In a moment of desperation, Zheng Yifan realized that even if the Mutated Zombie behind him fought with all its might, it would still struggle to take him down. Its massive size and swift speed sent chills down his spine. If only the Second-Level Zombie had attacked him alongside this one, it could have easily finished him off. 0

But back then, the Second-Level Zombie had merely lain there like an idiot, showing no intention of attacking him. Instead, it was the other Second-Level Zombies that seemed to fight desperately to block his escape. 0

Now, he finally understood the ferocity of this Zombie, but there was no chance left to evade. 0

With a tearing sound as if muscles were being ripped apart, Zheng Yifan felt a chill run down his back. 0

A loud crash followed, and he stumbled forward, his body flying through the air. 0

At that moment, two chunks of flesh were torn from his back, leaving a black claw mark that seeped into his skin like water entering boiling oil. Bubbles formed almost instantly, pushing all the black toxins into them before gradually falling away. 0

However, Zheng Yifan's condition worsened. This was merely the body's automatic detoxification process; his genetic evolution had reached a point where it could expel toxins quickly to prevent poisoning. Yet, this still consumed a significant amount of energy. 0

Now, with severe injuries and nearly all the muscles in his back shredded, he found himself fortunate that the Zombie did not continue its assault, allowing him to escape. This reprieve was due to a silver flash striking the back of the Zombie's neck. 0

That spot was originally where the Zombie Crystal was stored. No matter how much it evolved, it remained a weakness for any Zombie. 0

Of course, only soft-bodied Zombies resembling Octopuses could protect the Zombie Crystal in their hearts during their lower evolutionary stages. This was because it was absorbed by their soft tissues during their free evolution process; nothing too hard could exist on their exterior. 0

The Zombie behind him clearly did not fit this description; it still retained basic Zombie characteristics, such as the Zombie Crystal at its nape. However, it had been completely concealed now, making it undetectable. 0

But in that instant, when the Adamantium Shield struck where the Zombie Crystal should be stored at the back of its neck, the force failed to inflict any real damage on the Zombie. Nevertheless, that brief impact dulled its senses and hindered its strength. 0

In that moment of distraction, Zheng Yifan seized his chance to escape. He rolled toward the center of the stone chamber. 0

The Mutated Plants in the center were something he absolutely could not destroy. He had already seen that one plant bore countless Essence Fruits hanging from what resembled grapevines at the top of the chamber. 0

Of course, while there weren't many in number, he simply lacked the energy to count them all. 0

Because he was by his side, he could feel the presence of the Silver Spear. Its power was unparalleled. 0

In a moment of instinct, Zheng Yifan rolled forward an extra turn as he tumbled, then pressed his right hand against the ground. 0

The Silver Spear surged up from the earth as if it were eager to break free, landing perfectly in Zheng Yifan's grasp. 0

In mid-air, he turned and thrust it out. It felt like piercing through skin, and then he saw the grotesque face of the Zombie before him. 0

A pair of claws dripped with green liquid, slowly falling like elongated cat claws, sharp beyond measure. They protruded from the muscles, twice their usual length. In contrast, the resilience of the muscles rapidly diminished, giving a sense of atrophy. 0

But Zheng Yifan had no time to dwell on that; he could only attack and eliminate the Mutated Zombie in front of him. 0

In that instant, Zheng Yifan recalled the bullet that had injured him, but he quickly dismissed it. That shot was a matter of life and death; it might have worked in that special environment, but now even the Zombie's inertia could kill him. It felt like stepping into a dead end with no way out. 0

He had no choice but to fight back. 0

It was all or nothing! It was either life or death! 0

Zheng Yifan had made up his mind; life was fraught with danger. If he fought, there was a chance he could survive; if he didn’t fight, death was certain. 0

So why not fight with all his might? 0

After giving up on resisting the claws, Zheng Yifan thrust his spear with all his strength, aiming directly for the Zombie's neck—the location where most Zombies' Zombie Crystal s resided. It was a vulnerable spot. As for the head, that was not something to joke about; if its head exploded, the remaining body would still be a threat. This wasn't just some low-level creature that would only twitch; who knew what kind of tricks it might pull? 0

With determination in his heart, he thrust with both hands. There was no resistance; in an instant, the claws pierced through Zheng Yifan's abdomen and right chest. If those hands tore open, there would be no doubt he would die. 0

At that moment, Zheng Yifan's spear reached its target. He used every ounce of strength he had—not in a reckless manner that would lead to certain death because that would leave him with no chance of survival. If his life force dropped to its lowest point and then faced a Zombie's attack, becoming one himself would be far too easy. 0

Now, using pure strength along with the power contained within Break the Thirty-Six Calamities with Guns, the spear truly penetrated deeply. The Zombie indeed had weaknesses; perhaps those Advanced Zombies could almost nullify their vulnerabilities, but this particular Zombie facing him definitely lacked such ability. That kind of monster could kill him in an instant. 0

In an instant, the spear struck something hard, and then a light appeared behind the Zombie. 0

With a rumble, it felt as if an earthquake had struck; roots from nearby plants surged forth and plunged into the Mutated Zombie’s body. It was as if they were drinking soda, rapidly absorbing nearly all its bodily fluids until only a green lump remained. 0

Meanwhile, the claws on Zheng Yifan's body transformed into a green liquid, absorbed by the Mutated Plants. The virus posed no threat to the plants as it was absorbed entirely, leaving behind only a small amount of toxins. 0

It felt as if his body had truly been severed in two. Blood flowed slowly from four gaping wounds, each as thick as a fist. Fortunately, his Heart remained unharmed. As for his Lungs, intestines, and other internal organs... 0

Unfortunately, they were all severely damaged. If an ordinary human suffered such grave injuries, death would be inevitable. 0

Even though Zheng Yifan possessed formidable combat strength, he was merely hanging on by a thread. 0

Surviving such devastating injuries was largely thanks to the Super Soldier Serum. He could feel its effects now. Among all the powers he inherited, the Super Soldier Serum was the most reliable, providing him with the fundamental strength necessary for survival—forget about Shooting Skills or any other abilities; sheer toughness was the key to staying alive. 0

Just like now, when his body was nearly incapacitated. His bodily functions had almost completely ceased; only the Super Soldier Gene sustained his life force, slowly repairing his internal injuries. His Stomach was reduced to the size of a thumb, nearly rendered useless, and his body rapidly shrank again after just recovering. 0

But that wasn't the worst part. The most troubling issue was that he could not intake energy at all. His body could only break down stored energy to restore its functions. 0

The first priority for recovery was his Lungs. Although he had a robust physique, he still needed them for gas exchange and gradually restoring other vital organs. 0

Of course, the first to stop functioning were the severed blood vessels, which automatically ceased blood supply, causing parts of his body to begin necrosis. However, before necrosis set in, the nutrients within were completely extracted to remedy other areas. 0

His limbs and buttocks were where nutrient absorption was most severe; he felt as if his body had shrunk significantly. 0

Yet internally, his organs began to recover slowly. 0

He felt fortunate about this. Without internal organs, there would be no possibility of energy intake; everything would become a joke. 0

Gradually, organ repair commenced: Heart, Liver, Spleen, Kidney—each began to recover in turn, with the Stomach being last due to its extensive damage and difficulty in healing. 0

Time ticked away second by second; fortunately, there were no Zombies nearby for now. 0

However... 0

“Chirp!” A sound resembling that of a mouse sent chills down Zheng Yifan's spine. Could it be a mouse from the Post-Apocalypse? 0

But soon he realized that what he faced was far more terrifying than a mere mouse. He watched as a Mutated Zombie began to swell from the remnants of liquid it had been drained of, slowly expanding until it grew into a one-meter-sized creature. 0

Suddenly, this creature sprouted limbs and a head, but the limbs were short, resembling a severely deformed child like Zheng Yifan. However, its head was abnormally large. 0

If there were any way to describe it, it would be akin to something seen in a long-ago science fiction movie, but far more terrifying, for it was a Zombie—a flesh-eating Zombie. No matter how deformed it appeared, it could not hide its insatiable hunger for blood. Its gaze upon Zheng Yifan was as if it were eyeing its next meal. 0

"Chirp!" A series of frenzied Howls erupted, reminiscent of a child who had lost their toy. Then those eyes slowly opened, revealing blood-red pupils filled with a sense of destruction. 0

Zheng Yifan could see the anger and bloodlust within. This creature's intelligence was certainly not that of an Ordinary Zombie; it possessed a certain level of awareness. 0

Moreover, its emergence was bizarre—it crawled out from the corpse of a Mutated Zombie. This meant it had once been inside the Mutated Zombie, never appearing independently, much like a parasite living off another of its kind. 0

At that moment, Zheng Yifan felt as though this Zombie was akin to a pilot controlling a mecha from science fiction. 0

Unfortunately, it was controlling a destructive Zombie, and it was no benevolent pilot but rather a crazed one. 0

As Zheng Yifan locked eyes with it, he felt as if a heavy hammer had struck his head. He felt dizzy. The Zombie seemed to cautiously take a step forward but halted when it noticed Zheng Yifan was not dazed, continuing to stare him down. 0

The faint mental waves emanating from the Zombie felt familiar to Zheng Yifan; they were reminiscent of the strange energy he had encountered while recovering his strength using rocks. 0

Now, Zheng Yifan was certain that this energy was radiating from the Zombie before him—it seemed almost like a Superpower. In an instant, he recalled that mysterious psychic Superpower. 0

This Zombie appeared to be a Superpowered Individual among Zombies now attacking Zheng Yifan. 0

Unfortunately, his body was completely immobilized; even moving a finger seemed nearly impossible. 0

He could only watch as the Zombie relentlessly assaulted him with its mental power. Although the intensity of the attack couldn't harm him physically, it felt akin to nails scraping against a chalkboard—while not causing significant injury, it was still tormenting, comparable to certain forms of torture. Yet Zheng Yifan could only endure silently. 0

The Zombie exhibited remarkable patience; after half an hour of probing and trying various methods, it still dared not approach Zheng Yifan closely, acting timidly as if designed specifically for him. 0

After enduring half an hour of torment, the Zombie finally seemed exhausted and banged its head against the ground. Then it began rummaging around beside itself. Before long, its hand—barely larger than a chicken's claw—grasped a gem about the size of a thumb. The gem resembled Zombie Crystal but was entirely different; if the Zombie was formed from biological condensation, this gem appeared like pure diamond—its energy incredibly pure and giving Zheng Yifan an oddly appetizing feeling. 0

The Zombie carefully held the gem in its hands and cautiously brought it closer to its head. It became evident that energy from the gem was being channeled into the Zombie's skull. 0

Treasure-like, the Zombie hesitated to use much of it; it merely brushed against its head before putting the gem away. A rare expression appeared on its face—something akin to sorrow or regret. 0

He looked at Zheng Yifan with increasing hatred, glaring fiercely as he found a shard of claw-like material amidst the carnage of the Mutated Zombie. 0

It was a remnant that could not be absorbed by the Mutated Plants, essentially just refuse. 0

Now, the Zombie picked up this piece of refuse and cautiously approached Zheng Yifan, taking two steps forward and inevitably retreating one step. Occasionally, it would pick up a stone and throw it at Zheng Yifan. 0

This was nothing short of an insult, but Zheng Yifan had no choice but to endure it. His body was in no condition to recover, and he felt a strange urge to obtain that shard. His body even began to decompose other unnecessary parts, such as the already healed intestines, to strengthen his right hand. 0

Unfortunately, his cells were somewhat overwhelmed and could only decompose a tiny bit of the intestines, restoring just a hint of control to his right index finger before ceasing any further action. 0

Zheng Yifan couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated. While it was good that his body was attempting to recover autonomously, it was currently just causing chaos. The energy within him was far too low to complete the recovery process; he couldn't even summon his Storage Space because that required energy as well. His cells were so impatient that they left him with no strength at all, and he had no idea when he would naturally regain even a fraction of that power. 0

Of course, even if he could open it, it would be useless since his Stomach had not yet recovered and he was unable to eat. 0

At this moment, the Zombie had already approached him. Zheng Yifan connected the dots and recalled the series of events leading up to encountering the Zombie. A realization dawned on him. 0

This Zombie was likely not an ordinary one; it might be a special breed among Zombies. 0

The Zombie Lord. To be continued. 0
