After training with the Bloodbath Legion warriors for an entire afternoon, Zheng Yifan finally felt invigorated. He removed the specially designed weighted gear, which weighed over three hundred pounds, and placed it back into the storage room. Zheng Yifan knew that he would need to prepare more weights in the future.
Weights of one or two hundred pounds were no longer sufficient to support the training of a Superpowered Individual; he needed to increase the load. Now, with a single punch, he could deliver a force equivalent to one or two tons, making him a superhuman in the real world. However, through his training, he could clearly feel that his body was still absorbing Vital Energy to enhance his strength.
After finishing his workout, a faint trace of energy from the In Calamity image within him merged into Zheng Yifan's body.
With more containers available, the amount of energy he could store increased correspondingly. The power brought by his ascension naturally replenished within Zheng Yifan, and his understanding of Shooting Skill deepened as well.
"Perhaps Pu Qiang is right; the body is a vessel for power. The larger the vessel, the stronger the power." With a smile on his face, Zheng Yifan finished washing up and appeared in the main hall of the General's Office wearing light clothing.
Han Rui sat in a chair in the hall, carefully examining her reflection in a mirror. Occasionally, she would pull out a few items from her bag to touch up her eyebrows or perform facial massages.
It was clear that she had not fared well during her days of disfigurement; her once proud beauty had faded away, and she could only remain strong.
Now, she finally realized that she was just a woman. Watching Zheng Yifan rise like a new star, she began to gradually consolidate her subordinates.
His formidable strength ensured that he could turn danger into safety most of the time and instilled fear in those under him.
"Welcome everyone. I believe today is a special day for you all." After entering the hall and taking his seat at the head table, Zheng Yifan watched as others took their seats.
The seven individuals before him looked very familiar; they were the biologists and scientists rescued from the resort.
"Chief, thank you for your generosity. I will be your most loyal subordinate," said the youngest scientist as he knelt on one knee and performed an unorthodox knightly salute.
This was something they had learned at Han Sui City Gathering Place, where the lord appreciated such gestures, and gradually they had adopted it.
"There is no need for such formalities. At Hope Gathering Place, what we need is everyone's hope for life, loyalty to humanity, and loyalty to me. There is no need to kneel; that is a product of feudal oppression of human nature," Zheng Yifan stated with righteous conviction.
"It is commendable that you have recognized your value by officially joining Hope Gathering Place and bravely applying for Essence. However, Essence is definitely not free; in the future, you will need to pay for it with scientific research, your Superpower, and your clever minds."
"In the future, you can create value for yourselves simply by paying taxes legally. If you wish to join the Collective Laboratory of the Gathering Place, you will gain access to superior equipment, a better living environment, and more favorable conditions. However, you must offer all your wisdom to the Gathering Place and to me," Zheng Yifan slowly introduced to the seven individuals.
The scientists were nearly in tears of joy. They had always been under the control of powerful forces; while they never had to worry about food and drink, freedom was something they could never attain, not even after the Post-Apocalypse.
Little did they know that now Zheng Yifan was telling them they could apply to use Essence and that in the future, by paying a price, they could regain their freedom.
"I only wish to join the Collective Laboratory of the Gathering Place and serve you, Leader. I have never had any other thoughts," the oldest scientist stood up before anyone else could react, even before the younger ones could voice their own ideas.
Soon after, the others realized that in this Gathering Place, loyalty to this young leader was the only way to gain maximum benefits. The end times were not like the peaceful era of the Post-Apocalypse; there was no absolute fairness—only power and influence reigned supreme. They had no right to seek their own strength in this world; anything that obstructed this young man would be crushed by the wheels of profit.
"We will also join the Collective Laboratory of the Gathering Place and become members of the lab."
"I will join the Collective Laboratory of the Gathering Place too!"
...
The seven individuals quickly understood that joining the Collective Laboratory of the Gathering Place was their only way out. They were among the first to step out from their group.
Seizing this opportunity for rebirth was their best outcome. They believed other biologists and scientists would gradually join them as well; those who acted quickly would benefit while those who hesitated would miss out. At this moment, with no foundation in the Hope Gathering Place's laboratory, joining felt like a timely aid in a snowstorm—far better than mere embellishment.
"Very well. Once you sign this contract, you can receive your Essence," Zheng Yifan placed several contracts on the coffee table; it was a basic manifestation of civilization.
The individuals eagerly signed their names without hesitation. This was a formality and a fundamental attitude indicating that they still retained their basic rights and were not mere slaves.
After signing the contracts, bottles of Essence were placed on the table. The Essence emitted a faint red hue, resembling diluted blood. The scientists looked at it with some hesitation, casting puzzled glances at Zheng Yifan.
They were not like Li Ning, who was merely a Mudbug; they had seen Essence Fruit before and had even studied it for a time.
Thus, they did not believe in a 100% success rate; they only hoped to obtain higher-grade Essence that would guarantee an activation probability above a certain percentage.
Unexpectedly, in the Hope Gathering Place, which only had around three thousand people, there was such exquisite Essence. It was clear that it had undergone purification, significantly increasing the success rate.
"Thank you!" Several scientists joyfully accepted the Essence and drank it on the spot.
They had already heard Han Rui introduce the auxiliary Essence. After use, it would only cause a brief fainting spell before activating their Superpower.
Without hesitation, everyone gulped it down, leaning back in their seats like drug addicts.
After a good ten minutes or so.
"Ah!" The youngest scientist was the first to recover.
"Li Chuang, how does it feel to have Superpower?" Zheng Yifan teased.
With a look of bliss, Li Chuang slowly opened his eyes, swaying as if he had just woken up. "This feeling is amazing! It's as if my entire genetic makeup has been elevated by the Essence. My bodily functions are completely enhanced; my previous nearsightedness is gone. It's like... it's like..."
After a long pause.
"Yes! A rebirth! Coming back to life from the abyss of death," Li Chuang said, lost in ecstasy. As the sensation of elevation gradually faded, he took his contract and recorded his Superpower, stating, "According to the sudden information I received, my Superpower allows me to decompose and reassemble metals. It's called Heavy Metal. It’s quite similar to my previous research topics; I believe this information will be useful to you."
"Ah!" Soon after, another relatively young biologist also woke up, excitement written all over his face as he wrote down his Superpower on the contract.
"My Superpower can alter ecological environments and set up ecological formations. It should be a branch of Formation Master, focusing on plants. Based on my current abilities, I should be able to enhance the growth of ordinary plants, increase yield, and boost nutritional value." Then, Zheng Yifan noticed his excited smile, clearly satisfied with his own Superpower.
Others were slowly waking up as well, except for the oldest scientist who seemed to take longer due to his age.
The next three individuals turned out to be Formation Masters, though they were not special ones—just ordinary Formation Masters.
However, despite this, they were very content. After all, any Formation Master would be incredibly valuable at the Han Sui City Gathering Place. Yet here at the Hope Gathering Place, three appeared together, one of whom was a special plant Formation Master.
The last person who had not yet manifested their superpower was an old biologist over sixty years of age, now staring in shock at his own body, his face filled with excitement.
Everyone knew what he was excited about; all the ailments that had plagued him were gone. His presbyopia had transformed into perfect vision, and he felt at least thirty years younger. His bodily functions were nearly restored to their youthful state. In other words, he could easily live another forty or fifty years.
No one knew the struggles he had faced. He was suffering from cancer, and his visit here was merely to secure a future for his family by selling off the remnants of his life.
But now, unexpectedly, joy had found him again, granting him a new lease on life.
"Wow, I never knew that Essence could cure cancer. This is truly the greatest discovery of the century," he marveled as he stroked his hands, now smooth and radiant where age spots had faded.
"When I was at the Han Sui City Gathering Place, I helped some people consume Essence Fruit. They only gained superpowers and showed signs of excessive adrenaline secretion, exhausting their life potential. I never expected that our research on Essence at the Hope Gathering Place had advanced so far! We have moved from merely activating potential to enhancing and fully activating it!" His astonishment grew.
It was important to note that at the Han Sui City Gathering Place, he had not become the head of the laboratory primarily due to his age and the late-stage gastric cancer that made him an uncertain candidate.
However, his expertise was undoubtedly the highest in the entire lab; he could be considered a National Treasure-Level Professor.
Now, reborn and smiling, he wrote down his superpower on the contract.
"Suspected High-Level Superpower, material analysis."
