The conversation between the father and daughter was close enough that Lin Ruxian could hear it clearly.
However, she felt no anger at being called the "Demon Queen." Instead, the scene before her seemed harmonious and beautiful.
Yuchen hid behind Li Hong, munching on an apple, while Li Hong squatted down, occasionally reminding Yuchen to eat slowly and brushing away the apple bits from her mouth.
This warm interaction between father and daughter instantly reminded Lin Ruxian of her own father, who had cared for her in the same way.
At that moment, a strange thought suddenly arose in her heart. Lin Ruxian unexpectedly felt that finding a man like Li Hong to marry wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
"What am I thinking?" She covered her face and peeked at Li Hong, relieved to see he hadn’t noticed her.
Oh no, oh no! What kind of nonsense was she thinking? Someone like Li Hong, who had no sense of romance, could never be her target.
Fortunately, Li Hong was too busy taking care of Yuchen to notice Lin Ruxian's strange thoughts.
After wiping Yuchen's mouth with a wet wipe, Li Hong stood up and said to Yuchen, “Yuchen, be good and eat slowly. Uncle is going to cook now.”
“I'll help you, Uncle!” Yuchen looked up and smiled.
“Such a good girl, Yuchen can cook too,” Li Hong chuckled as he took Yuchen’s hand and headed toward the kitchen.
Sitting on the sofa, Lin Ruxian squirmed uncomfortably. Although Li Hong and Yuchen looked so warm and harmonious together, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
After some time, Lin Ruxian realized that it was herself who felt out of place. Among the three of them, she seemed somewhat redundant. Her greatest role appeared to be that of a perfect backdrop for this father-daughter duo.
With this realization, Lin Ruxian felt a wave of defeat wash over her. With her status as an international superstar and her stunning beauty, she had always been the unique focus of any crowd. Yet here she was for the first time, reduced to a mere background figure.
How could this discovery not drive Lin Ruxian crazy?
Determined not to let things continue like this, she thought that if she kept overthinking, she would inevitably be drawn to Li Hong. So she decided to take the initiative and ask him about his thoughts on something important.
As she approached the kitchen door, just as she was about to speak up, Lin Ruxian was suddenly stunned by the scene before her.
Yuchen squatted on the ground, playfully poking at the fish in the basin with her fingers, her cute face filled with joy and satisfaction.
Beside Yuchen, Li Hong rolled up his sleeves, wearing a loose apron, rhythmically chopping carrots with a shiny knife.
In that moment, Li Hong no longer seemed like the intimidating boss to her; instead, he resembled an uncle selling breakfast on the street. The rough apron couldn't hide the heavy sense of security he radiated, like a mountain.
This feeling was something Lin Ruxian had only experienced with one man—the father who had raised her.
Watching Yuchen squatting there, teasing the fish, Lin Ruxian felt as if she saw a shadow of herself—a girl of the same age, happily laughing behind her father.
She realized that shadow was indeed herself!
Not wanting to disturb Li Hong, Lin Ruxian leaned against the kitchen door, watching him busily move around the stove without blinking.
Children seemed to be much more perceptive than adults. Before Li Hong even noticed Lin Ruxian, Yuchen had already spotted her standing outside with a lovesick expression.
Pouting, Yuchen felt her good mood vanish in an instant.
Why had she escaped from the female tyrant only to be chased down again? Yuchen felt utterly hopeless.
Seeing Yuchen's crumpled face upon noticing her, Lin Ruxian couldn't help but laugh uncontrollably.
How frightening could she possibly be? Was it necessary for Yuchen to make that expression?
Waving Yuchen over, Lin Ruxian ruffled her hair and curiously asked, "Hey, Yuchen, don't you remember me?"
"I don't remember," Yuchen replied with a frown and a shake of her head.
Lin Ruxian rolled her eyes in exasperation. How could she not remember after meeting a big star just once?
Well, she decided not to hold it against a child!
Choosing to skip over that topic, Lin Ruxian turned to Yuchen and asked gossipingly, "Yuchen, tell me, does your uncle have a girlfriend?"
Yuchen pouted, her face scrunched up as she said, "I'm not telling you."
Lin Ruxian let out a light snort, looking as smug as a weasel that had just stolen food. "I know you won't tell me. With your uncle acting like that, there's a good chance he won't find a girlfriend."
"Hmph, you're lying! My uncle definitely has a girlfriend!" Yuchen retorted, clearly displeased.
Now it was Lin Ruxian's turn to be shocked. No way could someone who seemed to have a disdain for women and was so clueless actually have a girlfriend?
"Really? Yuchen, quickly tell me who the blind person is!" Lin Ruxian asked eagerly, her curiosity piqued.
In the kitchen, Li Hong had already noticed the two women whispering at the door, but he was too busy cooking to pay them any mind.
However, he was genuinely curious about Yuchen's claim that her uncle had a girlfriend. When did that happen?
Could it be that Yuchen discovered the dolls hidden under his bed?
Feeling anxious, Li Hong found himself somewhat distracted while cooking.
Meanwhile, seeing the expectant look in Lin Ruxian's eyes, Yuchen raised her chin proudly and declared, "Yuchen isn't blind! My uncle's girlfriend is... Yuchen!"
"Bang..."
The spatula fell to the floor as Li Hong hurriedly picked it up, his face a mix of amusement and disbelief.
Lin Ruxian shot an annoyed glance at Li Hong as he retrieved the spatula and muttered under her breath, "You scoundrel!"
Then she turned to Yuchen and ruffled her hair seriously. "Yuchen, you cannot be your uncle's girlfriend."
"Why not?" Yuchen asked, somewhat confused.
"Because your uncle already has a girlfriend! In fact, he has several!" Lin Ruxian pretended to be very serious about it.
Sure enough, this appearance had indeed fooled Yuchen, who anxiously asked, "Sister, who is Uncle's girlfriend? Why have I never seen her?"
"Who haven't you seen? You clearly have," Lin Ruxian replied with a mischievous smile. "Your uncle has two girlfriends, one named Left and the other Right..."
Before Lin Ruxian could finish, a carrot head hit her on the head.
Li Hong, holding a kitchen knife, said ominously, "If you keep messing with Yuchen, next time I might just throw the knife!"
"Okay, okay, I'll be quiet!" Lin Ruxian conceded, intimidated by Li Hong's frightening demeanor.
"Aunt Left? Aunt Right?" Yuchen murmured Lin Ruxian's words, her face filled with confusion and bewilderment.
