Beneath the brilliant starry sky lay an endless expanse of desert, ancient and timeless, exuding an air of profound history. At that moment, above this desert, a dozen shadows suddenly appeared! These shadows plummeted toward the ground like kites with severed strings.
However, in an instant, a massive figure moved with incredible speed, catching each of the falling forms one by one and gently placing them on the desert floor.
"Cough, cough, cough..." As soon as they landed, a series of coughs erupted.
"Yi..." A woman's voice rang out, filled with deep concern.
"It's nothing, Wen. We need to hurry; they might be able to track my spatial fluctuations!" The group was none other than Lin Yi and his companions. Once top-tier powerhouses, they now found themselves in a state of utter weakness. The only asset they had left was Black and Red.
"But look at them; can they even move?" Li Qiweng shook his head helplessly. The moonlight illuminated their faces, each one pale as death. Their greatest support had vanished, while their enemies loomed large and formidable.
Lin Yi lay almost flat against the sand, the grains beneath him stained red with blood. Even speaking felt exhausting to him, yet he refused to give up.
"Sir, the two of us can transform into a simple flying vehicle, but right now we have nowhere else to go!" Black stepped forward, being one of the strongest forces present. Only he could assist them now.
Lin Yi nodded reluctantly. Soon after, Black and Red began to merge. In the blink of an eye, they transformed into a vehicle resembling a Bulletproof Transport Vehicle! Without hesitation, Lin Yi and the others climbed inside.
"Take us to a more desolate place. It would be best if there are no people around!" Lin Yi was uncertain when their pursuers would catch up. To avoid harming innocents, they needed to escape with purpose.
Black acknowledged and led everyone in low-altitude high-speed flight. Meanwhile, Lin Yi's energy continued to wane; he felt he might collapse at any moment.
Gathering his strength, Lin Yi looked at Renesmee and the others. "You all have flying abilities; you should leave first. If you can find Reck, do so. If not, hide far away and never come back!"
Renesmee and her companions could fly independently. Even though their energy was suppressed now, flying was instinctual for them—like walking for humans—though their speed was diminished.
"Boss, I won't leave you!" Nicolas declared first. He had always followed Lin Yi; this was his leader's most challenging moment, and he couldn't abandon him now. The resolute expressions on Renesmee's face mirrored his determination. Their looks conveyed to Lin Yi that leaving him behind was simply not an option!
Lin Yi smiled. He felt a sense of relief, but he still shook his head and said, "Don't act impulsively. If you stay here, we might all end up dead. Since you have the ability to leave, then go. The other resistors are still unaware of the truth. You need to tell them!"
"But..." At that moment, even the oldest among them, Tina, felt Lin Yi's determination. However, she didn't want to leave at this time. They had always been lonely as vampires. Finally having a team to live and fight with, they had integrated themselves into it. Now, being forced to leave made them unhappy.
"There’s no 'but.' If it really comes to it, you can go find her; there might still be a chance." Lin Yi sighed, closing his eyes again. Even after just a brief conversation, he felt particularly tired, especially when he thought of her; an inexplicable wave of fatigue washed over him.
Renesmee's expression was serious, but after thinking for a moment, she walked up to Lin Yi and said, "Boss, don’t worry. We will definitely come back to save you!"
After that, no one spoke again. Lin Yi was exhausted, and the others were suppressed and had no energy to talk. Half an hour later, Black and Red had already brought everyone to a place thousands of miles away, and according to Black's tracking, they were in Kenya.
Upon realizing they had arrived in Kenya, Lin Yi smiled bitterly; fate truly was an unavoidable cycle! Soon after, Renesmee took Nicolas, Tina, and the twin brothers and flew away together. Their speed was only slightly faster than ordinary birds.
After excessive consumption of energy, Lin Yi and the others felt an unprecedented hunger. With no other choice, Red stayed behind to guard everyone while Black went in search of food. However, after about ten minutes, Black only managed to find a few dozen dirty-looking round cakes—these were the grass cakes unique to Africa! Kenya was one of the first places ravaged by zombies; it had yet to recover, and most people were barely surviving.
These people now had no choice; even though the round cakes smelled strongly of grass, everyone ate them with gusto. As for Lin Yi, he was growing weaker by the minute and didn’t even have the strength to open his mouth to eat. However, he knew his time was short; when Li Qiweng tried to feed him food, he firmly refused.
Li Qiweng, who had always been resolute, suddenly had tears welling up in her eyes as they streamed down her cheeks. Fortunately, they were still about ten meters away from the others and managed not to let anyone see their current state.
"Yi, we haven't gotten married yet, have we?" Li Qiweng suddenly asked Lin Yi while looking at him. In that moment, Lin Yi seemed to see the carefree days of their student life once again.
"Well, but there are no conditions for that right now," Lin Yi sighed helplessly. The place they found themselves in was nothing but ruins; there wasn’t even a blade of grass around. It was supposed to be springtime when everything bloomed.
"It’s okay; just watch me!" Li Qiweng said with a glimmer in her eyes as she reached down and pulled up two nearby grass roots. Then she gently moved her fingers, and two circular rings appeared in her palm.
With a smile on her face, Li Qiweng lifted Lin Yi's right hand and placed one of the grass rings on his ring finger while putting the other ring on her own left hand's ring finger.
"Will you marry me, my dear?"
"I will!"
"Will you marry me, my dear?"
"I would love to!"
In just a minute, the two of them completed the most important ceremony of their lives in this desolate place. At that moment, memories of the past flooded Lin Yi's mind, and his face was filled with warmth.
Li Qiweng looked at Lin Yi with tenderness. However, she suddenly seemed to remember something, picked up a piece of grass cake, and took a big bite. After chewing for a moment, she suddenly lunged at Lin Yi.
Caught off guard, Lin Yi was knocked down by Li Qiweng. Before he could comprehend what was happening, his lips were pried open. In an instant, the sweet flavor filled his mouth as her soft tongue playfully teased Lin Yi's senses. Then, the grass cake he had just eaten was pushed into his mouth by her.
"Honey, is it good?" Li Qiweng winked at Lin Yi, making even the stars above seem dim in comparison.
"It's delicious! Wifey!" Lin Yi deliberately chewed loudly a few times, his face brimming with happiness.
"Good. Then eat more!" Li Qiweng smiled slightly and began feeding Lin Yi again. This time, Lin Yi did not "let go" of Li Qiweng. Instead, he held her tightly, greedily inhaling her scent.
Suddenly, Lin Yi felt a warm breath slide down his throat into his abdomen. His limbs, which had gradually lost sensation, seemed to regain feeling at that moment.
Subconsciously, Lin Yi continued to kiss Li Qiweng tightly. That comfortable sensation swept over him once more! The intense vitality gave Lin Yi a feeling of rebirth; he even felt as if his strength was about to return.
"What’s happening?" Lin Yi released Li Qiweng. But at that moment, he felt himself drifting away from that comforting vitality that made his soul tremble.
Moments later, Lin Yi suddenly understood that the vitality came from Li Qiweng's body, as the energy she possessed represented an infinite life force in a vibrant green hue. However, she was clearly suppressed and unable to wield her power, so how could she still manipulate this energy?
"That's strange. It felt like the energy within me was flowing toward you just now!" Li Qiweng also sensed something was off. When they had kissed earlier, she realized that the energy she couldn't summon was actually converging into Lin Yi's body.
"How about we try again?" Lin Yi felt that while Li Qiweng might not be able to use her internal energy, he could! Perhaps by channeling this life-representing energy from Li Qiweng, he could break the shackles binding them all.
Li Qiweng nodded and embraced Lin Yi once more, kissing him again. At that moment, even more energy surged wildly toward Lin Yi. In an instant, his injuries began to heal at an astonishing rate, and the poison that had been obstructing the flow of his vital energy seemed to encounter a foe, showing signs of loosening its grip.
Just then, Lin Yi suddenly felt the beauty in his arms tremble as if she were in great discomfort.
"What’s wrong?" As soon as Lin Yi released her, he saw Li Qiweng looking pale and lifelessly at him, her expression startling him.
"My energy... it seems only you can use it now!" Li Qiweng's voice was weak, as if she had just recovered from a serious illness.
Lin Yi had just sensed that he could mobilize his internal energy again, but seeing Li Qiweng in this state, he knew he couldn't continue drawing from her. He looked at her and said slowly, "Forget it; this is fate." He feared that if he kept absorbing her energy, she might lose her life.
