After only a few steps, he casually entered a bar, only to realize it was the place of the Ice King Mercenary Corps. What a stroke of bad luck! Li Ning's information didn't mention who owned each shop; after all, many stores sold unsavory items, often obtained through Killing's smuggling.
Why would anyone reveal their background? Just like Zheng Yifan never disclosed where the goods in his possession came from. Everyone had secrets they preferred to keep hidden.
"Uncle, could you please take me home? I really can't move anymore, or maybe you could bring me some chicken butts to help me regain my strength," the Child said, his eyes half-closed and his breath weak.
Zheng Yifan couldn't help but be amused by the Child's request, feeling both helpless and entertained as he waved at Li Ning.
"Friend, I don't have any chicken butts here. You might as well eat a couple of Energy Bars to recover your strength," Li Ning said as he stuffed one of his Energy Bars into the Child's mouth.
"Crunch, crunch." Like a mouse, the Child quickly chewed through two Energy Bars, stuffing his cheeks full.
However, he ate so fast that within just a few seconds, the Energy Bars were gone, and he continued to look at Zheng Yifan with those pitiful eyes.
His complexion improved significantly; he seemed to recover incredibly quickly, as if the Energy Bars had instantly transformed into energy within him.
"Li Ning, give him everything edible you have on you," Zheng Yifan said. He wasn't in the habit of carrying food; all supplies were brought by Li Ning.
Li Ning opened his bag and found quite a collection of random snacks. From Energy Bars to various treats, he pulled out an assortment of chicken legs, necks, and feet snacks from his large backpack.
These items were forced upon him by Sun Jiang before leaving. If Zheng Yifan was fine on his own, he still had to prepare snacks for Han Rui and Su Qin when they were together.
With Sun Jiang not around, all the usual tasks were entrusted to Li Ning, who had to cover every detail meticulously.
But the Child in Zheng Yifan's arms was like the biggest bottomless pit; anything edible that reached his mouth vanished at lightning speed. Not even bones remained visible; everything was chewed up and swallowed whole.
After he finished eating everything, he still looked at Zheng Yifan with those innocent eyes.
"Kid, stop playing the pity card. Where's your home? Either we take you back, or you can find your own way," Zheng Yifan said, giving the child a firm pat on the backside before gently tossing him onto the ground.
Sure enough, he had fully recovered and was grinning widely as he followed Zheng Yifan.
"I'm still hungry! Do you have any food left? I can be your guide or help you with anything, as long as I get enough to eat," the child cunningly tried to win over the few people around Zheng Yifan.
Since these people had come out of Devil's Bar, it was easy to imagine what kind of individuals were inside; they were powerful and naturally had food. As for his insistence on getting enough to eat, he felt a bit embarrassed about it.
"Stop dreaming. I'm not going to feed you. If I'm not mistaken, your superpower must be related to eating; otherwise, there's no way you could have eaten so much without your stomach bulging," Zheng Yifan said as he playfully ruffled the child's hair.
"Ah, the big fish has swum away. I thought I could finally fill my belly, but I got exposed instead," the child said helplessly, shaking his head. "You should just take me home; it's not far from here. You can skip the food offer, but resting for a bit is fine. Those are members of the Ice King Mercenary Corps; they're really fierce. If they catch me, it won't end well."
The adult-like tone of the child left Zheng Yifan both amused and exasperated. Undoubtedly, children in this post-apocalyptic world grew up fast; they already understood good and evil and knew how to survive.
If it weren't for his stubbornness, he wouldn't have revealed his long-accumulated superpower in the bar.
"Alright, we'll go to your house for a bit!" Since Zheng Yifan had nothing else to do, it was a good opportunity to see if he could gather any clues from this local kid's home.
The child's name was Guo Xing. His father was an ordinary member of a mercenary group who gave all his leftover food to him but still couldn't satisfy this insatiable fellow.
In the end, Guo Xing could only wander around the Gathering Place in search of food.
The various bars were places he frequented, where he occasionally gathered information or acted as a guide, just enough to make a living.
Guo Xing's home was located near Devil's Bar, but it took a winding path through the alley before one could find a very ordinary wooden house.
He opened the door casually, and the interior was simply furnished, just like any other household, lacking any furniture he had bought himself. The house was empty except for Guo Xing, who was pouring water for Zheng Yifan and the others.
Sitting inside, Zheng Yifan chatted with Guo Xing, asking about some matters concerning the Gathering Place.
Where had all the people in the Gathering Place gone? After all, there were over three hundred thousand Survivors lured to Han Sui City Gathering Place by Luo Yaoyang. Even if there were many jobs in the Gathering Place, it wouldn't be enough to support them all.
The amount of food consumed was far more than what Zheng Yifan provided—he was supporting nearly three thousand people and understood all too well how quickly they went through food.
Consuming half of a Granary was no joke.
From Guo Xing's description, Zheng Yifan finally realized that most of these people were taking advantage of the nearby towns; each town and those few cities were their targets. They would venture out for several days, trading countless lives for precious food. Now, they had even begun to set their sights on the Solar Power Station outside Kaiyi City.
This Solar Power Station had once been a national project, a benchmark for efficient utilization of Clean Energy, certainly not comparable to an ordinary Solar Power Station. Consequently, the resource reserves within the power station were substantial. Additionally, being situated in a desolate area naturally led to a large stockpile of food.
Although it had gradually fallen into disrepair over the years since the Post-Apocalypse, food supplies had never ceased and might even have increased.
Such an amount of food would make any faction envious; however, the roads were extremely difficult to traverse. With long stretches of wasteland ahead, transportation would have been easier with vehicles. Now that those hybrid energy vehicles were out of commission, they had completely abandoned that idea and could only rely on people from the Gathering Place to push carts themselves. It was quite normal for two people to push a Tricycle loaded with three to four hundred pounds of food.
Thus, like ants, crowds moved toward that place. However, no one dared approach the Solar Energy panels at the Solar Power Station. The reflected Solar Energy made the area even hotter; if one accidentally got caught in the concentrated sunlight, it could lead to severe burns.
So that place became a Restricted Area.
Guo Xing even shared some awkward jokes about people who accidentally wandered in.
What was a joke to Guo Xing, however, sounded like an opportunity to Zheng Yifan.
After all, it was Clean Energy, a national-level project with funding that was absolutely astronomical. If he could get hold of the entire Solar Power Station and even transport it into the real world, any country would welcome it.
Especially Developed Countries, which place a high emphasis on environmental protection; they would be eager to have a Clean Energy Company set up shop. The patents involved were countless, and even the less significant aspects could accumulate into a patent barrier, allowing them to secure more funding.
In the apocalypse, it could also open up greater trading opportunities, with the real world serving as a massive factory supporting the Apocalyptic World.
The money earned from Clean Energy would likely surpass that of jewelry companies; the two industries were worlds apart. Energy? Who doesn’t need it? Everyone is bound by necessity and pays for energy.
Moreover, with Guo Xing's technical introduction to the situation within the Gathering Place, from several well-known Mercenary groups to the daily needs of Survivors, as well as policies in the Gathering Place and a series of welfare benefits, everything was detailed.
He even had a rough idea of the locations of several nearby Gathering Places.
In just a short time, a general picture and map formed in Zheng Yifan's mind. The future development direction and next steps gradually began to take shape.
Meanwhile, Li Ning clumsily operated his notebook, slowly inputting Guo Xing's words.
Finally, Tian Ye could no longer bear it and snatched the ten-inch notebook away, helping Li Ning with the input.
Sun Xing looked at the familiar computer in the post-apocalyptic setting, clearly surprised, but soon he felt a sense of relief.
According to reports, the First Division had gradually begun to use electrical devices, so it was certainly possible for others to have access to laptops as well. The only difference was that it depended on luck to encounter a Formation Master.
Sun Xing's introduction continued. Zheng Yifan was also a good listener, carefully noting every key point and then studying them in detail. He needed information, but more importantly, he needed people.
And there was no shortage of people at the Han Sui City Gathering Place.
Now, new survivors were surprisingly joining the Han Sui City Gathering Place, only to be exploited and drained of their resources.
Yet even so, they accepted their fate willingly. This was because there were very few zombies in the Han Sui City Gathering Place.
Most of the incoming survivors clearly belonged to the category of soft targets; they had come here after being unable to withstand the pressure of facing zombies and enduring days of hunger. When they arrived, they thought they had found a sanctuary, but little did they know they had merely jumped from one hell into another.
In contrast, the brave souls within the Han Sui City Gathering Place willingly rushed to the front lines, fighting desperately against zombies and snatching food from their mouths. They were warriors, a group rich in creativity and courage. These individuals gradually caught Zheng Yifan's attention; he watched them closely like a hawk. He needed such warriors.
They were exactly the people Zheng Yifan needed most.
