In just a few lines, Soulmate was quickly finished.
"Interesting, a mechanic wanting to go for a massage yet hesitating out of fear of getting caught," Soulmate said with great satisfaction.
This had depth; if performed well, he might even win an award for Best Supporting Actor. Salty Fish still had a chance to turn things around, so why couldn't Soulmate dream of the same?
"Everyone, prepare!" Lu Mao shouted into the loudspeaker from behind the monitor.
In an instant, the entire film set fell silent, all eyes focused on Soulmate in front of the camera.
Soulmate took a deep breath, and under the expectant gazes of everyone, he made a 'K' gesture towards Lu Mao.
After gathering his emotions, Soulmate slowly walked to the center of the street. Behind him was a tracking camera that glided smoothly along its path, following his every step.
As he reached the "Night Rose" hair salon, Soulmate's expression froze. In a genuine tone, he murmured, "On such a lonely and cold night, why are there still these colorful lights? And why are the girls inside dressed so scantily? With their heavy makeup, they look like ghosts."
With that, Soulmate displayed a conflicted expression. He seemed hesitant, his Nike-clad feet lingering at the threshold. One hand fidgeted nervously while the other rummaged through his pockets as if hoping they would make a decision for him.
Finally, after pulling out a few crumpled ten-yuan bills, Soulmate sighed helplessly.
Just as he was about to turn away, the door of Night Rose swung open. An heavily made-up Obese Woman stepped out while picking her nose.
"What do you want?" she asked.
Soulmate's face was filled with disappointment as he shook his head and replied bitterly, "No thanks, I didn't bring any money."
"How much do you have?" the Obese Woman pressed on.
Soulmate's handsome face turned red with embarrassment as he stammered, "Zero."
In that moment, on the deserted street where no one passed by, the air suddenly became thick with tension.
The Obese Woman's lips moved slightly, and she almost asked, "What do you take me for?" But she swallowed the words back down. No matter how down-and-out her Soulmate was, he was still one of her few regular customers.
"Come in and shut the door," the Obese Woman said softly.
With that, she turned her ample waist and walked into the shop.
Soulmate asked incredulously, "Is it okay to pay zero? Why would you put yourself in such a position?"
"In this line of work, there's no such thing as being wronged. If I don't take clients, what will I eat today?" She turned back with a bitter smile.
Soulmate changed his shoes at the entrance and curiously asked, "What's going on? Don't you have many customers?"
"Where are all these customers? I’m not afraid of you laughing at me; you're my first client in half a month." Once Soulmate closed the door, the woman came over to carefully put away his shoes and said lightly.
Soulmate's fingers trembled slightly, his heart in turmoil.
Wasn't she implying that he was propping up her meager business? In an instant, Soulmate understood why she charged fifty; he could get away with paying zero.
"If business is so bad, why not stop doing this?" Unable to suppress his compassion, Soulmate spoke up.
The woman paused while taking off her clothes and then coldly laughed, "If I don't do this, what will I eat? I'm not getting any younger; what else can I do?"
"I'll support you!" For some reason, when Soulmate heard her say that, the words slipped out before he could think.
As soon as he said it, he froze. Perhaps this was a good idea! Bringing her home would save him even that zero. As long as she was fed, wouldn’t that be like a permanent contract in disguise?
The Obese Woman exclaimed in surprise, "Are you serious?"
"Of course! Why would I lie to you?" Soulmate replied joyfully.
After finishing the sentence, Soulmate could no longer contain her inner joy and rushed over to embrace Soulmate tightly. Burying her head in Soulmate's chest, she exclaimed excitedly, "Darling, you are just too wonderful! I’ll waive the fee of 0 today!"
"That's great!" Soulmate replied happily.
With that, the two of them hugged each other tightly like conjoined twins, pushed open the door to the room, and walked inside.
"Great job, great job!" Lu Mao announced cheerfully to everyone while holding a megaphone.
Soulmate, drenched in sweat, took off her costume and leaned over to ask, "Lu Dao, how did I perform? Was it okay?"
Lu Mao patted Soulmate on the shoulder and said appreciatively, "Not bad, not bad! Your acting has improved! The future Best Actor is you!"
Receiving Lu Mao's praise, Soulmate replied joyfully, "You're too kind! It's all thanks to Lu Dao's guidance. Without your help, I probably wouldn't even have made it through the basics."
"Not at all; it's clearly your own talent."
While the two were exchanging friendly compliments, far away in the Three Kingdoms World, Li Hong was troubled about how to rescue Ma Su.
Ma Su returned shortly after leaving, looking grim as he reported to Zhuge Liang.
It turned out that during the army's march, they were constantly delayed by trivial matters like building bridges and roads. Additionally, wild beasts that occasionally appeared posed a threat to the soldiers' safety. Therefore, in order to return quickly to Shu Han's capital Chengdu and for safety considerations, a vanguard team needed to be dispatched. Zhuge Liang had appointed Ma Su as the leader of this vanguard team.
This made Ma Su uneasy; he knew Zhuge Liang was cunning. Sending him out to clear the way might have some ulterior motive. However, unable to figure out what schemes might be at play, he had no choice but to return and consult Li Hong.
Li Hong was also puzzled. Normally, there shouldn't be any issues with clearing a path. But since this suggestion came from Zhuge Liang, it raised concerns. Just as Ma Su suspected, Zhuge Liang might be plotting something behind the scenes. If they weren't careful and fell into his trap, it would spell disaster.
Yet since Zhuge Liang had already given the order, Ma Su had no choice but to comply. After all, it wasn't the right time to fall out with Zhuge Liang; he still needed his support.
"This is Zhuge Liang's open scheme. Even if I know it's likely dangerous, I have to charge ahead regardless. It's infuriating; if he pushes me too far, I'll rise up against him and take down that detestable Zhuge Liang," Ma Su said angrily.
Unexpectedly, his words reminded Li Hong.
Ma Su was now in a dilemma; if he chose to open the way, it would likely lead to disaster. If he didn't, it would only give Zhuge Liang an excuse to eliminate Ma Su without any effort. However, as soon as Ma Su raised the banner, Li Hong instantly had an idea.
"Young Chang, how far is it to Chengdu from here?"
Although Ma Su didn't understand why Li Hong was asking this, he still answered seriously, "It's about eight hundred miles; a fast horse can get there in one night."
"That's great! Young Chang, gather the troops and prepare to set out to open the way," Li Hong said happily.
Ma Su was anxious. "What do you mean by that? Zhuge Liang assigned this task with clear ill intentions; how can we..."
"I certainly know Zhuge Liang has ill intentions, but you have no choice, do you? At this point, you must rebel. Take your troops and ride swiftly to Chengdu. While Zhuge Liang has not yet returned to court, capture Young Lord Liu Shan and control the court."
"Isn't this outright rebellion?" Ma Su pressed.
