Yama's Wedding
"What is going on?" Yao Guang questioned Mo Yi, who was standing beside him. "Who is this?" As he looked at Mo Yi, he noticed that Mo Yi was also supporting another person.
"Thunder Formation." Xue immediately recognized the formation. Who had set such a malicious trap? Jun Ruo was already a soul entity; if she were trapped here, the formation would continuously lash her body with lightning until her soul was gradually absorbed by it. The pain was unimaginable.
Xue watched Jun Ruo inside the formation, desperately fighting against the lightning. However, her resistance would ultimately lead to mutual destruction with the formation; her soul was far too weak. There was no way she could break free from such a trap.
The national master was still desperately forming hand seals, hoping to retract his formation. Faced with Yao Guang's unreasonable behavior, he no longer had the energy to argue and could only glare fiercely at Yao Guang.
In contrast, Mo Yi spoke up to Yao Guang, "Do not be rude; this is our national master. Shouldn't you show some respect?"
Mo Yi's words amused Yao Guang. He was a deity; what was a national master? At most, he was just a follower of his. The idea of bowing to him made Yao Guang laugh inwardly, fearing that the national master couldn't handle such an honor.
Yao Guang's disdain was evident in his gaze towards Mo Yi, but in this situation, he found himself powerless against Yao Guang.
Xue observed the scene before him and flew toward the formation, stopping mid-air.
This simple action astonished both Mo Yi and the national master. The national master, having seen many things in his life, noticed that Xue emanated waves of golden light. This golden light was different from Mo Yi's; it was the light of an immortal. Could this man be a half-immortal? He had seen such radiance before on his master and fellow disciples. The poor national master had always dreamed of becoming an immortal but had never encountered true immortals like Xue and Yao Guang. In his understanding, the highest he could aspire to was to possess a half-immortal physique.
Now, the national master's attention was completely captivated by Xue. The golden light was so beautiful that it was hard to look away. He greedily gazed at it, wishing it could be his.
At this moment, Xue did not notice the national master's expression; he focused intently on Jun Ruo within the formation. He activated his magic and directed it toward the sky above the formation. The two forces collided, producing brilliant golden sparks. Xue's power swirled in mid-air, gradually expanding until it covered a portion of the night sky, tightly wrapping around the Thunder Formation as if draping it in a new layer of clothing—inside there were flashes of lightning and thunder while outside shone with golden brilliance. Jun Ruo felt this dual pressure and let out a piercing cry, fear evident in her eyes as she looked up at the descending golden light. This radiance affected her even as a ghostly being.
A layer of golden light pierced through the Thunder Formation and descended upon Jun Ruo's head, carrying Xue's divine power like a spider's web ensnaring its prey from all directions, leaving her nowhere to escape. Realizing she could no longer resist, Jun Ruo found herself in utter disarray.
"Xue, what are you doing?" Seeing this situation unfold, Yao Guang asked in confusion. Wasn't Xue supposed to be here to save Jun Ruo? What was happening now?
"I can only use this method to separate Jun Ruo's soul from this formation; otherwise, when I retract it, she will be absorbed along with it. Although this will cause some harm to her soul, it's still the best option compared to others," Xue explained to Yao Guang.
Yao Guang nodded in understanding.
Xue continued to channel his power into the formation. Before long, a crack appeared in the formation, and taking advantage of this opportunity, he pulled Jun Ruo out. As soon as Jun Ruo emerged, she collapsed onto the ground; the earlier clash of souls had exhausted all her strength. Xue slowly descended back to the ground.
"You, you all!!" The shock in Mo Yi's heart was evident as he watched Xue effortlessly break the formation.
Yao Guang rushed over to support Jun Ruo, who looked weak and disoriented.
"Are you okay?" Yao Guang asked with concern, noticing Jun Ruo's frail state.
"I'm fine!" Jun Ruo felt grateful towards Yao Guang and Xue. She had been observing these two, and she had seen the way the national master had acted earlier. The formation that even the esteemed national master couldn't reclaim was easily resolved by Xue. Her decision to join them at the Bandit Hideout now seemed like a very wise choice.
"I don't know how to address you." The national master's thoughts had shifted away from Jun Ruo; he had found someone else who intrigued him even more than she did.
Xue ignored the national master and walked straight towards Yao Guang and Jun Ruo. He had noticed the dark aura surrounding the national master from afar. Although he appeared to be a refined cultivator, that dark energy was not something a true practitioner should possess. Such an aura indicated either secretive cultivation of evil techniques or a history of killing too many people. Regardless of which it was, Xue had no interest in knowing. In his view, everyone must eventually die, and all actions taken in this world would be judged in his Yama's Hall.
"Yao Guang, take Jun Ruo and let's go." Xue wanted to avoid any further interaction with anyone here. He understood enough about the situation; it was likely that the national master was behind everything, using his identity to deceive Mo Yi into helping him achieve his goals.
"Stop right there! How dare you act so recklessly in front of the national master! Hurry up and beg for mercy!" Mo Yi's furious voice came from behind them. For some reason, seeing Jun Ruo rescued brought him a sense of relief, but when he saw Yao Guang trying to take her away, an uncomfortable feeling crept into his heart. He couldn't think of a good reason to keep them there and could only temporarily rely on the authority of the national master.
Hearing this, the previously weak Jun Ruo pushed Yao Guang's hand away and turned to face Mo Yi. "I always thought that even if you never loved me, I would still be your formally married wife, and you would at least have some semblance of marital affection."
"Wife? Ha! You forget that wedding was merely a means for me to eliminate you," Mo Yi rasped. He reminded himself that everything he did under the national master's orders was right and for the sake of the Mo Family's legacy. There were no 'what ifs' or alternatives; he could not allow any differences—such costs were beyond what he could bear.
"So even though we are officially married, I, Xiao Junru, am nothing more than someone you wish to kill."
"Indeed!" To convince others and himself, Mo Yi responded without hesitation.
Jun Ruo smiled faintly. "Truly, the royal family is heartless. With you being this way and me being this way, how could I possibly win against you?" Those heartbreaking words reminded her of when she first met Mo Yi—when they would drink and paint together every day, living carefree lives! Mo Yi had once held her tightly, repeatedly saying, "A graceful lady is a gentleman's delight." Looking back now, it seemed true; she had indeed been a graceful lady to him. Unfortunately, she had never truly been his graceful lady.
Those once-sweet words lingered in her ears, but the man before her now felt like a stranger she no longer recognized.
Jun Ruo felt as if the face of Mo Yi—once etched in her heart—was now lost to her forever; it became blurred and indistinct until it transformed into someone she didn't know at all.
"Third Prince, do not be disrespectful to Celestial Being." The national master, who had been greedily watching Xue from the side, spoke up to reprimand Mo Yi for his earlier disrespect towards Xue.
He cared little for Mo Yi and Jun Ruo's romantic entanglements; in his eyes, there was only Xue's figure. Everything around him held no significance.
"National Master?" Mo Yi looked at him in shock upon hearing the accusation. How could the National Master suddenly speak up for them? And what did he mean by "Celestial Being"?
"Celestial Being, we were blind and offended you," the National Master said, bowing slightly to Xue as an apology.
Yao Guang felt nothing but disgust at the National Master's flattery.
"Xue, let's go," Yao Guang said, grabbing Xue's hand, eager to leave this place that made her feel so uncomfortable.
Xue allowed Yao Guang to pull her away without resistance.
"You!" The National Master's pride was evident as he faced Yao Guang's dismissive attitude after all his attempts to appease them. Even if he had the status of a demigod, he was still a dignified National Master of a nation. He had already shown great magnanimity by not holding their offenses against them, yet they showed no gratitude for his leniency. Anger surged within him.
"I—I don't care what you think. I just don't like you, so you'd better stay away from us." The smell emanating from the National Master made Yao Guang extremely uncomfortable, reminiscent of decaying flesh. She had no intention of being polite and spoke her mind bluntly.
"Since you refuse my goodwill, don't blame me for being rude," the National Master retorted. It was the first time someone had spoken to him like this. He was used to being revered and held in high esteem. His earlier courtesy towards Xue was merely due to her demigod appearance. Now, with Yao Guang's defiance, he was genuinely enraged.
The National Master's face turned crimson with anger as he swept his Whisk through the air. "No one is leaving today."
The Whisk expanded unexpectedly, blocking the path ahead of Yao Guang and Xue. (To be continued.)
