Bloody Storm Arena is located between the Howling Wind Gathering Place Inner City and the outer city area, connecting both zones.
This is the largest casino, arena, and Slave Trading Market in the entire Howling Wind Gathering Place.
Slaves bought here rarely serve willingly; they can only perform in bloody battles. However, acquiring a Gladiator from the Bloody Storm Arena who competes in mid-level or higher Gladiatorial Arena matches is undoubtedly a powerful asset. Each of them is a formidable warrior, capable of charging through hordes of Zombies.
The enemies of the Gladiators are not fellow combatants but rather Zombies. These are First-Level Zombies, drawn here by blood.
Within the Gathering Place, there is a tunnel that stretches tens of thousands of meters away. This wide tunnel was once part of the Sewers, repurposed by the Howling Wind Leader to attract Zombies for the Gladiators to slaughter. It also collects Zombie Crystal s on a grand scale, much like exploiting a bug in a post-apocalyptic game.
In the mid-level area of the Bloody Storm Arena, promotions are running rampant. After half a month of extensive advertising, it has been officially announced that today will host the mid-level Slaughterer Tournament. The winners of the competition, except for the first place, will be auctioned off to those Big Shots who control most of the resources in the Gathering Place.
Zheng Yifan never considered himself a Big Shot, yet he calmly arrived here. For ordinary people, this place is also one that drives them mad.
At the entrance, there are over twenty betting stations with no upper limit on wagers. These stations accept bets in any form of resources and have strict exchange standards, with the final measurement unit being Zombie Crystal s.
The towering Gladiatorial Arena, over thirty meters high, is grand and massive, its raw concrete structure lacking any aesthetic appeal.
The Gladiatorial Arena rivals a football field in size. The surrounding stands are already filled with spectators watching the matches.
Of course, those Big Shots are in private boxes; outside, gamblers are placing their lives and fortunes on their favorite Gladiators. If they win, they will squander their earnings at various entertainment venues in the Inner City. If they lose, they will gather their partners to search for resources outside before returning to continue gambling.
This cycle repeats itself; few ever accumulate resources.
It simply isn't worth it.
Entering the Bloody Storm Arena, one can feel the frenzied roars; this place was originally a school playground. One can still vaguely see where the teaching building used to be across from the podium, though it has been completely transformed by Howling Wind.
The entire passageway rises from bottom to top. By the time Zheng Yifan reaches the stands, it is already bustling with noise. Below the high platform is an overall stacked wall, its hardness even greater than that of the outer city walls. Inside, seven Gladiators are preparing their weapons while various armories filled with carefully selected weapons surround them. Even the City Guard of the Howling Wind Leader does not fully equip themselves with these weapons.
Of course, when it comes to weapons, a Gladiator is a warrior who fights with flesh and blood. If everyone wore armor, who would want to watch such a mindless game?
"There’s no Left Protector in the Gladiatorial Arena; with his skills, he should be participating in the Slaughterer Tournament," Han Rui's Silver Fang creaked as he bit down.
The Slaughterer Tournament is the only chance for Gladiators to gain their freedom, as the first-place winner will be granted unconditional liberty, while the others will be sold off as commodities to the Big Shots.
They don’t need champions from the Gladiatorial Arena; what they want are matches that bring bloodshed and casualties.
In the oppressive environment of the apocalypse, people crave blood, they desire death, and they need the courage to perish alongside Zombies.
The Slaughterer Tournament is the most difficult battle before retirement. In this fight, the victor will have a chance to continue living; if they fail, they will die completely—there won’t even be a chance to become a Zombie.
In the Intermediate Area Regular Battle, each Gladiator faces a fixed number of Zombies—five or ten per person, with some competitions even featuring hundreds of kills.
However, in the Slaughterer Tournament, there are no limits. Gladiators must confront nearly endless Zombies for half an hour before the Underground Passage is sealed off, allowing them to use the remaining time to clear out the Zombies.
Throughout past Slaughterer Tournaments, the average survival rate has been 0%. In the match with the highest number of survivors, not even half made it out alive. Many faced total annihilation, with no one surviving.
Finding a random spot, Zheng Yifan and Han Rui sat down. At this moment, all they needed to do was watch the matches; it was still early and merely a warm-up for the Slaughterer Tournament. Each match would last about an hour and consist of five battles. The event would continue until afternoon, after which it would transition to an auction at Bloody Storm Arena's Auction House.
There, not only would there be Slave Auctions but also various peculiar items and precious resources up for bid.
The entire afternoon would be a shopping frenzy as Big Shots spent their resources and Zombie Crystal s, ensuring that Gathering Place had more supplies so that more people could survive while contributing to their wealth accumulation. The resources fought for with lives would eventually return to the hands of Big Shots, further enriching them.
Everyone knew this was a vicious cycle but willingly indulged in it; who knew if they would even be able to open their eyes again tomorrow?
"Kill! Bone Crusher! Today you are a hero; you will surely win! I’ve bet all my Zombie Crystal s earned this week on you. Defeat those ugly Zombies and let Uncle Zhou strike it rich!" Right in front of Zheng Yifan was a pure gambler whose face was covered in excess flesh, displaying an excited expression as he screamed frantically.
It was a common phenomenon; nearly everyone was roaring in excitement. The passionate shouts in the Gladiatorial Arena never ceased. Zheng Yifan and Han Rui were certainly outliers in the arena, their demeanor not much different from the Big Shots hiding in the luxury boxes above, except they weren't dressed in extravagant clothing or sipping on high-end red wine that was worth a hundred or even a thousand times more than gold in this post-apocalyptic world.
Lazily reclining against the backrest of the stands, they gazed intently at the Gladiatorial Arena.
The battle began. The walls constructed of reinforced concrete were sufficient to prevent most Zombies from climbing up to the stands. Those Advanced Zombies that only appeared in cities and towns would never come through the Sewers.
For those powerful Zombies, traversing through the Sewers was nothing short of an insult or a threat. Although they might not understand what an insult was, it could also be that the space within the Sewers was simply too cramped for their bulky forms, as not a single Zombie above Second Tier had ever appeared.
"Ka ka ka!" The Fence opened, and ugly Zombies crawled out from the Underground Passage like demons from hell, lunging at the Gladiator before them.
The crowd in the stands grew more excited, yet they seemed to know better than to look down at the arena.
Zheng Yifan observed closely; the walls of the Gladiatorial Arena were covered with a type of pale purple Climbing Tiger. Any wall that had Climbing Tigers present was avoided by the Zombies.
Through a week of observation, Zheng Yifan learned that this plant was called Eggplant Purple Lilac. It effectively blocked First-Level Zombies' probing and emitted a scent that repelled them. Of course, for Advanced Zombies, this plant would only incite their fury, driving them to destroy it completely.
It was evident that these plants thrived in the Gladiatorial Arena; there were no Advanced Zombies here at all. Even during the Slaughterer Tournament, Advanced Zombies would never appear.
They simply could not contend with or defeat those terrifying monsters.
