Yama's Wedding
Xiao Yao Hao awoke from his memories, recalling Liu Qing, and his heart felt as if a gentle breeze had passed through, delicate and warm. The time spent with Liu Qing was a memory he would never wish to erase from his life. It was precisely because of such deep feelings that after Liu Qing's departure, he was even more reluctant to think about it. Why had he so easily given her up in that final moment? In what kind of despair did Liu Qing leave this world? Every time he thought of this, Xiao Yao Hao wished he could leave with her, but he still had things to do. He had not avenged Liu Qing, and he had no face to meet her.
However, just as Xue had mentioned, Liu Qing was about to be reincarnated. From the ecstatic realization that Liu Qing was so close by, Xiao Yao Hao suddenly felt as if he were in hell. If he did not take this opportunity to see Liu Qing, would it mean he would never see her again? Would it truly be the last time?
"I want to see her just once, just from a distance. I don't need to meet her; I just want to look at her," Xiao Yao Hao pleaded with Xue. For some reason, looking at this unfathomable man before him did not make him feel uneasy; he knew Xue would agree and that he could help him. He would fulfill this request for him—just to see Liu Qing from afar. Once this thought emerged in his heart, Xiao Yao Hao felt as if he were going mad, desperate for an outlet.
"Just one glance? You don't want to meet her?" Xue asked Xiao Yao Hao.
"Yes, just one glance." Just one glance would be enough. Liu Qing chose to forget the past; why should he make her remember those unhappy things before her reincarnation? If they met, how could he face her? He had no dignity left to appear before Liu Qing!
Xiao Yao Hao's insistence left Xue with no choice. Since he only wished to see Liu Qing from a distance, then let him have that. Xue could only do this much. Everyone's path is predetermined in some way, yet ultimately it is still one they walk themselves. People love gods, but even gods cannot save everyone in this vast world.
"Alright, follow me," Xue said as he jumped down first, with Xiao Yao Hao closely following.
Though unsure of how Xue would allow him to see Liu Qing, Xiao Yao Hao felt a mix of excitement and sorrow within him. Would he really get to see Liu Qing soon? The thought made him feel both eager and apprehensive.
At that time, he had been seriously injured. Since their first meeting when Liu Qing saved him, he had woken up only to be overwhelmed by her presence. Every moment lying in bed was filled with her incessant teasing until he eventually grew accustomed to being teased by Liu Qing.
"Hey, my woman! You have the ability; don’t just take advantage of me verbally!" After half a month of this back-and-forth, Xiao Yao Hao realized that while Liu Qing was bold in words, she wouldn’t dare act on them if it came down to it. Occasionally, Xiao Yao Hao would retort verbally at Liu Qing.
"You think I’m afraid? I’m just waiting for you to recover! Once you're healed, we’ll see if I dare!" Liu Qing waved her fist as if trying to prove something loudly.
"Haha, alright! I’ll be waiting for you! Just don’t run away when the time comes!" Xiao Yao Hao could tell that she was merely pretending to be fierce; her bravado was limited to words alone.
"Hmph! Don’t worry; I won’t run away," Liu Qing insisted stubbornly.
Seeing the way her eyes darted around made Xiao Yao Hao realize she must be plotting something again. How had he been fooled by her bold demeanor back then? It was truly a miscalculation; Xiao Yao Hao found himself both amused and annoyed as he looked at Liu Qing.
"Don’t call me ‘girl’! You’re not much older than me! My name is Liu Qing—remember it!" She pointed at herself and emphasized each syllable of her name.
This only made Xiao Yao Hao laugh harder. "Hahaha!" He laughed so hard that it pulled at his wound. "Cough cough cough." This laughter turned into sorrow as blood seeped from his injury.
"Hey! Are you an idiot? Why are you laughing so much? You’re making me worry about your recovery! I was planning on selling you off once you got better! Now look at you wasting my food and needing more medicine! Why did I even bother bringing you back..."
Xiao Yao Hao watched Liu Qing, who was incessantly complaining, and thought to herself that this girl was truly a peculiar person. Despite her complaints, the moment she saw her own wound bleeding, she hurriedly grabbed the medicine.
"Look at you, blood is oozing out! Can you stop smiling like an idiot?" Liu Qing scolded Xiao Yao Hao while deftly changing the bandage.
Xiao Yao Hao couldn't help but smile even more as she watched Liu Qing's busy little head in front of her. On a whim, she raised her hand and gently patted Liu Qing's head. Both of them froze at that moment. Xiao Yao Hao was unsure of what had come over her; she just felt compelled to touch Liu Qing's soft hair, which smelled faintly of grass.
Liu Qing, who had been focused on her task, was caught off guard by the sudden touch. Ever since her master passed away, no one had patted her head like that. For a moment, her mind went blank.
The two stared at each other until Xiao Yao Hao suddenly exclaimed, "Ouch!"
It turned out that while Liu Qing was dazed, she accidentally dropped the medicine container onto Xiao Yao Hao's wound. Now, what had almost been bandaged properly became even worse, necessitating a complete re-dressing.
The atmosphere between them became somewhat awkward. However, this time the bandaging went smoothly. After finishing, Liu Qing said, "You should rest well," and hurriedly left.
Lying on the bed, Xiao Yao Hao watched as Liu Qing clearly fled in a panic and couldn't help but chuckle softly. Coming down the mountain this time had truly brought her a treasure—no, it was more accurate to say she had stumbled upon a treasure.
"Here we are," Xue's voice pulled Xiao Yao Hao from her reverie.
Looking at the courtyard before her, she realized this was the secret base Liu Qing had found when she first entered the mansion. If it weren't for Liu Qing, she probably wouldn't have known that such a place existed in the mansion.
Liu Qing loved this courtyard immensely—not for any particular reason but because it was filled with many unknown flowers that bloomed beautifully despite being untended.
"Xiao Yao Hao, look! This courtyard is so beautiful; these flowers are stunning!" Liu Qing exclaimed excitedly to the somewhat impatient Xiao Yao Hao.
Pulled along by an enthusiastic Liu Qing, Xiao Yao Hao had initially hoped for something remarkable but felt disappointed when they arrived at this unknown courtyard filled with wildflowers that lacked any organized layout or precious varieties.
"Liu Qing, if you want to see flowers, there are many precious varieties in the garden that are far more beautiful than these," Xiao Yao Hao patiently explained to Liu Qing.
"No, no, no! It's not the same. Xiao Yao Hao, look at these flowers!" Liu Qing released Xiao Yao Hao's hand and jumped into the flower patch. "Take a good look!"
Liu Qing's passionate words made Xiao Yao Hao glance back at the array of flowers before her. However, after examining them closely, she still couldn't discern what made these flowers special. The only difference seemed to be that they were more chaotic than those in the garden and perhaps there were more varieties since many of them were unidentifiable to her.
"Liu Qing, I really can't see what's different about them," Xiao Yao Hao said helplessly to Liu Qing.
Liu Qing blinked her eyes and said, "I think you're really foolish; you can't even see something so obvious." She walked into the flower bushes and casually patted a flower. "Look at these flowers here; they are natural. What’s so beautiful about the flowers in the garden? They grow just to cater to your preferences. Here, they grow for themselves." Liu Qing took a deep breath of the flower in front of her and continued, "See, the flowers here bloom in all shapes and forms; they represent the most original and purest state of every living being."
Xiao Yao Hao looked at Liu Qing, who seemed like a child. No matter which flower was the most beautiful, in his eyes at that moment, amidst the vibrant blossoms, the Red-Clad Woman was the most beautiful flower in his heart.
But ever since Liu Qing died, it seemed he had never returned to this courtyard. The courtyard before him was no longer as beautiful as it once was; the flowers that had bloomed so brilliantly were gone. Perhaps a life that was too free and too pure was not suited to survive in this manor; this estate had bound their freedom and drained their vitality.
Xue took a deep look at Xiao Yao Hao and asked, "Are you ready?"
"Yes." Just one more glance, one more look at that vibrant woman who had once been part of his life.
"Alright, close your eyes."
Xiao Yao Hao obediently closed his eyes, feeling a flash of light before him.
"Open your eyes now; it's done," Xue reminded Xiao Yao Hao.
When he opened his eyes again, it seemed nothing had changed in the world before him; everything looked just as it did before he closed them.
Xiao Yao Hao surveyed his surroundings, not missing a single corner.
