Yama's Wedding
Looking at the figure of Star Lord Yao Guang before him, the Dragon Lord felt an overwhelming sense of regret. Perhaps he should never have saved her in the first place.
Now, he was sending her to fight against the Rain People of the court, fully aware that this battle would lead to no outcome. He was essentially sending her to her death.
For some reason, after his recent discussion with the Jade Emperor, the Dragon Lord found himself filled with a sense of compassion. To others, Star Lord Yao Guang was just another member of their kin, but he understood the deeper connection.
The Dragon Lord knew well that the Big Dipper Seventh Star had been nurtured in this realm through the power of Father and Mother. He himself had once bowed before them.
He had always accompanied Father and Mother until they faded away from this world.
The Big Dipper Seventh Star, however, had been embedded in this narrative from birth, meant to illuminate the world.
Yet now he was about to send her to her demise, which made the usually resolute Dragon Lord feel a twinge of shame.
The Big Dipper Seventh Star was destined for tragedy, and he could not extricate her from it.
So he steeled himself to allow her to sacrifice herself for this cause. With that thought in mind, he recalled the moment when Yao Guang stepped onto the battlefield alone.
After leaving the room, Yao Guang soared into the clouds. Channeling her magical powers to their fullest extent, she arrived at the battlefield in an instant.
Below her, flames erupted as a hundred thousand Aquatic Race warriors surged forward, their spirits high. Nearby, several dragon-like beings guarded their ranks.
In the depths of the sea, the Aquatic Race revealed themselves. Some appeared as humanoid beasts, others as beast bodies with human heads, while some displayed their true forms in all their terrifying glory.
This scene ignited a fire within Yao Guang. Although a hundred thousand Aquatic Race warriors were not an insignificant force, their fighting spirit astonished her. Unlike her previous encounters with those soldiers, Yao Guang could now deeply feel the fury of the dragon clan.
The sight of unity among them moved Yao Guang profoundly.
If given a choice, who would willingly turn against their comrades before battle? Yet the actions of those soldiers had left her heart cold.
When the Aquatic Race warriors saw Star Lord Yao Guang appear, they all lifted their heads to look at her. At that moment, Star Lord Yao Guang shone brightly with starlight! The fiery glow of her Yao Guang Spear radiated intensely.
The Aquatic Race lay in wait at the Bottom of the Abyss, eagerly anticipating a command from the Star Lord Yao Guang above.
Yao Guang squinted up into the air, where she could see the Celestial Glow drifting among the clouds to the south.
They're coming! Yao Guang tightened her grip on the Golden Spear, aiming it at the sky.
In an instant, the sound of War Drums echoed from within the mist, booming like rolling thunder.
Suddenly, countless Soldiers emerged from the previously empty clouds, clad in Golden Helm and Silver Armor, their Spears raised high, Axes and Halberds filling the air.
These Divine Weapons exuded an overwhelming aura, appearing invincible. Their imposing presence sent chills down one's spine.
Yet Yao Guang couldn't help but chuckle at these Soldiers before her.
Perhaps only she understood that these seemingly formidable warriors were nothing more than decorative pillows—insignificant. In contrast, her Aquatic Race may not shine as brightly as these celestial beings, but their combat prowess far surpassed that of these so-called immortals.
Then, another figure appeared in the sky—a celestial being with flowing robes, filling the air with vibrant colors and an ethereal aura.
The sudden appearance of this immortal did not ease Yao Guang's tension; instead, it left her bewildered.
Yao Guang fixed her gaze on this divine figure, realizing that it was none other than Xue, who had transformed into her true form in her hands.
How is this possible? Wasn't Xue already in her true form? To revert back to a physical body would take at least a thousand years.
How could she appear right before me? Initially, Yao Guang thought this was a trick devised by Ting to confuse her. However, no matter how closely she examined it, this was indeed Xue rself.
"Xue, are you alright?"
Yao Guang's once resolute heart wavered at the sight of Xue.
Before her stood Xue, still cold and expressionless, gazing at Yao Guang. In those eyes, Yao Guang felt utterly exposed, as if Xue could see right through her.
"Xue, what's wrong with you? Don't look at me like that, it's me, Yao Guang!" Yao Guang was about to take a step forward when suddenly, swords shot up from beneath her feet. If she hadn't reacted quickly, she would have been pierced by them. Startled, Yao Guang looked incredulously at Xue, whose face showed no sign of emotion. What was happening?
"Xue, what on earth is going on? Tell me!" How could it be like this? Xue looked at her as if she were an enemy.
"Rebel, perish!" These simple three words plunged Yao Guang into an abyss of despair. From the beginning until now, Xue had only uttered these three words to her, and yet they felt like a death sentence for Yao Guang.
"Xue, don't you recognize me? I'm Yao Guang, your Yao Guang!" She shouted at Xue.
"I know you are Yao Guang, my former lover, but now we are on different paths. Since you choose to rebel, I must uphold this principle. Forget everything that happened before!"
Xue's expression and words left Yao Guang in a daze. How could it be like this? She never imagined that she and Xue would come to this point. The scene before her reminded her of the deepest fears she had buried within herself.
Back in that illusion, it was precisely because of such a scenario that the imagined scenes mirrored the present situation perfectly. Ever since seeing herself and Xue become enemies in that illusion, Yao Guang had been unable to sleep day or night.
Was this scene really coming true? Xue was willing to put her life in danger over such a trivial principle. What was the point of her rebellion then? Everything she had done was for Xue, but now it all seemed meaningless.
No. This must be because of Ting; otherwise, why would Xue treat her like this? It had to be Ting's fault. Yao Guang glared angrily at Ting. Did Ting really want to push her into a corner with no way out? If so, then what did her rebellion matter?
"Fine, fine, fine!" Yao Guang repeated the word "fine" three times; her inner fury was palpable.
"Since we are on different paths and cannot work together, then show me your true abilities. I've never fought you face to face before; I don't even know how we measure up against each other. Let's have a real battle now!" Yao Guang's mind was in turmoil; she didn't even know what she was saying or what she should do. She just felt an overwhelming urge to vent her frustrations.
"Alright." Xue easily agreed to Yao Guang's challenge.
Hearing Xue's response only made Yao Guang tremble with anger.
Unfortunately, she didn't see the hint of tenderness mixed with the coldness in Xue's gaze as he looked at her.
Her mind was consumed by the indifferent words Xue had just spoken.
No matter what happened, her determination would not waver; not even Xue could stop her from making this decision.
This was not just for herself, nor solely for Xue, but also for her brothers who had been overlooked in the court for many years.
"Alright, let us see who is stronger between us," Yao Guang said to Xue.
At that moment, Xue felt a deep sense of rejection. Ever since he had awakened, he had heard the words of the celestial beings in the court; they said that Yao Guang had already betrayed them and become one of the Dragon Clan. Although he did not know what had happened to Yao Guang, he understood that no matter what, he had to protect her, even if everyone else believed she had betrayed them. Regardless of the circumstances, Yao Guang was the one he loved. No matter what she did, he would never leave her side. As for those matters of principle and fate, what did they have to do with him? All he wanted was for Yao Guang to be safe by his side. He was neither suited nor willing to engage in the schemes that others harbored. Just like how Candle Dragon abandoned Phoenix Empress back in the day, he would never learn Candle Dragon's sentiment. He would never allow Yao Guang to remain alone in this world like Phoenix Empress.
No matter who took care of Yao Guang, he could not rest easy. And as for what lay ahead, it was better for him to take care of the one he loved himself.
So after awakening, he sought out Western Buddha. Buddha merely looked at him with pity; it had been a long time since they last met.
They engaged in a private conversation for half an hour, after which Buddha told him one thing: "Everything is up to Jade Emperor; you will surely reap the rewards after enduring hardships!"
He pondered over this statement endlessly. Although he did not understand Western Buddha's meaning, it seemed to imply that he should listen to Jade Emperor's words and follow his instructions. If he did so, he would endure hardships alongside Yao Guang.
Thus, he decided to let Jade Emperor take charge. Jade Emperor commanded him to lead these soldiers against the Dragon Clan, and he obeyed.
Jade Emperor instructed him to be resolute in front of Yao Guang. Consequently, Xue uttered words that caused Yao Guang great pain. However, seeing her in such a distraught state filled his heart with reluctance.
Yet when he thought about their future, Xue steeled himself once more and suppressed his feelings of sorrow for Yao Guang. He looked at her and said, "Come on!"
