The concept of a virtual world was utterly baffling to Glen, who felt as if he were losing his intelligence when faced with such ideas and theories.
"Okay, okay, I know I don't understand any of this," Glen said, scratching his head awkwardly.
Zhao Xin shook his head nearby while grooming his adorable Husky.
"Hey Xin, isn't your wife still awake?" Glen asked curiously.
At this remark, Li Hong stared blankly at the well-behaved Husky in Zhao Xin's hands. Was this really his wife?
Ignoring Li Hong's dazed expression, Zhao Xin remained calm and explained, "Don't listen to him; this is my dog that I've raised for over ten years. We've formed a bond."
"How am I wrong? Didn't you tell me this was your wife?" Glen countered.
Zhao Xin's face turned awkward as he stammered, "Well, that was when you didn't understand things yet. Why are you holding onto that?"
"Uh, what's going on here? It seems like there's quite a story behind this," Li Hong asked with curiosity.
Zhao Xin's mouth twitched as he replied irritably, "Well, you see, back then I didn't know better and got kissed by it."
"Uh... so that makes it your wife?" Li Hong asked in disbelief.
Getting kissed by a dog wasn't exactly a big deal, right? Even if Zhao Xin didn't understand things back then, he wouldn't think that a kiss made it a wife.
"Let me explain. Xin's mom told him that if kids kiss, they can get pregnant. So when he got kissed by his dog, he thought it was going to get pregnant..." Glen laughed uncontrollably.
"Yeah, my mom told me that too. After getting kissed by my dog, I started following it around. About a month later, my dog really did get pregnant. At that point, I thought as long as I had enough food for myself, I couldn't let them go hungry," Zhao Xin said awkwardly.
"Pfft..."
Li Hong never expected such a turn of events. He thought Zhao Xin, the single dog owner, had done something unforgivable to his own dog. Little did he know it would be like this.
"Hey, hey, hey, let me tell you, this isn't the end of it.
When the dog gave birth, Zhao Xin cried and insisted on staying by her side. It was easy for the dog to get scared during labor, and she almost didn't make it.
At that time, Zhao Xin held his dog in his arms, so heartbroken that he nearly followed her into the afterlife!
If it weren't for his mother chasing him out of the doghouse with a broom, who knows what he would have done."
Glen couldn't help but laugh at the story.
Zhao Xin rarely showed any embarrassment, but he seemed to feel ashamed for his past ignorance.
Glen continued, "And that's not all. After the puppies were born, Zhao Xin used his saved-up pocket money to buy a set of red clothes and performed a ceremony with his dog!"
"Alright, alright, I knew you wouldn't hold back," Zhao Xin said helplessly.
Li Hong was nearly in stitches from laughter. They never imagined that this imposing man before them had such an indescribable past.
"Is this her?" After laughing, Li Hong pointed at the Husky in Zhao Xin's arms.
"Yes!"
Zhao Xin gently stroked the Husky's soft fur and said with a hint of sadness, "She's almost 16 years old now; she's an elderly dog. I don't know how much longer she has left..."
"Don't worry, Zhao Xin. Nowadays, there are ways to deal with all sorts of demons and monsters," Glen reassured him.
Zhao Xin nodded, but a hint of worry still lingered in his eyes.
After raising it for over a decade, even a flower or plant could foster an inseparable bond. Not to mention, this was his first one he openly acknowledged as his "wife." How could he bear to part with it?
Li Hong sighed from the side. A dog like this, having a master like Zhao Xin, was both fortunate and unfortunate.
The fortune lay in not having to endure the consequences of being abandoned by its owner, nor facing a lonely and helpless existence. The misfortune, however, was that deep feelings would inevitably leave an unhealable scar when it came time to part.
Thinking of this, Li Hong suddenly felt a strong urge to help Zhao Xin. At the very least, he empathized with Zhao Xin and his dog and didn't want to see him in pain.
"Will the Virus Solution work on it?" Li Hong asked curiously, pulling out the Flame Empress that had been stored in his spatial ring.
The Flame Empress coldly replied, "Liar, I refuse to answer any of your questions."
"Hey, why am I a liar? Do you really have to be so dramatic as an artificial intelligence? With that tone, I might as well be a cheating scoundrel!" Li Hong retorted, feeling exasperated.
Had this woman been locked away in the spatial ring for too long? Why was she speaking so oddly? Li Hong could honestly say he had never done anything wrong to the Flame Empress.
Where did this accusation come from?
The Flame Empress's voice grew even colder. "You see, as long as I cooperate with you all, you will take me out of Nightmare Space. But now, you haven't fulfilled your initial promise at all!"
Li Hong wiped away nonexistent cold sweat from his forehead and explained to the Flame Empress, "Listen to me. Our plan was nearly perfect and was about to be realized. Who knew we would be discovered by Nightmare Deity? Can't you see we're hiding now and too scared to show ourselves? And don’t worry; we’ll be out soon."
"Exactly! Fire girl, getting anxious won't help. It's not that we don't want to get out; the problem is we can't right now. Nightmare Deity is probably furious enough; if we show our faces, there won't be anything left of us," Soulmate chimed in earnestly.
"……"
The Flame Empress paused for a moment before speaking in a low voice, "Alright, I'll trust you this time. But this is the last time. If there's a next time, don't expect me to help you."
"Got it! Got it! First, tell me, can this Virus Solution help Zhao Xin?" Li Hong asked.
"It can, but the success rate is only sixty percent. The remaining forty percent will lose all sense and completely turn into a Zombie dog."
Li Hong nodded in satisfaction and then peeked out from under the bed, asking Zhao Xin, "Zhao Xin, I can modify your dog to give it incredible super abilities and cells that almost never age. Would you be willing?"
Zhao Xin was still curious about what Li Hong had been mumbling about under the bed and was taken aback by such a question when he finally emerged.
His eyes flickered uncertainly as he hesitated to ask, "Is there any guarantee?"
He was anxious; his dog was getting old, and it could pass away at any moment. So hearing Li Hong's proposal made him excited.
Li Hong replied uncertainly, "It's a sixty-forty chance. The possibility of success is sixty percent. If it fails, it will lose all consciousness and become a monster."
