Yama's Wedding
The atmosphere was heavy with malevolence as the Greedy Wolf appeared, the ground beneath charged with dark energy.
Shu flew forward alone, and a blinding light shot straight from the dark sea towards the army of the Demon Dragon.
"Shu will definitely bring that Demon Dragon to justice, right?" Kaiyang, standing beside Yao Guang, couldn't help but feel excited. The blood in his veins surged with a desire to join Shu in capturing the Demon Dragon.
"Yes, he will!" Yao Guang replied firmly. She believed that Shu would surely bring these Demon Dragons to account.
As Shu advanced, he faced an overwhelming aura of demonic energy that surged towards him like a mountain pressing down. Even during his days of hunting demons in the lower realms, he had never encountered such a severe concentration of demonic energy. It seemed that this group of Demon Dragons had indeed undergone demonization.
Shu's gaze deepened with an inscrutable intensity. For some reason, the deeper he ventured into the layers of mist, the more he felt that something else lurked within it—something that did not seem to belong to the dragon clan.
"Come on!" shouted several Demon Dragons upon seeing Shu approach alone.
Shu immediately focused all his attention on these few Demon Dragons before him. Within the mist, dragon roars echoed as those cunning dragons momentarily vanished into the clouds, only to reappear before Shu Xing Jun. No matter how closely Shu examined them, it was difficult to discern how many Demon Dragons were actually present.
The Ancient Dragon Clan was feared not only for their formidable physical strength but also for their powerful magic. Most deities could only master one type of magic, while dragons typically practiced two schools of magic simultaneously. For instance, during the sacrificial event involving the Candle Dragon, all forms of magic were concentrated in that one being. Thus, dragons were regarded as extraordinary beasts and often inspired fear.
As Shu plunged into the mist, he vanished from sight.
"Big brother should be fine, right?" Yao Guang asked nervously upon seeing Shu disappear.
"Yao Guang, don't worry. Shu's magical power is the strongest among us Star Lords. We just need to wait for his victorious return!" Xuan reassured Yao Guang.
Meanwhile, Xuan's eyes remained fixed on the spot where Shu had vanished, anxiously monitoring any signs of movement within.
Yao Guang reined in his thoughts, focusing intently on the spot where Shu's figure had vanished. He hoped that Shu would soon appear before him; otherwise, Yao Guang's heart would remain heavy with worry.
As Shu entered the mist, he was momentarily disoriented by his surroundings. Suddenly, two Demon Dragons emerged, breathing fire directly at him. Shu Xing Jun carefully dodged the flames, but then two more Demon Dragons appeared behind him, exhaling icy breath.
It turned out that there were four Demon Dragons skilled in both fire and ice magic.
At that moment, Shu found himself surrounded by the four Demon Dragons. Realizing their initial attack had failed, they unleashed another barrage of fire and ice toward him.
Seeing this, Shu shot upward into the sky with a speed that rivaled lightning. He managed to evade the attack, but the four Demon Dragons were not so fortunate. As they watched Shu disappear from their sight, they failed to retract their flames and ice in time, resulting in a catastrophic collision as their own attacks struck each other.
The impact left the four Demon Dragons reeling in pain, their roars echoing like thunder.
Dazed and disoriented, they swayed unsteadily, their massive heads spinning as they struggled to regain composure.
Witnessing their plight, Shu Xing Jun showed no mercy. He unleashed his own spells of ice and fire against the four Demon Dragons. Once hailed as a rare prodigy by the Jade Emperor, Shu was not only an ancient star incarnate but had also spent countless years mastering various magical disciplines beyond mere innate abilities. His skills were nearly on par with those of the legendary Candle Dragon.
The Demon Dragons, now in disarray, bared their fierce jaws wide open as if intending to swallow Shu whole.
However, instead of retreating in fear, Shu advanced boldly. With one hand free, he seized the angular crest atop one Dragon's head and used its momentum to propel it forcefully toward another Demon Dragon.
There was a loud crash as two of the Demon Dragons plummeted from the sky into the mist below.
The Aquatic Race below had been beating drums and brimming with battle spirit when suddenly two Demon Dragons fell from above. Their helpless state signaled defeat. In midair, they could not maintain their dragon forms and reverted to human shape before crashing heavily into the water, sending up massive splashes. This unexpected turn left the Aquatic Race stunned. In such a short time, Shu Xing Jun had managed to defeat two of the formidable Demon Dragons.
Meanwhile, the mist over the sea thickened even further. Now even Yao Guang and Kaiyang could barely discern what lay within it. The lower-ranking members of the Aquatic Race strained to see what was happening above them but found it impossible to make out any details despite their efforts.
"Kaiyang, look! Didn't Shu just bring down those two Demon Dragons?" Yao Guang exclaimed excitedly, grabbing Kaiyang's hand. She had always believed that Shu would not let them down and would surely win this battle.
At that moment, Shu Xing Jun was carefully searching for traces of the remaining two Demon Dragons in the mist. After dealing with the first two, the remaining ones quickly hid themselves, sensing that the situation was dire.
In this mist, they found their refuge; even Shu couldn't locate their position for a while.
The two Demon Dragons, seeing Shu take down two of their kind with just one strike, realized the danger and quickly released a cloud of mist to conceal themselves. In reality, they were not far from Shu, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Suddenly, a powerful wave surged from beside Shu, catching him off guard. He felt as if his insides had been rearranged. The armor he had been wearing was now in tatters. Shu swallowed the blood that surged up from his chest; he could not afford to give up at this moment.
If Yao Guang and Kaiyang had been by Shu's side, they would have seen his face turn completely pale. His chest heaved as he struggled to swallow the blood pooling in his mouth.
The source of this forceful wave was the tail of one of the two Demon Dragons that had been lurking nearby.
They had cleverly hidden beside Shu in the mist, waiting for him to let his guard down while he searched for them. Then they swiftly swept their tails toward him without causing any disturbance in the air. As they got closer, they unleashed all their strength and struck Shu with their dragon tails.
The blow severely weakened Shu. However, it also allowed him to pinpoint the location of the two Demon Dragons; their figures could no longer escape his sight.
Shu gathered his strength and concentrated his Starlight, illuminating the entire mist.
As a result, the scene within the mist became visible to outsiders.
"This is bad; Shu is burning his Starlight!" Quan exclaimed in astonishment.
Yao Guang also noticed that what had once been an impenetrable fog was now slowly brightening up; it was clear that Shu was igniting his own Starlight to light the way.
This was serious! Starlight represented the lifespan of Star Lords. Their ability to coexist with time itself stemmed from the power of Starlight. A strong Starlight indicated a powerful Star Lord's magic, while a weak Starlight signified issues with their celestial body.
What exactly had just happened that made Shu use his own Starlight power?
Yao Guang felt a wave of tension in his heart. If the Starlight burned out, it would shake the lifespan of the Star Lord.
“No, it’s not like that!” Kaiyang, who was usually carefree, said as he looked at Shu.
“What?” Yao Guang asked, puzzled.
“Look!” Kaiyang pointed at Shu, who was fighting in the air, addressing Yao Guang and the others.
Following Kaiyang's direction, Yao Guang and the others looked over, and that glance eased their worries.
It turned out that Shu had merely lit up his own Starlight, which made them mistakenly believe he was burning it away! In reality, Shu was just illuminating the mist around him with the brightness of his Starlight.
Seeing this scene before them, Yao Guang and the others finally felt relieved and focused their attention back on Shu.
With his Starlight lit up, Shu could finally see through the mist ahead, and the two Demon Dragons were now exposed before him.
“Indeed, it is the Star Lord; we can finally see you!” one of the Demon Dragons raised its massive dragon head and spoke to Shu.
“Sneaking up from behind is hardly honorable!” Shu had always looked down on such underhanded tactics. He had just been ambushed by these two Demon Dragons in the mist, which left him feeling quite displeased.
“Hahaha! You call us sneaky? If it weren't for your Jade Emperor ambushing our dragon clan back in the day, we wouldn't have fallen to such a state!” The Demon Dragon retorted without hesitation upon hearing Shu's words.
Shu was aware of those past events as well. Hearing these two Demon Dragons speak of the Jade Emperor like this made him want to argue back. However, given the facts he knew, he could only remain silent.
“What’s wrong? Got nothing to say? If it weren’t for you all, how would we be in this situation? You live lavishly in your court while we dragons! We Aquatic Race! Have been forced to live in the dark and damp places of the Four Seas for so many years. It’s time for a change in who sits in that court!” The Demon Dragon pressed on aggressively when it saw Shu fall silent.
"Rebellion, mercilessly kill!" Even if the Demon Dragon was right! Even if the court had wronged them! But in Shu's heart, there was only one belief: to strictly obey the Jade Emperor's divine will and eradicate the Demon Dragon! For ten thousand years, Shu had watched as the world underwent countless changes, with the Azure Sea shifting and transforming. Unfairness occurred constantly; perhaps the Jade Emperor had indeed wronged them in the past, but at least during the ten thousand years of his reign, whether in the mortal realm or the Four Seas, everything had been harmonious and peaceful.
Now, however, the dragon clan was unwilling to remain in the Four Seas and had risen in rebellion! Little did they know that in their quest for vengeance, they inadvertently harmed those innocent mortals below.
Previously, it had been said that ancient divine beasts or artifacts born from this land possessed powerful magic. Yet they also had their own lives, a life governed by reason! Shu had long understood that as a star of this realm, his duty was to protect those defenseless mortals. These mortals were nurtured by the Divine Father and Divine Mother.
Fuxi and Nüwa created clay figures to give life to beings on this earth. Those ancient beings illuminated by the brilliance of Father and Mother were destined to care for the lives left behind when Father and Mother transformed into chaos.
In truth, the Big Dipper Seventh Star's duty was neither that of celestial immortals nor of the Western Buddha's teachings; it was a fate predetermined from their birth—to protect the lives of mortals on this earth.
Now that the Demon Dragon rebelled against the court, it was indeed a rebellion against authority. The Big Dipper Seventh Star could have chosen not to intervene. However, this Dragon War would inevitably affect those innocent mortals. When it came to matters involving mortals, the Big Dipper Seventh Star had no choice but to lend a helping hand. This was the principle Shu insisted upon! This was also the duty he bore.
After hearing Shu's words, the two Demon Dragons raised their massive heads and charged at him. Since their magic could not match that of this seemingly weak Star Lord before them, they could only rely on their formidable dragon bodies to fight him to the death.
In a flash of lightning and thunder, Shu subdued both dragon heads. In his grasp, despite their furious roars, the two dragons struggled against him like a giant wave crashing against rocks, trying desperately to break free.
Shu knew their intentions all too well; he exerted even more strength to firmly grip their heads, preventing them from escaping even an inch.
The two sides remained locked in this stalemate when suddenly an aged voice echoed through the air, "Aoyin, Aoguang, you have truly brought shame upon our dragon clan!" (To be continued.)
