"Divine Race? Long live?" The words echoed in Lin Yi's mind once more, seemingly carrying a different meaning. However, at that moment, Lin Yi felt as if he had become dull-witted, unable to grasp what these words truly meant.
"Long live the Divine Race!"
At that moment, two voices rang out simultaneously. Finally snapping out of his daze, Lin Yi jumped up from his chair and shouted, "You are a Zombie!"
His voice thundered like a clap of thunder in everyone's ears. Zombie—a term so familiar that upon hearing it, various forms of Zombies flashed through their minds.
But how could there be Zombies here? These were all his people; how could a Zombie possibly exist among them? Looking at Lin Yi's incredulous expression, everyone felt a sense of unease. Could there really be Zombies? But where were they? Why hadn’t they noticed?
"President Lin, please don’t say that. Remember, we are the Divine Race, the great Divine Race. And you ants are nothing but discarded trash abandoned by the gods, destined to be our slaves forever!" Wang Kai said with a gentlemanly demeanor as he placed his wine glass on the table and waved his hand lightly.
Wang Bo and Wang Zijun stood behind Wang Kai, their expressions blank and completely unlike their former selves.
"No, you don’t have the aura of a lost one; you can't be a Zombie!" Lin Yi's Psychic Power was no joke. He quickly realized that although these three looked strange, they were indeed not Zombies!
"President Lin. I will reiterate: do not call us Zombies; that is your group's malicious slander against our great Divine Race!" Wang Kai's face showed anger, and Lin Yi recognized that this expression was genuine—Wang Kai was truly angry.
"Thought Imprint!"
At that moment, Li Qiweng spoke slowly and deliberately. Upon hearing her words, Lin Yi finally understood; Li Qiweng was aware of the existence of Thought Imprints since she had once been under such control herself.
"Wang Kai, surrender immediately. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being merciless!" Now aware of the truth, Lin Yi reacted instantly. He knew Wang Kai's strength well; he could definitely defeat him.
However, Wang Kai ignored Lin Yi's warning and instead asked those around him, "Who is interested in joining our Divine Race to help build a great eternal kingdom?"
The crowd exchanged glances. Although they sensed something was off, how could the usually dignified Wang Kai suddenly turn into a Zombie? They were somewhat at a loss. Yet when Wang Kai posed his question, they instinctively began to gather towards Lin Yi.
"What’s this? You’re given such a great opportunity and you don’t cherish it? Then you can only become enemies of our Divine Race!" Wang Kai said with a look of regret on his face, but there was an inexplicable madness gleaming in his eyes.
Seeing Wang Kai still acting as if nothing had changed, Lin Yi raised an eyebrow and prepared to subdue him directly! But in the next moment, he was horrified to discover that he couldn’t summon the energy within him. It felt as if some kind of resistance had met his energy; attempting to call upon it caused excruciating pain throughout his body as if he might explode at any moment.
“How are you feeling, President Lin? Are you experiencing pain all over your body?” Wang Kai asked cheerfully, clapping his hands after noticing Lin Yi's unusual state.
“Yi, what’s wrong with you?” Li Qiweng exclaimed, quickly supporting Lin Yi, who was unsteady on his feet due to the pain.
“We’ve been tricked. I can’t draw on the energy within me right now!” Sweat beads formed on Lin Yi's forehead. At this moment, apart from him, Wang Kai was the strongest in the area. Wang Zijun and Wang Bo were also formidable, rivaling Li Qiweng. It was clear that Wang Kai had completely taken control of the situation.
“This is impossible! When did you make your move?” Wu Hao realized that the energy within him felt as if it had sunk into a quagmire, rendering him unable to summon it.
“Brother Wu Hao, although your mind-reading skills are impressive, when someone thinks a situation is just ordinary, you can’t discern their true thoughts. After all, this is an act of subconsciousness that doesn’t require conscious command!” Wang Zijun had returned to his playful demeanor, but his words sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
“How did you do this?” Lin Yi could only buy time, trying to find a way to contact Reck miles away. Reck was their only hope for salvation.
“It was achieved little by little; it’s a long process. But for the sake of the divine clan’s everlasting cause, these are trivial matters!” Wang Kai sat calmly in his chair, leisurely savoring his food.
“It’s impossible! Toxic substances can’t approach me. I’ve never felt anyone tampering with me!” Lin Yi recalled the events of recent years but couldn’t pinpoint where things had gone wrong.
“Of course, given your strength, even if someone harbored intentions to kill you, you would sense it. We naturally couldn’t plant anything lethal inside you directly. However, you must understand that some non-toxic substances can produce unexpected effects when mixed together. The things you usually consume contain such elements; gradually accumulating them leads to this outcome!”
Wang Kai looked at Lin Yi with satisfaction, seemingly enjoying the panic and anger mixed with helplessness on Lin Yi's face.
“How is that possible? My food has always been prepared by our people…” Lin Yi paused suddenly as a troubling thought lingered in his mind.
“Hahaha! Our people? I used to be one of your people too! But since you want to obstruct the divine clan’s grand plans, I naturally have to eliminate you!” Seeing Lin Yi's expression change, Wang Kai realized he had caught on—he had fallen victim to those he considered allies.
“This thought imprint is indeed quite powerful; who would have thought…” Now Lin Yi couldn’t even believe it himself. Who knew if someone had implanted a thought imprint in him that activated at a critical moment for self-destruction?
“Koala Uncle, let me tell you something: our first conversation was intentional on my part!” At this moment, Wang Zijun looked at Lin Yi and playfully stuck out his tongue. He understood now that from the very beginning, this place was a trap. Tragically for Lin Yi, he realized he had never met the person who orchestrated it all.
Initially, Australia had been overtaken by zombies in an alarmingly short time frame, and Wang Kai—the strongest in Australia—had failed to notice the invasion in time. This was inherently abnormal. However, at that time, Lin Yi was in a dangerous situation and hadn’t thought much about it. He even believed that Wang Kai was trapped while resisting the zombies! In hindsight, all of this seemed like a joke.
Previously, Cook had avoided Wang Kai while taking the position of Mercenary Leader for himself. Perhaps Cook had sensed something at that time, but without evidence, it remained unspoken. Thinking about this, Lin Yi felt increasingly that he was being toyed with; he truly might be played to death by the other party! No matter how solid a fortress is, if there are issues within, it can easily be breached. Lin Yi never imagined that such a dangerous enemy was lurking beside him.
"Is there anyone among you who is also from the divine race? Step forward!" Lin Yi glanced around at the familiar faces. Despite his words, he hoped that such a situation would not actually occur.
At that moment, Tony's expression suddenly changed! Before Lin Yi could react, a flash of white light darted across Tony's neck, and in an instant, Tony's head fell to the ground, rolling under the long table.
"Clap—clap—clap—" At this moment, Wang Kai took the lead in applauding, pulling everyone out of their shock. Tony's headless body slumped to the ground, revealing a slender figure behind him—it was Lulu.
"Lulu! How could it be you!" Ika exclaimed in disbelief, covering her mouth. However, the gentle and understanding Lulu seemed to have transformed into a different person altogether. With blood still staining her hands, she suddenly lunged forward and grabbed Ika, swiftly tossing a black pill into her mouth.
"Cough cough cough... What did you make me eat?" Ika's face turned red as she tried to spit out the pill but found it futile.
"Sister Ika, you've said quite a few bad things about our divine race. However, I've decided to let you join us. Just see how good I can be to you!" Lulu swayed her hips and walked a few steps toward Wang Kai.
"Zombie Virus! You actually made me eat Zombie Virus!" Realizing what had happened, Ika wished she could reach into her stomach to retrieve the pill, but that was clearly impossible. She couldn't even tap into the energy within her body; she was no different from an ordinary person now.
Lin Yi watched as those around him underwent drastic changes, feeling immense pain in his heart. Years of effort seemed to have come to nothing! Lin Yi was unwilling to accept this fate, yet he felt utterly powerless and even feared provoking Wang Kai. After all, outside there were thousands of ordinary people who would all meet their doom with just a wave of Wang Kai's hand.
Noticing Lin Yi's gaze, Wang Kai smugly said, "President Lin, just think about it. If I can tamper with your food, then those people outside certainly won't escape either. But being able to become a member of our divine race will surely make them feel honored; we are the true eternal existence!" (To be continued...)
