The door opened, and a group of individuals dressed in white entered, much to Li Hong's surprise.
At the forefront was an elderly man with white hair. He extended his hand to shake Li Hong's and quickly asked, "Where is the patient?"
Li Hong snapped back to reality and pointed towards Yuchen's room. "Right in there, please hurry."
The group didn't engage in small talk with Li Hong; they hurried into the narrow room.
Li Hong exchanged a glance with Lin Ruxian, both recognizing the excitement in each other's eyes. Without hesitation, they followed the doctors into Yuchen's room.
The elderly man rolled up his sleeves and was about to check Yuchen's pulse when a young man beside him prompted him with an awkward smile directed at Li Hong.
"Sorry, Mr. Li, I forgot to introduce ourselves."
With that, he quickly retrieved a familiar second-generation identification card from his inner pocket.
"Allow me to introduce myself. Hello, Mr. Li, I am Dr. Deng Wanbo from the Chinese Embassy in the United States. Here is my work ID and identification card; you can verify our identities by calling the Embassy."
"No need for that; just by looking at your skin color, I can tell who you are." Despite saying this, Li Hong took the ID and carefully examined it.
Once he confirmed its authenticity, Li Hong allowed the doctors to proceed with Yuchen's treatment.
Lin Ruxian, who had stepped out to contact the Embassy for verification, soon returned and nodded at Li Hong, indicating that there were no issues with these individuals.
Li Hong turned to the elderly man apologetically. "I’m sorry; these two have been under close scrutiny lately."
The old man smiled gently as he took Yuchen's wrist. "No need to apologize, Mr. Li. We understand your current situation; this is what a father should do."
With that, the elderly man and his noticeably younger assistants began examining Yuchen's condition.
At that moment, a previously silent young man approached Lin Ruxian, smiled at her, and subtly gave her a look that suggested she should step back.
Li Hong noticed this as well and guessed the young man's identity but had no objections; he simply asked Lin Ruxian to wait outside for him.
Lin Ruxian glanced back at the suffering Yuchen three times before finally closing the door behind her at Li Hong's encouraging gaze.
After Lin Ruxian left, the young man opened his mouth and then pulled out a compact electronic device from behind his molars. Upon seeing the flashing red lights on the device, he pressed a button on it.
Until the instrument stopped flashing red and turned into a steady green light, the young man finally spoke to the puzzled Li Hong beside him, "This is an Electronic Jammer. It lights up red when there are electronic devices nearby. Once the shielding button is pressed, any electronic devices within ten meters will experience a temporary malfunction."
Li Hong nodded. He understood that this young man likely came from a secretive background. Being among these doctors meant he had important matters to discuss with him, but he hadn't expected them to use an Electronic Jammer; it seemed things were more complicated than he had imagined.
Moreover, he realized why the young man had remained silent until now. It turned out he had been concealing a miniature device in his mouth, which explained his reluctance to speak.
Li Hong was deeply impressed by these individuals' ability to hide things. The space behind the gums was so small that he would have to open his mouth for an examination. Yet, this guy managed to discreetly conceal an Electronic Jammer without a hint of anxiety.
Li Hong admired this skill; he figured that even if he practiced for a lifetime, he wouldn't be able to achieve such mastery. It required not only exceptional hiding techniques but also a bold and meticulous personality to execute it.
He knew that those who could enter this place must have reached some undisclosed agreement with the U.S. side. Clearly, carrying such dangerous prohibited items was part of that agreement.
To act against the U.S. side required immense courage and carefulness. If someone with poor psychological resilience were to attempt it, even if they could perfectly hide the device, they would likely tremble during inspections and give themselves away.
He understood that if caught in such actions, being charged with espionage would be entirely justified. The person executing the mission would become a sacrificial pawn at the negotiation table. Without strong psychological fortitude, no one would dare engage in such activities.
It was precisely because of these thoughts that Li Hong held such admiration for the young man. He knew his own limitations; even if he could hide a device, he would probably reveal himself through nervousness.
Only individuals from these secret departments possessed the fearless mentality necessary to carry out such missions.
In Li Hong's eyes, only such people deserved the title of King of Soldiers. Those who easily resorted to violence over trivial matters in urban settings, killing entire families over minor grievances, were merely muscle-bound brutes.
The true King of Soldiers resembled this young man—ordinary in appearance and lacking any destructive prowess. Yet they accomplished many incredible and seemingly unbelievable tasks using just those very qualities.
"You are impressive!" Li Hong sincerely praised.
The young man smiled but offered no explanation.
After sharing a brief smile, the young man turned serious and said to Li Hong, "Mr. Li, I believe you now understand your situation."
"I understand; just get straight to the point," Li Hong sighed.
The young man nodded. "There is no doubt that the U.S. side will not let go of this matter easily. Our representatives have conducted over fifteen rounds of negotiations regarding your issue with them. Even the highest officials you can imagine have communicated with the American President about this matter. Unfortunately, the U.S. side remains unwilling to relent or has set extremely harsh conditions for doing so."
"I can guess as much; I’ve been foolish all along. I thought even if they reacted, they wouldn’t be so lacking in principles. It turns out I overestimated American integrity," Li Hong shook his head.
The young man's gaze sharpened as he pondered before saying, "Mr. Li need not be discouraged; whether intentional or not, the current situation is that you must return home."
"I don't want to go back to my country either, but the problem is they won't let me go!" Li Hong said with a bitter smile.
The young man pondered for a moment. "Mr. Li, with conventional methods, you probably won't be able to leave the United States. Given your importance to your homeland, we have decided to employ all unconventional means to ensure that you and your family can return home smoothly."
"Unconventional means?" Li Hong couldn't help but furrow his brow.
This was not good news; conventional methods were the prevailing solutions at the moment. If unconventional means were used, the situation could become very difficult to manage. If this escalated, the U.S. side might become furious, and a third world war wouldn't be out of the question.
Although this possibility was still minimal, once unconventional methods were on the table, anything could happen.
Using conventional methods to solve problems might just be a matter of face; everyone would only lose a bit of dignity on the world stage, without resorting to violence. After all, they were all major powers; no one had particularly thin skin, and losing face didn't matter much.
However, if unconventional methods were truly employed, it would no longer be just a matter of face but rather a competition that could affect national fortunes. In the end, it might even lead to secret hostilities escalating into an all-out world war.
