Yama's Wedding
“Xue, are we really not going to get out of here?” Yao Guang asked Xue.
Since leaving that old man, they had walked for a long time, and all around them was a vast expanse of white.
Xue ld Yao Guang's hand, feeling anxious inside but trying not to show it.
“We will get out, Yao Guang. Don't worry, I promise we can make it,” Xue reassured Yao Guang.
“Xue, maybe we should go back and ask that old man again…” Yao Guang murmured.
Xue looked at the endless path ahead. Here, they couldn't use any spells, and he had no way to sense how large this place really was. It seemed they had no choice but to return and ask that old man.
“Alright,” Xue agreed to Yao Guang's suggestion.
So the two of them could only retrace their steps, and from a distance, they saw the old man still sleeping there.
“Hey, old man, wake up,” Yao Guang said rudely as he kicked the old man to rouse him.
“What’s wrong? You’re back again!” The old man opened his eyes and looked at the two who had returned without any annoyance.
“Senior, we hope you can tell us how to get out of here,” Xue asked the old man again, hoping he would provide them with an answer.
"Child, as long as you are willing to stay here with me, after twenty years, I will naturally tell you how to leave!" the old man said with a smile.
"Senior, aside from this matter, I can promise you other things," Xue said.
"However, aside from this matter, I do not wish for you to do anything else. I have been alone for too long and only want someone to chat with. Since you have come in and managed to reach me, it is our fate. Looking at you, it is clear you are not ordinary people; these mere twenty years will be but a fleeting moment for you," the old man suddenly spoke with a hint of loneliness.
"Yao Guang, come here and sit down," Xue called Yao Guang over to sit beside the old man.
Neither the old man nor Yao Guang knew what Xue intended to do and looked at him in confusion. Without hesitation, Xue sat down directly. Seeing this, Yao Guang could only lean against Xue and sit down as well.
"In the realm of illusion lies Bodhi; it seems a celestial being has fallen here. Emptiness is void, and void is emptiness; emptiness comes from void, and void comes from emptiness." This poem has circulated among the people for ages. I believe you are the Void Daoist mentioned in it," Xue dusted off his clothes and said.
"Haha, it has been a long time since anyone called me that name. Child, well done," the Void Daoist replied with some surprise upon hearing Xue's words. It had been many years since he had heard anyone refer to him like that.
Yao Guang had never heard of this title "Void Daoist," so she was naturally puzzled.
Seeing Yao Guang's confusion, Xue continued, "A thousand years ago, there was a wayward immortal who appeared in the court. He prided himself on being carefree and unrestrained while dealing with matters. Although he ascended to become an immortal, he was known for his reckless behavior and lack of diligence in his cultivation. Later on, for reasons unknown, he was banished from the court and stripped of his immortal status." Xue briefly explained to Yao Guang.
"So you are that immortal!" Yao Guang tilted her head and glanced at the Void Daoist.
"You finally got it right, girl," the Void Daoist continued. "Why? Hehe, a place like the court cannot accommodate the true goodness and beauty of the mortal world. That is the reason; because I am different from them, they cannot tolerate me, so they simply made me disappear before their eyes." The Void Daoist smiled slightly as he looked around.
"What’s going on?" Yao Guang felt that this Void Daoist must have a story behind him. She was always curious about such stories. Looking at the Void Daoist's demeanor and considering her own lack of fondness for the court, Yao Guang felt that at least emotionally speaking, she and this Void Daoist were kindred spirits. She temporarily set aside her feelings about the old man's disrespect due to age.
Xue noticed Yao Guang's curious expression and realized that she had clearly stopped being hostile towards the Void. That was just how Yao Guang was; her dislike for someone could change quickly, just as easily as her affections could shift with a moment of kindness from others. Fortunately, those whom Yao Guang genuinely cared for were all sincere in their feelings towards her.
"Are you curious?" the Void asked, observing Yao Guang nodding, her eyes filled with a desire to know. "But I don't want to share."
At that moment, Yao Guang's feelings were truly indescribable. She was so eager to learn more, yet the Void seemed to be teasing her. The way he had asked was clearly intentional, and Yao Guang puffed out her cheeks in frustration, feeling deflated.
"Hahahahaha..." The Void laughed at Yao Guang's reaction, feeling immensely pleased. This girl was simply a bundle of joy, which only strengthened the Void's resolve to keep both of them around. With their company, he wouldn't feel so lonely in this world.
Yao Guang now understood that the Void was just a playful old child, probably a bit unhinged from being alone for too long. Seeing him laugh so heartily, she could only cast a pleading glance towards Xue for help.
