were only two leaders in charge, and they were just beginning basic physical training. It was akin to military training before college in the Post-Apocalypse.
But now? Chief Instructor Shi Laonian had already run off, leaving him and the Gathering Place leader staring at each other in disbelief. It had truly become a joke.
Of course, this joke continued to circulate, lingering around the school.
Zheng Yifan's arrival was expected; the opening of the first school in the Gathering Place signified the continuation of civilization. It felt rushed, almost like children playing house, but everyone knew that in the apocalypse, practicality took precedence over superficial appearances. The purpose of establishing a school was to cultivate Superpowered Individuals; there was no room for pretense anymore.
Zheng Yifan had come simply to take a look; as long as there weren't any major issues, everything would be fine.
Now wasn't the time for small talk with Wu Yingzhou. The dark clouds loomed overhead as thunder rumbled and lightning streaked across the sky, which had turned darker than night. A few purple flashes lingered above, refusing to fade away.
"It's so stuffy!" Wu Yingzhou remarked as he walked alongside Zheng Yifan into the teaching building.
Suddenly, both were taken aback; it wasn't just a feeling of heaviness in the air but true stifling heat, as if they had stepped into a steamer. The lightning seemed to continuously release energy before vanishing. Normally, the power of lightning should dissipate quickly, but due to Vital Energy, it lingered without fading away.
"Ah!" Suddenly, a roar erupted from within the Gathering Place, its thunderous sound echoing for kilometers around.
It was a voice filled with rage.
"It's Tian Ye!" Li Ning exclaimed in surprise behind Zheng Yifan.
Zheng Yifan was also startled; Tian Ye had originally joined him alongside Wu Yingzhou. Although he had become a Second-Stage Esper, his control over lightning was still weak and needed time to accumulate strength. It was uncertain when he would truly become powerful.
He could be considered the only Fellow in Guard Camp who lacked any personal understanding of his abilities; his power relied entirely on external forces.
Over time, Zheng Yifan had almost forgotten about him, but now Tian Ye roared again. This was due to Zheng Yifan witnessing his first rainstorm of such magnitude in the Apocalyptic World. The downpour was beyond description—almost apocalyptic—with torrents cascading down and bringing immense Vital Energy. The clouds hung low and oppressive in the sky.
This was an unusual rain; it fell while winter had not yet fully passed and spring was on the horizon. Such heavy rain in the Post-Apocalypse could only be hoped for during summer, yet here it was while temperatures still hovered below freezing. The ground temperature rapidly equalized as rain absorbed the cold air around it, attempting to freeze into ice blocks and snowflakes while absorbing heat to transform into flowing water.
Steam rose from the ground in wisps; it wasn't because temperatures were high but rather due to significant temperature differences creating air currents.
The gusts of wind had barely begun to rise before they were pressed down by the heavy rain.
Within the Hope Gathering Place, the pressure was hardly significant; flood prevention measures were almost unnecessary. However, the Winter Wheat was likely to suffer greatly. Such heavy rain would not bring revival to the crops but rather disaster.
The phrase "flowing rivers turning into seas" truly came to life. The river surged with a mighty force, its waves sweeping across hundreds of thousands of square kilometers.
This was a calamity for humanity, as it signified the arrival of spring.
Yet, it was also a feast—a feast for the Zombies—who seemed to have caught a whiff of something enticing. They emerged from their hiding places, swaying their bodies as they left the city and the refuge they had occupied all winter.
The powerful Zombies gathered a large group of their kin, leading them in search of prey.
Meanwhile, within the Hope Gathering Place, a storm was brewing. All Superpowered Individuals utilizing electricity began to feel their Superpowers rapidly surging within them, as if something in the ground was catalyzing their abilities.
But the most noticeable change occurred in the fields. Tian had whimsically decided to check out the opening ceremony at Superpower School. In his memory, opening ceremonies were grand and magnificent. However, as he approached the school, climbing the steep 60-degree slope that stretched over two hundred meters, he felt as though a pair of eyes were watching him.
