The hotel where they were staying was located in a rather quiet neighborhood. Most importantly, it was quite far from the coastline.
The roaring engines of speeding cars echoed like those of supercars, racing away at breakneck speed.
“How far are we from the beach?” Li Hong couldn't help but ask.
He only knew that Las Vegas was situated in the desert of Nevada, but he had no idea how far it was from the coastline.
The shadowy guard sitting next to Li Hong remained silent for a moment before explaining in a hoarse voice, “It's probably several hundred miles. We need to switch to a plane up ahead. We'll bypass Los Angeles and head straight to the West Coast. Mr. Li, please rest assured, we have everything arranged.”
Switching to a plane?
Li Hong felt uneasy; this was going to be quite difficult.
However, he could understand their arrangement. After all, they were too far from the coast, and if they relied solely on these cars to get there, they would likely be intercepted before reaching the beach.
But what about the plane? Wouldn’t it be shot down by missiles?
Suppressing his curiosity, Li Hong decided not to voice this question.
Soon, after racing down the empty highway for over ten minutes, the convoy turned onto a side road and entered a farm.
After getting out of the car, they walked to a helipad behind the farmhouse and boarded a helicopter.
He had no idea how these people had managed to make arrangements beforehand, but somehow this helicopter took off and landed without attracting any attention from the air force.
The flight lasted about an hour. When Li Hong stepped off the helicopter with Lin Ruxian and Yuchen, a familiar face appeared before him.
“Mr. Li, we need to leave immediately. They’ve discovered that you’ve been rescued; it’s very dangerous here now,” said the young man who had previously informed Li Hong of the situation, his expression unusually serious.
Li Hong nodded and quickly boarded the speedboat that had come for them under the protection of the Black Scab Warrior.
The speedboat was small; once Li Hong's family and the young man were seated, there was no more room left.
Seeing that the Black Scab Warriors had no intention of boarding the ship, Li Hong couldn't help but ask, "What will they do?"
The young man smiled lightly. "Mr. Li, don't worry about them. They are the most elite warriors on Earth; they have their own escape methods."
"Alright." Since the young man said so, Li Hong didn't press further.
In the night, a speedboat cut through the calm sea surface, carrying several people hastily away into the dark depths of the ocean.
After the speedboat left, the Black Scab Warriors quickly vanished, and it was unclear where they had retreated to.
...
Deep in the Pacific, a strategic-level nuclear submarine was lurking in the territorial waters of a certain country.
In the command room at the front of the submarine, a man dressed in a blue and white navy uniform was frowning as he looked at a report in his hand.
A lieutenant hurriedly entered and saluted, reporting, "Captain, sonar long report indicates a suspicious patrol warship ahead."
"Understood. Avoid them!" the man replied in a deep voice.
The lieutenant saluted again. "Yes!"
The man then said, "Have the Communications Officer, Chief Petty Officer, and Chief Engineer come to see me."
"Yes!" The lieutenant saluted once more and quickly left.
Soon after receiving the message, the Communications Officer and others left their posts and arrived at the Captain's command room.
"Captain!" They each saluted the man in turn.
He waved his hand, signaling for them to sit down.
"Everyone, I believe you are all wondering why we suddenly changed our course and intruded into U.S. territorial waters?"
A few people looked serious. "Captain, isn't this classified information?"
The man nodded and continued, "That's right, it is classified. However, the mission is about to begin, and I can tell you now."
"We are currently positioned just 0 nautical miles off the U.S. West Coast, which is precarious. But we need to continue deeper; we have an important target to retrieve and escort back home."
The Chief Engineer and others felt the immense pressure of their mission weighing down on them.
"Captain, we are already taking extreme risks. If we go any deeper, we could very well be exposed," the Chief Engineer was the first to object.
As the commander of a Nuclear Submarine, the Captain was well aware of these risks, but he had no choice but to proceed.
"Chief Engineer, this is an order. We have no options!"
Hearing this, the Chief Engineer straightened up and saluted. "Understood, I will obey the order!"
The Captain said solemnly, "Everyone, I've received word that the target has been escorted to the seaside by the Black Scab Brigade and has now boarded a fast boat for departure. The next phase of the mission is up to us."
The Chief Engineer and others felt a chill run down their spines. It was already surprising that they were deploying a submarine for such a pickup operation; now that the Black Scab Brigade was involved, it seemed the target was not an ordinary person.
"Now, I want to know one thing: during our ascent, is there a possibility we could be spotted by satellites?" the Captain asked with a frown.
Submarines are indeed underwater weapons, but during ascent, they are highly susceptible to being detected by omnipresent satellite surveillance.
If the submarine were exposed, it would lead to serious consequences. Publicly deploying a submarine into territorial waters is no small matter. Surfacing in international waters could also lead to waves of threats being publicized. As Captain, he had to take responsibility for this.
The Chief Engineer's expression was grave. "Captain, it's very likely. Although they primarily monitor offshore activities, there is certainly surveillance within territorial waters as well. According to our data, the likelihood of exposure during our ascent is over ninety percent."
The Captain's face darkened as he said in a low voice, "Then let's minimize our time on the surface as much as possible. We're only picking someone up; it won't take long. Just manage your timing."
"Yes!" Several people stood up, their faces filled with determination.
...
Everything happening on the submarine was completely unknown to Li Hong. At that moment, he was still sitting on the swaying speedboat, moving in the designated direction.
Now, a more serious situation had arisen. Lin Ruxian was experiencing severe seasickness, and with the cold wind blowing across the sea surface at night, things were looking grim.
Yuchen, still recovering from an illness, was also struggling; the nighttime escape combined with the current temperature was truly concerning, and his face was as pale as paper.
Li Hong watched all of this with growing anxiety. His only hope now was to reach the agreed-upon sea area as quickly as possible and board the submarine that was coming to rescue them. Otherwise, if things continued like this, they might end up with two more patients.
The young man noticed Lin Ruxian and Yuchen's distress, as well as the urgency hidden in Li Hong's eyes. He couldn't help but speak up to reassure them: "Mr. Li, please don't worry. We'll be there soon. I hope you can hold on a little longer!"
"Let's hope so..." Li Hong replied with a bitter smile.
