Yama's Wedding
Xue looked at Yao Guang, whose eyes were still red, feeling truly confused. No wonder people in the mortal realm say that women are made of water. That day, Xue was very happy, but Yao Guang cried for a long time. It seemed that since the moment they met, Yao Guang had been constantly crying.
" Xue, today is your first time out with us. Just watch for now; you don't need to do anything," Jun Ruo said as she walked over with Xue.
Xue nodded. Yao Guang thought to herself that she never expected that being a robber would require such a gradual learning process.
"Don't worry, I will take good care of you."
Hearing such a loud voice, Yao Guang knew it must be Old Five again.
Sure enough, when Yao Guang turned around, she saw Old Five's honest face grinning at her and Xue.
"Old Five, don’t you have anything better to do?" Yao Guang said helplessly.
"Nope," Old Five replied seriously, making Yao Guang roll her eyes dramatically.
"Hey, what do you mean by that?" Old Five asked, looking at Yao Guang's expression.
Yao Guang turned and walked ahead, while Old Five followed behind, calling out repeatedly, "Hey, can you clarify what you mean?"
Xue watched the two of them and couldn't help but laugh. This Old Five was rare in that he still retained a childlike heart.
Jun Ruo listened to the cheerful voices of Yao Guang and Old Five from behind and felt envious. Although Old Five was carefree and blunt, Jun Ruo admired his simple-mindedness. He was the strongest here but also the most innocent; it was truly remarkable that such innocence could be preserved.
For the past few days, Jun Ruo had been repeatedly dreaming the same dream. The scenes in the dream never changed; it was always the same shade of red. Although she couldn't feel the burning heat, Jun Ruo sensed it must be painful. This dream had been troubling her, and if possible, she wished she would never have to experience it again.
“Head of the Family, it’s almost time.”
Hearing the reminder from those around him, Jun Ruo snapped back to reality. Forget it; there was no point in overthinking these matters. It was better to let things unfold naturally.
What mattered most now was that this robbery must not go wrong.
For some reason, an unsettling feeling lingered in Jun Ruo's heart, as if something bad was about to happen.
“Alright, you all spread out and find a good hiding spot. Xue, you and your wife stay with me.” After issuing the command, everyone dispersed.
Xue and Yao Guang also found a relatively concealed place to hide.
Soon, the sound of hooves echoed from a distance.
Xue and Yao Guang exchanged glances. “They’re coming.”
Sure enough, not long after, a merchant caravan of about ten people slowly approached, carrying several large boxes. It was clear they were taking great care to protect those boxes.
“Shh.” A sharp whistle pierced the air.
With that whistle, Jun Ruo and the villagers charged down. Seeing this, Yao Guang and Xue also rushed forward.
“Who are you? What do you want?” The man at the front saw so many people and immediately trembled in fear.
The merchants quickly surrounded the boxes, forming a protective circle around them.
“Leave those boxes behind, and I might spare your lives.” Jun Ruo swaggered out from behind the crowd.
Seeing Jun Ruo's appearance, Yao Guang couldn't help but recall the time when she and Xue were robbed by Jun Ruo. It was almost as if nothing had changed.
"Hmph, we'll see if you have the ability," said a figure resembling a Bounty Hunter, perched on his horse.
"Then let's give it a try and see if you make it back alive today," Jun Ruo replied, amused by the young Bounty Hunter's bravado. The youthful face of the Bounty Hunter was filled with disdain. Jun Ruo was unfazed; ever since she took over the Bandit Hideout, she hadn't encountered any worthy opponents. Anything she set her sights on that passed through her Black Wind Stronghold was bound to stay with her.
"Kill!" The two sides immediately plunged into battle.
This was the first time Yao Guang witnessed such a scene. Well, perhaps aside from the first encounter with Xue, which had led to a massacre due to her own actions.
The slaughter before her now was terrifying. Those who had been amiable in the Bandit Hideout were now wearing fierce expressions as they mercilessly killed those around them. It was then that Yao Guang realized she had truly entered the den of bandits.
Yao Guang and Xue stood atop a hill, watching the chaos unfold below.
Soon enough, even without Xue's assistance, the tide of battle began to turn decisively. Jun Ruo and her group had corralled all the remaining survivors together.
"How about it? Do you still want to keep your life?" Jun Ruo had deliberately spared the previously arrogant Bounty Hunter during the fight.
The Bounty Hunter knelt on the ground, his face ashen. He hadn't expected this woman to be so formidable. Although he hadn't been in the business for long, he had never suffered such a significant loss at the hands of a woman before. "I admit my skills are lacking. You can kill or torture me as you wish." Accepting his defeat graciously, he acknowledged his loss.
"Since you admit your inferiority, you may leave," Jun Ruo said nonchalantly.
"You're really going to let me go?" The Bounty Hunter asked incredulously.
"What? You don't want to leave?" Jun Ruo thought this Bounty Hunter was quite a man. After all, they were merely seeking wealth; he was just trying to make a living. There was no deep-seated hatred between them, so why kill him? Jun Ruo never targeted people like him.
"Even if you let me go today, I won't thank you for it, although you are indeed impressive," the Bounty Hunter replied defiantly.
Jun Ruo looked at the young face of the Bounty Hunter, still defiant despite his youth. Such a young life seemed a pity to waste.
"Just go," Jun Ruo said, offering no argument. After all, who didn't have a youthful time in their life?
"What about them?" The Bounty Hunter stood up and glanced at the people still kneeling on the ground, directing his question at Jun Ruo.
"You can leave if you want. What happens to these people has nothing to do with you, or are you unwilling to walk away?" Jun Ruo casually waved the knife in her hand. Seeing her kindness was surprising; if it weren't for the Bounty Hunter's youth, she wouldn't have let him go so easily, especially since he was trying to plead for others.
Upon hearing Jun Ruo's words, the Bounty Hunter's face turned pale, and he walked away in despair.
Yao Guang observed the Bounty Hunter; that was indeed the wise choice. If he had stayed, it would have been of no help and would only add another life lost.
"You can't just leave!"
"Help us!"
The people still on the ground shouted as they saw the Bounty Hunter preparing to leave alone.
"Shut up!" Jun Ruo shouted loudly.
Hearing their cries, the Bounty Hunter did not look back, but his steps became unsteady as he walked away.
Once he was out of sight, Jun Ruo turned her attention back to those on the ground.
"What about the merchant?" Jun Ruo asked, not looking at the goods but posing another question.
The people on the ground looked at each other, unsure of how to respond.
"You can answer me once you've thought it through," Jun Ruo said calmly, sitting down and observing the people on the ground.
"I really don't know anything. We're just responsible for transporting the goods; we don't know anything else," one of the individuals, who appeared to be a servant, replied.
Jun Ruo narrowed her eyes at him. Under her gaze, the man's forehead was beaded with sweat, and he lifted his sleeve to wipe it away.
This action puzzled both Xue and Yao Guang, and even the people from the Bandit Hideout were confused.
Why was Jun Ruo taking her time interrogating these individuals after having already captured a Bounty Hunter? What was she trying to accomplish?
In the next moment, Jun Ruo swung her knife, and before anyone could react, the head of the man who had just spoken rolled to her feet.
Stepping on the severed head, Jun Ruo looked down at the terrified group and asked, "Where is your master?"
Everyone was startled by this sudden turn of events.
Yao Guang watched Jun Ruo in front of him, feeling a chill slowly rising from deep within. (To be continued.)
