The others exchanged glances, surprised to see that Lin Yi had acquaintances here. However, at that moment, no one spoke; according to their judgment, this place should be a gathering point for a tribe.
"How did you find me?" The dark-skinned young man looked at Lin Yi, revealing a set of white teeth.
Lin Yi smiled and pointed to his head, then to his eyes, saying, "Think a little more and look a little closer, and you'll understand."
The young man nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite. Then he slapped his forehead and said, "Are you here to see the High Priest? But I haven't received any notice; I can't let you in."
Lin Yi's heart sank slightly. Although he wasn't skilled in mental manipulation, with his Psychic Power strength, a slight release of influence should be enough to make an ordinary person act according to his wishes without realizing it. However, this young man, with the combat capability of at most an elite Special Forces soldier, was able to resist his Psychic Power influence, which surprised Lin Yi.
"Alright then, tell your High Priest and your High Priest's friend Gal that Lin Yi has come to visit them." With his Psychic Power probing, Lin Yi knew that the tribe was not far from them; he could afford to wait a little longer.
For now, none of them had released their energy, so they wouldn't be found in the short term. Moreover, this area was filled with dense forests, making it a good hiding place.
"You know Captain Gal? It seems you are not deceiving us. I'll go report this right away!"
Upon hearing Lin Yi mention Gal's name, the young man finally believed him. After all, Gal had always been a low-profile person; even their tribesmen were not very familiar with him. Now that an outsider had called out his name, it seemed highly likely that this outsider was indeed who he claimed to be.
Once the young man left, Lin Yi immediately instructed everyone to remain still and not use any power. Although he didn't know why the other party always discovered him so quickly, he wanted to be fully prepared.
Currently, apart from him, most of the others were injured, especially Nicolas and Renesmee, who were severely hurt. Froeman had lost an arm; even though his life was not in danger, he was gravely weakened. The twin brothers and Tina also needed rest after extensively using their abilities beyond their limits.
About fifteen minutes later, Lin Yi sensed several presences approaching. However, among those presences, the strongest was only at the Three-Star combat level; most had just crossed into Star Level.
With his keen Psychic Power, Lin Yi slightly released it and immediately recognized one of the individuals among them: Pearl Amigal, whom he hadn't seen in years. He looked older than before.
"Is that our National Hero coming up ahead? The king of Mercenaries, Mr. Lin Yi?"
From a distance, Pearl Amigal's strong voice carried over. Even those nearby felt a slight tingling sensation in their ears as they listened.
“Mr. Pearl Amigal, please don’t joke with me. I believe you already know my current situation!” Although this tribe was isolated from the world, Lin Yi knew that as the High Priest, Pearl Amigal must be aware of such matters.
“Hahaha, Mr. Lin is indeed still Mr. Lin. I trust you, Mr. Lin!”
As he spoke, Pearl Amigal's figure appeared in front of everyone. He was still wearing a simple, loose robe that enveloped his entire body. In the darkness, Lin Yi could faintly see the deeper wrinkles on Pearl Amigal's face, as if it had been washed by flowing sand.
Standing beside Pearl Amigal was a middle-aged man wearing a hat. Lin Yi recognized him as Gal, the Gal Officer. However, Gal looked much thinner than before; his physique was now well-proportioned with no excess fat. Gal was also the only one among them with Three-Star Combat Power.
Lin Yi suddenly felt a sense of disconnection, as scenes from four years ago began to overlap with the present. He knew that many things had changed and that some things could never return.
“Thank you!”
Lin Yi deeply bowed to Pearl Amigal and the others. Although Froeman and the others did not know the specifics, they followed suit and bowed as well.
Lin Yi's head was worth ten billion Contribution Points. Pearl Amigal believed in Lin Yi not just because of this loss but also due to the endless trouble it brought him.
“Everyone is too polite. Although I, Pearl Amigal, am old, I am still a reasonable person. I trust you, so it’s not for your gratitude.”
Pearl Amigal took a few steps closer, and the others followed suit. Gal looked at Lin Yi; the once formidable man now had red-rimmed eyes and choked out, “Captain, these past years have been spent listening to your legendary stories. I never expected things to develop into this.”
Lin Yi smiled wryly and said, “The world is unpredictable. Given the current situation, I can only take it one step at a time; their power is too great!”
“I support you!” Pearl Amigal placed his bony hand on Lin Yi's shoulder and spoke with determination.
……
Although the Masai Tribe was isolated from the world, they were not entirely resistant to advanced things from outside. Moreover, Gal had helped them achieve some modernization over the years; their houses were sturdier than before. Many families had modern appliances, although they were still not accustomed to using them most of the time.
What pleased Lin Yi the most was that there were enough medical supplies here, which greatly aided in treating their injuries. Their combat strength was indeed formidable, but they were not invincible and naturally needed healing.
After the inexplicable evolution of Lin Yi's strength, his body's recovery ability became extremely formidable. Although he was injured in the battle with the Handsome Man, he had already recovered quite a bit after resting for a while.
The gathering point of the Masai Tribe had undergone some modern renovations, yet it still retained its primitive charm. The cement houses were hidden within the dense forest, and the surrounding area was indeed a place filled with the sounds of birds and fragrant flowers. Breathing in the air here brought a refreshing sense of tranquility.
"No wonder you don't want to leave, Gal. This place really allows one to find peace."
Lin Yi closed his eyes, savoring this rare moment of quiet. He had just stepped out of his room when Gal followed him outside.
"That's not entirely true. But the reason I stayed is a cliché story. I fell in love with the girl who took care of me, and so I decided to stay." Gal seemed to be reminiscing about the sweet memories from years ago when he first met that girl.
"If I could, I would hope to grow old right here," Lin Yi said, gazing at the azure sky, feeling an unprecedented calmness within.
Perhaps a serene attitude towards life was the best approach. Lin Yi suddenly realized how absurd his past few years had been—killing Zombies only to be hunted down as one himself.
"Actually, I prefer a life like yours—a life worth fighting for is what a man should have. It’s just that my hometown was a ghost town back then. Although the Zombies were eventually driven away, I was just a lonely soul there. This place is my home now, and it always will be." A hint of loneliness appeared on Gal's face as he struggled with his inner thoughts.
Who wouldn't feel nostalgic about their hometown? Yet all his family and friends were lost in that disaster; returning would only bring more sorrow.
Lin Yi nodded. No one truly settles for mediocrity; even in his current state, he knew there would come a time when he would feel out of place.
"How is your wife doing now?" Lin Yi only then noticed that he hadn't seen Gal's wife since arriving.
"She’s expecting now and can’t come out." At this point, a happy smile spread across Gal's dark face.
"Congratulations! I don’t have any good gifts right now, but I'll make it up to you later!"
Just as Lin Yi was about to offer something as a gift, he realized he had nothing on him to give.
At that moment, a pregnant woman in her twenties walked over, her gaze fixed on Gal, her face filled with sweetness. However, she spoke in the tribal dialect, and Lin Yi couldn't understand a word she said.
Gal held the pregnant woman's hand and pointed at Lin Yi, saying a few words. This time, the pregnant woman smiled at Lin Yi and slightly bent her waist, saying, "Hello."
"My wife doesn't speak Esperanto; she only knows a few simple phrases!" Gal said with a somewhat awkward smile. However, he couldn't argue against his wife's choice to maintain traditional ways.
"It's alright," Lin Yi replied with a smile to Gal's wife. "You are very fortunate!"
"Thank you." The young woman clearly understood Lin Yi's words, her lips curving into a bright smile.
With an apologetic look, Gal said to Lin Yi, "It's windy outside, so I won't keep Captain company."
Lin Yi watched them turn away, their eyes only for each other. Even though his confidence was rock solid, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of emotion—perhaps even jealousy. The thought of Li Qiweng hunting him down across the world made Lin Yi's heart ache painfully.
What should he do next? Lin Yi felt uncertain. Faced with the powerful propaganda machine and surveillance systems, he knew that once he appeared, he would become a target for those seeking to profit from him. He didn't want to kill anyone, but he certainly didn't want to be killed!
Yet Lin Yi also understood that he couldn't stay here for long. He immediately headed toward the house where Pearl Amigal lived.
As soon as he entered the house, before Lin Yi could say anything, Pearl Amigal exclaimed angrily, "I can't believe Jerry is convinced that you are Zombie and refuses to listen to my advice!"
Upon hearing Pearl Amigal's words, Lin Yi felt his head buzz and stared at her in shock. "You contacted Jerry?"
