It was now. I quietly pressed the switch on the Voice Recorder. "Professor Zhou, I’ve seen everything. The tampered Experiment Records, the fabricated data, and the evidence left by Sister Li Ling..." 0

The office fell into a dead silence. My heart raced as if it would explode. 0

Suddenly, Professor Zhou smiled. "You think you can threaten me with this?" 0

"I'm not trying to threaten you," I forced myself to stay calm. "I just want to know the truth. Why do this? Just for the Academician title?" 0

"You’re too naive," he said, standing up and pacing to the window. "In this circle, who isn’t like this? No papers mean no funding, no results mean no status. Li Ling was too serious about it, which is why she..." 0

He suddenly stopped and turned to stare at the pocket of my lab coat. "So, is the recording device ready?" 0

A shock ran through me. He had seen through it all. 0

Just as I was about to speak, my phone suddenly buzzed. It was a message from Senior Zhang: "Run! There’s a problem with the instrument acceptance! Professor Zhou is checking the surveillance!" 0

I jumped to my feet, but Professor Zhou had already circled around behind me. 0

"Hand over the Voice Recorder," his voice brooked no argument. 0

At that moment, the office door swung open. Senior Zhang stood in the doorway, holding a document. "Professor Zhou, something's wrong! The new instrument has malfunctioned!" 0

Professor Zhou froze for a moment. Seizing the opportunity, I dashed out of the door. 0

A furious shout echoed behind me: "Stop right there, Professor Zhou!" 0

But I had already dashed into the stairwell. Footsteps approached from both above and below—he really had planted spies in the Laboratory. 0

"This way!" Senior Zhang grabbed my arm and pushed open the Fire Escape door. 0

We raced down the stairs, not stopping until we reached the Underground Garage. In the darkness, the headlights of Senior Zhang's car flickered to life. 0

"Get in!" He opened the passenger door for me. 0

The engine roared to life, and the car sped out of the garage. In the rearview mirror, the lights of the Laboratory Building gradually faded away. 0

I slumped in my seat, my hands still trembling. The contents of the Voice Recorder weren't lethal enough, but they at least proved that Professor Zhou was aware of the data fabrication. 0

"You took too much of a risk," Senior Zhang said, his hands shaking on the steering wheel. "What if he..." 0

"Thank you," I interrupted him. "If it weren't for your timely warning..." 0

He fell silent for a moment. "So, what do we do now?" 0

I pulled out the USB Drive from my pocket. "This evidence may not be enough to bring down Professor Zhou. But at least..." 0

"It’s enough to trip him up during the Academician review," Senior Zhang interjected. "But what about you in the Laboratory..." 0

"I've thought it through for a long time," I said, gazing out at the rushing streets. "Truth is more important than a degree." 0

Senior Zhang suddenly pulled over to the side of the road and turned to look me in the eye. "Do you know why Li Ling had the courage to report you last year?" 0

"Why?" 0

"Because she thought the same way." He smiled bitterly. "And you saw what happened." 0

I clenched my USB Drive tightly. "This time it's different. Because... I have you helping me." 0

The car fell silent, with only the distant streetlights flickering in the darkness. 0

"You received a Level Two academic warning." 0

Senior Zhang tossed a red-headed document in front of me. I glanced at it: Experiment Record not compliant, contradictory experimental data, violations of Laboratory management regulations... a series of baseless accusations. 0

It had been three days since I fled from the office that night. I hadn't dared return to the Laboratory, instead hiding in my rented room to organize evidence. Senior Zhang had become my eyes and ears within the Laboratory. 0

"This isn't even the worst part," he said as he sat down across from me. "Professor Zhou has kicked you out of next week's defense team." 0

I let out a cold laugh and continued typing. On the screen was a letter of complaint addressed to the University Academic Committee. 0
