Yama's Wedding
“She is the taboo of the Mansion, but I miss her so much.” Roux slowly shared the story of this old acquaintance.
Roux remembered it was more than a year ago when Xiao Yao Hao brought a girl back from outside the villa.
Xiao Yao Villa was not just a name; it truly lived up to its reputation as a place of freedom. The people in the Mansion were very close and caring towards each other. Xiao Yao Hao was the eldest brother, and although he usually appeared cold, he treated his half-siblings quite well. As Roux spoke, a hint of nostalgia shone in his eyes. “Actually, big brother wasn’t like this before. Even though he didn’t interact much, I knew he still considered us his siblings, and he was very kind, nothing like he is now.”
“What happened?” It was surprising that such an annoying guy could still have someone speak well of him.
“Later…” Roux forced a smile that looked bitter.
After that girl entered the villa, everyone was very happy. Seeing how Xiao Yao Hao cherished her, everyone tacitly acknowledged her as the future mistress of the villa. As time passed and they got to know her better, they grew even fonder of the girl. She was beautiful, cheerful, and treated the servants kindly. Moreover, she loved to laugh, and everyone in the villa was extremely satisfied with her. Even the then Matriarch, Xiao Yao Hao’s mother, urged him to marry her soon.
Just as they were joyfully preparing for the wedding in the villa, no one expected that an accident would occur.
“What kind of accident?” Seeing Roux’s calm demeanor, Yao Guang urged him to continue.
“Yao Guang,” although it was just two words, Yao Guang noticed Xue frowning at him. He could only smile awkwardly at Roux, signaling that he would listen quietly without interrupting.
With Yao Guang’s assurance, Xue turned his gaze back to Roux, indicating for him to continue.
“The Matriarch died,” Roux said. “And she died in that girl’s room.” Yao Guang instinctively gasped but quickly covered his mouth. He caught Xue glancing at him and hurriedly returned a smile. Xue glanced at him before turning away expressionlessly. What was that? He had been good; not even a smile for him.
The Matriarch had gone to discuss the arrangements for Yama's Wedding with her because the girl was an orphan. The Matriarch specifically sought her opinion, which showed the importance placed on her by the male side. However, no one expected that the Matriarch would die in her room.
The maidservants who followed saw the girl rush forward with a knife, and no one expected that someone who had always spoken kindly would suddenly stab them. The people around could only watch in shock as the Matriarch fell to the ground.
By the time everyone rushed over, the Matriarch was already dead, and all the attendants pointed at the girl.
Even now, Rou found it hard to recall that scene.
The girl had once spoken to her so warmly, "Sister Rou, let me take you out to play in the world." "Sister Rou, I made this snack myself. I remember you like rose-flavored ones. Try it; it's really delicious." Though these were just everyday moments, her gentle demeanor and respect for Rou's preferences made Rou feel a warmth she had never experienced before. So she believed the girl must be a good person. No matter what, she couldn't believe that she would kill the Matriarch.
Moreover, Xiao Yao Hao loved her dearly. Yet faced with so many accusations and evidence, even Xiao Yao Hao had to accept that it was indeed she who killed the Matriarch.
Soon after, for reasons unknown, the Elders of the family rushed over. Even Xiao Yao Hao could not stand firm against them. With the Matriarch gone, those in the family began to assert their authority, feeling free to trample on this house that had lost its backbone.
"Do you know? When the Matriarch was here, who would dare to barge in like this?"
Many people entered—many whom Rou had never seen before. The Matriarch's body lay in the Hall, while the elders of the family sat in the grand hall, pointing fingers at them.
They insisted on bringing the murderer to justice and imposing severe punishment to deter future generations.
Even though her elder brother argued passionately, those people still ordered the servants to bind the girl.
From her initial panic and despair to her later calmness—or perhaps it was a heart turned to ashes.
Rou remembered when they brought the girl over; her face was ashen. But when she saw her elder brother kneeling below, her eyes lit up for a moment as she smiled at him and asked, "Do you believe me? I didn't do it."
But their elder brother just stared blankly at her, lowering his head, "I don't know, I don't know."
Roux saw that the once blooming smile on her face suddenly withered, and then she no longer resisted. She allowed others to push her around. Meanwhile, her elder brother was still caught up in his own turmoil.
Later, they tied her to a pillar as a warning to everyone. In truth, it was merely for show, to let others know that in Xiao Yao Villa, apart from the Matriarch, they also held an unshakeable position.
Eighty-one lashes were delivered while everyone watched her suffer. At that time, the elder brother had always lived under the protection of the Matriarch. Although he would eventually inherit the villa, he was still too young then, lacking any strength to resist. Perhaps it was because this incident came so suddenly that no one had time to react. Maybe deep down, the elder brother believed that the girl had killed his mother. Thus, his resistance was insignificant until he was knocked unconscious and taken away.
When the elder brother woke up, the girl was already barely breathing. A group of people came in a grand procession and left just as grandly, instructing him to throw the girl's body into a mass grave.
Upon hearing this part of the story, Yao Guang felt an immense pain for the girl and suddenly remembered something. "Wasn't this girl's name Liu Qing?"
"How do you know?" Roux looked at Yao Guang in confusion.
So it really was Liu Qing; no wonder she didn't want to remember.
"So that Liu Qing is me, isn't it?"
Hearing this voice, Yao Guang was taken aback and turned around to see Liu Qing standing at the door, pale-faced and asking them with tears streaming down her cheeks.
