At the entrance of Han Sui City Gathering Place stood a massive city gate, surrounded by piles of old cars and broken stones that formed a makeshift wall, held together by a small amount of cement. The wall was marred with splashes of blood, remnants from the siege by Zombies, with most of it being human blood; the Zombies had long since turned to sludge, nourishing the earth.
A fierce battle raged upon the battered walls. Two factions clashed violently; one group wore Post-Apocalypse military uniforms, numerous and organized in their movements. Their weapons were of high quality, clearly forged thanks to the Formation Master who enabled industrial machinery to operate at a basic level.
In contrast, the Ice King Mercenary Corps was at a significant disadvantage, wielding weapons that were in disrepair.
However, they had an overwhelming number of Superpowered Individuals among them, as if they had sprung up from nowhere.
These were all newly activated Superpowered Individuals. Despite this advantage, the members of the first division still found themselves outmatched. From the very beginning of the fight, it was clear they were destined to be abandoned.
One Superpowered Individual transformed his hands into iron blocks and relentlessly smashed them down on the soldiers from the first division. His superhuman strength and speed quickly shattered their formation.
“Chizoe! You little brat, I was the one who rescued you from the Gathering Place! I can’t believe you’ve turned against me so quickly! You dare to come and attack your Uncle Li?” A middle-aged man from the first division glared fiercely at the Superpowered Individual.
“Uncle Li, people act for their own benefit; there’s no longer a need for the first division to exist. You should go to hell and keep Sister Qing company!” The Superpowered Individual flashed forward into the crowd, his hands flying. In an instant, dozens were reduced to pulp, while Uncle Li coughed up blood in disbelief as he stared at this son of his old friend who had once been under his care.
Now, this brat he had looked after was striking back against him. How much of that blood on his hands belonged to those who had cared for him?
“You…” Uncle Li’s words would never escape his lips. Blood choked in his throat and spewed forth along with bits of his insides.
“Kill!” The cries for murder echoed as if everyone had gone mad. Outside the city walls, Zheng Yifan led all members of Hope Mall in a state of high alert, watching the battle within the Gathering Place unfold. It was clearly one-sided—not at all like they had anticipated with the first division slaughtering the Ice King Mercenary Corps.
Instead, it was the Ice King Mercenary Corps that was massacring the soldiers of the first division. Suddenly, many Superpowered Individuals appeared among them. It had become a battle between Superpowered Individuals and ordinary people.
“Boss! This is bad! Where did the Ice King Mercenary Corps find so many Superpowered Individuals?” Li Ning frowned deeply.
“All those Superpowered Individuals are newly activated; they haven’t even familiarized themselves with their powers before jumping into battle. I don’t know how they evolved these Superpowered Individuals, but it must come at a great cost,” Zheng Yifan observed carefully as one after another, Superpowered Individuals slaughtered those who had once protected them and fought alongside them.
The Ice King Mercenary Corps had originally emerged from Han Sui City Gathering Place; both they and the first division were selected from the same group of warriors.
However, back then, the Ice King Mercenary Corps had been a refuge for those seeking freedom; now they were clearly blinded by power.
"Listen up, everyone outside! The Ice King Mercenary Corps has officially taken control of the Han Sui City Gathering Place. No one is allowed to enter the Gathering Place. Anyone who dares to breach this order will be killed without mercy." Some within the Ice King Mercenary Corps still held onto their rationality, noticing the thousands gathered outside the Gathering Place. They understood that other factions were eyeing the resources and population of Han Sui City Gathering Place.
Their indifference did not mean others would be indifferent. What the Gathering Place lacked most was population; only with enough people could they continue to survive in this protracted war. Otherwise, for every person lost, they would be one step closer to surrender.
"We are from Hope Mall. Our sole purpose in coming to Han Sui City Gathering Place is to reclaim our property. Whether you are from the Ice King Mercenary Corps, the First Division, or any other faction, anyone who occupies our property is our enemy. All actions that trample on life are a disregard for human existence, and we will not allow such things to happen."
"You have five minutes to return our supplies; otherwise, you will face war," Zheng Yifan shouted loudly from the front.
He had never intended to resolve this peacefully, but it was necessary to make a statement first; it would make taking over the Gathering Place much easier later on.
His loud declaration reassured the Survivors following him from Han Sui City Gathering Place. They had long feared that the leaders of the Gathering Place would completely disregard the lives of ordinary people, reducing them to a status even lower than livestock.
Now, hope had arrived. Hope Mall brought them a glimmer of hope in this apocalyptic world.
"Absolutely not! If you dare offend the Ice King Mercenary Corps, what awaits you is death! Only death!" shouted a man on the city wall.
It was as if he had lost all reason.
"Everyone equip your Crossbows; we are officially commencing the attack." With Zheng Yifan's command, all the Tricycles opened their tarpaulin covers, revealing numerous Plastic Boxes inside. Each box contained a Crossbow—high-quality custom-made weapons from the real world, powerful and made of exceptional materials.
These were definitely not something ordinary factories could produce. Zheng Yifan had spent a considerable amount of money for these.
Today, the power of these weapons would be unleashed. Almost everyone had undergone basic training; while Perfect Accuracy might be an exaggeration, with enemies lining the city walls, there was no difficulty in hitting targets. Moreover, the Compound Bow only required vertical adjustments—no need for lateral aiming—making it even more precise; they could simply draw and shoot.
As for crossbow bolts, they were not optimal at this range; they would first use Compound Bows.
With plenty of weapons available, switching to stronger crossbows once they got closer would be more suitable.
Thousands of arrows flew through the air simultaneously, creating a terrifying rain of arrows that fell upon the crowd. Except for Superpowered Individuals, everyone else was vulnerable to this onslaught. This was the pinnacle of Cold Weapons.
Of course, this was exactly what Zheng Yifan wanted because this wave of arrows represented hundreds of thousands in value. In previous times, he could never afford such an expensive game.
However, now, after the rain of arrows had poured down, only a dozen or so Superpowered Individuals were still struggling to hold on.
But they wouldn't last much longer.
Because on the city wall, two figures suddenly appeared, both completely formed from white mist.
Wu Yingzhou's manifestation, which had previously gone unnoticed, finally revealed its terrifying power. The figures on the city wall were all offense with no defense, striking deadly blows as if sweeping away leaves in an autumn breeze, clearing away all Superpowered Individuals on the wall.
Even with their own Superpowers, they couldn't defend against it because these manifestations were too overwhelming. Their speed was as fast as lightning, almost comparable to Second-Level Zombies, and their strikes were brutally heavy. Each move resembled the stance of Bajiquan, with Vital Energy flowing to concentrate all their strength. The entire figure would fade slightly, but the point of attack would turn golden.
This slight difference resulted in an increase in lethality by dozens of times.
A casual punch could shatter a person into pieces.
Wu Yingzhou stood among the crowd with a smile, completely motionless.
His mind was entirely focused on those two manifestations. He could multitask effectively, but handling three tasks at once was still a bit challenging.
However, that didn't matter; he was practically invincible in both sea and land at this moment, an invisible and intangible attacker.
Those manifestations wouldn't dissipate even when attacked; they could only strike others while their opponents had to rush over to attack his true form.
Unfortunately for them, Wu Yingzhou never gave them that opportunity. He was right behind Zheng Yifan and remained unharmed.
In a moment of excitement, he even tried every move of Bajiquan, resulting in all the Superpowered Individuals on the wall disappearing without a trace.
One was a Second-Stage Esper with advanced Superpowers, while those individuals were clearly First-Level Espers whose activated Superpowers were far from satisfactory.
There was no need to continue the battle; all Superpowered Individuals had been eliminated, and all warriors were either dead or severely injured. Even those who had sustained minor injuries were unwilling to rise; they were mad but not foolish. Almost everyone across from them had bows and arrows, leaving no room for resistance.
"Bind all captives and send them to the Deathmatch Camp! Those who achieve merit can regain their status as Common Survivors, but all merits will be halved," Zheng Yifan immediately ordered them to be sent to the Deathmatch Camp.
The members of the Daredevil Squad, previously established by Zheng Yifan, had all received the status of ordinary residents. Most chose to remain in the military as regular soldiers, while a few became explorers.
They had been caught up in the events at Cat Ear Cliff.
Now, Zheng Yifan had reestablished the Deathmatch Camp, though it was merely a name change. It was essentially the same setup, meant to distinguish those who had become official members of the fighting force.
"Go! Open the city gates and retrieve our belongings! Free those who have been enslaved and oppressed, the Survivors! We are human; our only enemy is the Zombie, not our own kind!" Zheng Yifan shouted from the front, seemingly trying to vent his frustrations.
He had realized that the Ice King Mercenary Corps members were anything but normal. All captured individuals were from the First Division, while none of the Ice King Mercenary Corps members had survived. Even those who had their limbs severed still tried to bite.
Especially concerning were the deceased Superpowered Individuals; they exuded a power akin to that of Zombies. Even in death, their muscles twitched as if they still sought to attack others. Some of their fat and muscle had even transformed into a green liquid.
This was a sign that only appeared when Zombies died!
With confusion swirling in his mind, Zheng Yifan kicked open the city gates and strode inside.
