The strength of Black and Red had once again been enhanced. As intelligent machines, their power had reached a peak. One could even say they were the true Immortal Bodies; as long as they retained all their memories, even if their mechanical bodies were completely destroyed, they could be revived simply by creating new ones.
Lin Yi had been inside the Absolute Space for over ten minutes. For a showdown between experts, ten minutes was quite a long time. At this moment, the couple felt somewhat bored. Wang Kai was too powerful; without Deman's threat, he effortlessly annihilated dozens of Super Tier Zombies.
Black and Red had only managed to slay five Super Tier Zombies, which paled in comparison to Wang Kai's feats. However, when ten Star Level Zombies attempted to challenge them, they couldn't be bothered to respond. Even though these Zombies understood the importance of teamwork, in the face of absolute power, they could only be crushed.
"Honey, we've both surpassed the peak of Star Level strength, yet we still can't condense a spatial domain!" Red frowned slightly, looking at Black with a face full of grievances. At that moment, they resembled Lin Yi and Li Qiweng more than ever; some people might even mistake them for the two.
Hearing Red's voice, Black sighed helplessly. "There's nothing we can do; after all, we are mechanical beings without Psychic Power, so it's impossible for us to condense a spatial domain!"
Black and Red increasingly viewed themselves as human, mimicking everything about humanity. So when they saw those with Ten-Star Combat Power possessing similar spatial domains, it only added to their frustration. Especially when surrounded by Super Tier Zombies within their own spatial domain, Black and Red were infuriated and used their absolute strength to shatter the opponents' domain.
"It's a pity Lord Charlie was killed by that Deman fellow; otherwise, Lord Charlie would have surely found a way to enhance our power!" Red looked at Black with regret in her mechanical eyes, tears shimmering—though it was merely a simulated effect since she couldn't produce moisture.
"Sir will definitely be able to slay that guy; we must believe in him!" Black waved his fist and glanced toward where Lin Yi had disappeared.
"Actually, Sister Jones could also upgrade the materials on us. Who knows? We might even evolve further... Perhaps I could even have babies then..."
As Red was lost in her fantasies, she suddenly felt her body tighten as Black pulled her in a certain direction.
"What…"
"Sir seems to be injured!" Black interrupted Red's words and leaped toward Lin Yi, who had just fallen from the space. He caught him in his arms.
"Sir, how did you get hurt? What about that Deman monster?" Black looked at Lin Yi anxiously, his tone frantic.
Lin Yi slowly opened his eyes and smiled wryly. He had just felt his strength recovering somewhat and decided to come out but hadn’t anticipated that merely exiting the Absolute Space would consume so much energy that he lacked even the strength to float.
"He’s dead… cough cough…" The impact from his fall seemed to have been too great; as soon as Lin Yi spoke, he couldn’t help but cough several times.
The Black figure let out a breath and said, "Sir, I want to thank Lord Charlie for avenging him."
Upon hearing the Black figure's words, Lin Yi was momentarily taken aback. He slowly slid down from Black's grasp, placing a hand on his shoulder to prevent himself from falling. After all, lying in the arms of an intelligent machine that looked almost identical to him was indeed a strange experience.
At that moment, Lin Yi's mind flashed with the image of Charlie, who had once appeared as a handsome playboy. It was truly a peculiar twist of fate that he had met such an end.
"You all did well!" Lin Yi said, looking at Black and nodding slightly. Just then, Red flew over. Upon hearing Lin Yi's words, she did not blame her husband for leaving her behind for the sake of a man.
Lin Yi turned his gaze toward the battlefield. By now, most of the High-Level Zombies had been dealt with, and many people were engaged in combat with the remaining Zombies that could not fly. As for Reck, he had long since vanished; Lin Yi knew he must be hiding somewhere, especially since Dracula could appear at any moment. Although Dracula was severely injured, it did not mean he was no longer a threat.
Meanwhile, Wang Kai was coordinating the battle on-site. Whenever he encountered Zombies that his side struggled against, he would step in to assist. For those lower-level Zombies and even the High-Level ones, Wang Kai was their nightmare. However, these Zombies had received orders to hold their ground; despite the dire situation, none of them attempted to flee.
Lin Yi hovered in mid-air, slowly recovering his depleted energy. He wasn't truly injured; he just needed to regain some energy, so it didn't take long. After a while, the battle came to an end, and Lin Yi had recovered sufficiently.
"Captain Lin, the Eastern Coast's largest Zombie stronghold, New York Fortress, has been completely breached! All Zombies have been eliminated!" Wang Kai reported joyfully as he stood before Lin Yi. While others were unaware of Lin Yi's true identity, Wang Kai knew it all too well. However, out of confidentiality concerns, he refrained from directly addressing Lin Yi as President.
In this world where strength reigned supreme, no one found it odd that Lin Yi was stronger than Wang Kai. Although Wang Kai held the official title of Vice President and Lin Yi merely had an expired title as Fifth Speaker.
"Does Speaker Wang still have the strength to pursue the remaining Zombies?" Lin Yi asked as his eyes scanned the distance where flames still raged in several places; he knew the battle continued. The time for the final showdown was approaching, and Lin Yi dared not let his guard down.
"As long as Captain Lin gives the order, I believe countless brave men will charge forward without hesitation!" Wang Kai straightened up confidently upon hearing Lin Yi's words.
"Good! We should press on with our remaining strength and completely take North America!" Lin Yi shouted with enthusiasm; if they didn't act now, when would they?
The subsequent battle turned overwhelmingly in their favor as Lin Yi led the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps in clearing out the coastal fortresses. Although North America was vast, most areas were desolate; Zombies had concentrated all survivors within fortresses built from former metropolitan areas. Along North America's coast were only five fortresses across several states; despite their considerable distance apart, before dawn broke, Lin Yi's forces had slaughtered all Zombies within those fortresses!
As dawn broke, Lin Yi announced a two-hour rest before they continued marching toward the next giant fortress: Pittsburgh. When they arrived at Pittsburgh, it was already engulfed in flames from battle.
The people here had already begun to cooperate with the surrounding Resistance to fight back, but the Zombies were still too powerful for them. Even after a night of fierce struggle, they found themselves at a disadvantage.
When Lin Yi arrived at the outskirts of Pittsburgh with the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, many felt a surge of hope. They had heard various stories about Lin Yi and the Blood Envoy during these days, and they were no strangers to this almost mythical team.
"Is that the leader, the former Mercenary King, Mr. Lin Yi?" A sharp-eyed person spotted Lin Yi standing at the forefront, and when he mentioned Lin Yi, his face was filled with reverence.
"No, he is the eternal Mercenary King!" Another older man stood respectfully, as if waiting for Lin Yi's inspection.
"Yes, Lord Charlie said Mr. Lin Yi would come to save us; I didn't expect him to arrive so quickly!" someone else chimed in. At this moment, due to Lin Yi's arrival, the Zombies had no time to manage those within the fortress.
"I wonder where Charlie is. If it weren't for the confidence he gave me, I wouldn't know if I could survive in this damned place!" A somewhat attractive woman brushed her hair back, leaving several men staring in awe. However, her mind was solely focused on how to meet Charlie; that golden-haired man had long captivated her thoughts.
Lin Yi hovered in mid-air, and under his overwhelming presence, the Zombies that had been trying to suppress the rebels within the fortress suddenly halted their movements, fearfully gazing at the powerful figures that had appeared.
"Kill!" Lin Yi uttered a single word lightly, and his mercenaries pounced down like hungry wolves. In less than half an hour, all the Zombies were slaughtered.
Lin Yi's group did not linger at all. After breaching the massive fortress, he simply appointed a highly respected Resistance leader and continued onward to attack the next stronghold.
The journey was relatively uneventful until they reached Nevada, where they unexpectedly encountered a group of humans aiding the Zombies in their assault. Lin Yi did not want to become a butcher; ultimately, it was Lashar and Roots—this pair of twin brothers—who used illusions to control these humans and stop their frenzied actions. To be continued...
