Outside the Bloodbath Legion barracks, a supercar was "racing" towards them. This model, a limited edition with only five units produced worldwide, was the ultimate dream machine for countless young people in the Post-Apocalypse era.
However, after the end of the world, it was just an ordinary piece of junk. Yet, this particular car had somehow regained its energy from the Post-Apocalypse.
Let’s say it had somewhat recovered, because its speed was painfully slow. While it was faster than those tricycles, a few passing trucks could easily outpace it.
The only downside was that those trucks would soon be scrapped; the longer time went on, the fewer fuel-powered vehicles remained operational. Currently, in the entire Hope Gathering Place, there were only a couple of vehicles still running, fulfilling the last mission of oil-powered machines in this world.
"Is this what you call racing?" Zheng Yifan awkwardly watched the leisurely moving supercar, his lips twitching.
He had expected Han Rui to push the car to its limits and give him a taste of speed, but this was the outcome.
"Do you think it's that easy to get this junk moving? My superpower can only activate the Zombie Crystal and turn it into active energy. The actual usage still requires help from a Formation Master. If we categorize it by profession, I’m just an energy provider; those Formation Masters are like electricians arranging cables and wires. Ultimately, to apply that energy to various machines, scientists need to create machines that can utilize it," Han Rui slowly corrected Zheng Yifan's worldview.
Formation Masters were not those powerful big shots who could set up formations and eliminate all enemies.
They merely served as electricians who harnessed energy from Zombie Crystal s and arranged entire energy circuits to form Vital Energy defenses on city walls. When applied to machinery, they could replace power sources.
However, fully utilizing the power of Zombie Crystal s required Han Rui's activation ability. It was akin to the difference between low-voltage and high-voltage electricity in wires; but unlike that, the power unleashed by activated Zombie Crystal s depended entirely on the user's needs rather than being fixed.
This was a supply-on-demand situation. When using ordinary Zombie Crystal s, Formation Masters could only utilize energy based on the maximum overflow capacity of those crystals, which required an enormous base number. Moreover, the purity of energy could not compare to that of activated Zombie Crystal s.
"In this way, as long as we have Formation Masters in our Hope Gathering Place, we can widely use Post-Apocalypse machinery. Most importantly, autumn plowing is just around the corner; we must get Agricultural Machinery running again so we can plant as much food as possible," Han Rui continued, then pulled out an entire book of proposals.
These documents were compiled by the group of strategists during Zheng Yifan's expedition. They contained everything from promotions for Gathering Place officials to requests and suggestions.
Zheng Yifan could only slowly look over each item above and continuously check them off.
These items had already been organized by the staff, with each one accompanied by suggestions, reasons, introductions, and comments.
The most important aspect here was the use of the auxiliary Essence, which was crucial for the Gathering Place in the near future. Almost all departments were applying for it, except for the military, which was requesting those that could be used for Superpowered Individuals. As for those who could only farm or conduct research, they had no interest. However, they specifically applied for a quota for Formation Masters.
This was because they wanted to reactivate some firearms from the Post-Apocalypse era. According to intelligence gathered from the Han Sui Gathering Place, a First Level Zombie Crystal could allow a firearm to fire about ten shots. As for larger weaponry, higher-grade Zombie Crystal s would be needed; they did not obtain that crucial information.
Even so, it was enough to astonish Zheng Yifan. If they were to bring along one million Zombie Crystal s, that could produce ten million bullets—enough to overwhelm Zheng Yifan and his team.
However, Zheng Yifan did not plan to waste Zombie Crystal s like that. By the time Han Rui's report reached his hands, Zombie Crystal s had already become a strategic resource. They were needed for machinery use, electricity restoration, and Superpower upgrades; practically every aspect of life required the presence of Zombie Crystal s. For military equipment, using just sniper rifles would suffice; activating some Machine Guns would be enough. In future wars, reliance would primarily be on Superpowered Individuals, who were not afraid of firearms. Missiles could still instill fear in them, but those required not just quantity but also high-quality Zombie Crystal s to activate.
"The Explorer Alliance must look beyond Ruiguan and Jiang Grand Bridge; the Underground Passage must also be started soon. We just need to deter Fourth-Stage Zombies; they possess enough intelligence. For Third Stage and below Zombies, we can still use fire attacks and slaughter them during training exercises to let new recruits practice," Zheng Yifan took over half an hour to finish reviewing the documents in hand.
Using traps to lure Zombies was humanity's wisdom in the apocalypse. Although Howling Wind Gathering Place was wiped out by Zombies in this Underground Passage, it was unfortunate luck on their part. It was difficult to find Mutated Plants in the vast grasslands south of Ruiguan, leaving them with Zombie Crystal s that they could not utilize.
Zheng Yifan had shifted his focus back to Howling Wind Gathering Place, where there were many reserves of Zombie Crystal s and possibly many people seeking refuge. These were extremely valuable assets in the apocalypse.
"Within the Gathering Place, this Li Qiang has performed well. His application for troop transfer and exchange of Essence based on merit has been approved; any shortfall will be repaid later. The applications from these five biologists and two scientists have also been approved. You need to keep a close eye on everything else as well; arrange all Essence properly for unified distribution." Zheng Yifan set forth a plan to utilize all Essence available; further designation of remaining quotas would require continued collaboration with the staff and Han Rui to find suitable candidates.
Talent was severely lacking; the total population within the Gathering Place posed the greatest obstacle to their development.
For now, they could only pick the best among those who were less capable; as long as someone was loyal and showed some results in their work, they could be selected for consideration. Then they would gradually eliminate candidates until all quotas were filled. In the future, obtaining Essence would require merit for exchange.
Ordinary people had no chance of obtaining the auxiliary Essence. These were the lifeblood of the Hope Gathering Place, and they had to be kept in the hands of their own.
The five biologists and two scientists had just been rescued from the resort, which had officially been named Hope Base City. Relocation efforts had already begun, and reconstruction was progressing rapidly, expected to be completed within one to two months.
The speed was many times faster than that of the Post-Apocalypse, and the quality surpassed it as well. This was to be their future home, the place where they would survive.
When the vehicle came to a stop, warriors from the Bloodbath Legion were running by, passing alongside Zheng Yifan's car. Each warrior paused, stood at attention, saluted, and then continued running. They recognized Zheng Yifan, the one who brought them hope.
At that moment, Pu Qiang slowly jogged toward Zheng Yifan's car, but his pace was noticeably slower. The heavy gear he wore explained why.
Pu Qiang was clad in a full set of weighted equipment, bulging with what must have been over a hundred pounds.
"Hey... Boss, can we drive now? Get me a few Hummer Dragons?" Pu Qiang looked at the supercar with shining eyes, his long-held desire surfacing.
"Stop dreaming; this piece of junk can barely hit 40 miles per hour. It's not even as good as a motorcycle," Zheng Yifan replied, kicking the tire as he opened the car door.
Han Rui awkwardly stepped out to explain, "That's because there are no Formation Masters in the Gathering Place. We can only use basic wiring just to make it work, and even that wastes Zombie Crystal s."
Then Han Rui lifted the hood and saw that all the coils had been removed, leaving only a circuit board-like component embedded with over a dozen First Level Zombie Crystal s. The color of these Zombie Crystal s had faded significantly, nearing transparency.
"That's such a waste," Zheng Yifan remarked. Wasting over a dozen Zombie Crystal s for such a short distance was something even a Rich Tycoon couldn't afford!
"There’s no choice. Without a Formation Master, too much energy is lost in the circuitry; hardly any of it translates into kinetic energy. If we had a Formation Master, these Zombie Crystal s would be enough to power this sports car. Moreover, if we could set up a circuit to slowly recover the Zombie Crystal s's Vital Energy, it could support continuous use. I believe once we accumulate enough Zombie Crystal s, it could run indefinitely," Han Rui said confidently.
Since obtaining his Superpower, he had been studying its uses, much like a child who had just received a new toy.
Zheng Yifan smiled and nodded, "I'll be waiting for that."
Beside him, Pu Qiang quickly added, "I can pre-order a Hummer Dragon for however many Military Merits it takes."
He was practically drooling at the thought.
Zheng Yifan had seen the Hummer Dragon before; it was a massive beast, a true monster of steel and iron. It was nothing like the restrained and majestic vehicles of the real world; it was a genuine ferocious creature, and just looking at it could send chills down one's spine.
Even in the Post-Apocalypse, such vehicles were not allowed to be sold within Huaguo. Zheng Yifan's collection consisted of only that one vehicle, making it a symbol of wealth and status—a true treasure for any man.
"I'll consider it a promise. As long as you achieve something significant, I'll reward you with one," Zheng Yifan declared with a wave of his hand.
Pu Qiang quickly responded, "It's a deal." He was nearly salivating at the prospect.
"Not so fast! What are you wearing that gear for? Trying to be funny?" Zheng Yifan pointed at the heavy equipment Pu Qiang was strapped with.
"It's two hundred pounds! I'm training my strength and endurance. Now I realize how important a good body is; without it, even a Superpowered Individual is useless," Pu Qiang replied with an awkward smile, hinting at something deeper.
