A growing sense of foreboding filled Lin Yi's heart, prompting him to immediately call back David and Number 19.
When David returned, his face was pale with terror, trembling as he held a traditional paper newspaper. "Boss, something terrible has happened!" he stammered.
Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat as he reached out, snatching the newspaper from David's hands. The front page displayed a massive contrasting image.
On one side was Lin Yi's smiling face holding an award, while on the other stood a grotesque Zombie next to the gates of hell. A lightning bolt symbol cleaved through the image, separating Lin Yi from the Zombie.
Upon closer inspection, Lin Yi was horrified to realize that the monstrous Zombie was actually a depiction of himself. The headline screamed in bold black letters: "National Hero Turns Out to Be a Zombie—Tragic!"
Suppressing his anger, Lin Yi read through the article, discovering that his blood contained traces of the Zombie Virus. It even included test results for the Zombie Virus alongside his medical examination report.
The data indicated that Lin Yi had something identical to the Zombie Virus within him! The article concluded that Lin Yi was the hidden Zombie lurking among the Human Camp—a truly terrifying revelation.
The report listed various theories and incidents, even including an image from when Lin Yi first encountered Nicolas in the hospital. At that time, Nicolas had lunged at Lin Yi with bared fangs, but the accompanying image showed them standing side by side, smiling together.
"Absurd!" Lin Yi felt his strength waver as he crumpled the newspaper into dust.
"Boss, this paper just came out; not many people have seen it yet. If it spreads further, I fear it could have a significant impact on you!" David recalled scenes he had witnessed on the street and felt a wave of dread wash over him. After all, David was still just a fifteen-year-old boy.
"Hmph! This so-called 'Truth Report' is something I've never heard of before. It's clearly written for profit without any principles—just sensationalist drivel!"
Suddenly, the doorbell rang urgently. With a swift motion, Lin Yi opened the door. Number 19 rushed in, panic etched across his face. "Boss, I just saw many people sitting quietly at the entrance downstairs. It looks like they're targeting you!"
Lin Yi raised an eyebrow as that ominous feeling surged again. "What’s there to be afraid of? These folks have gotten too comfortable; they need to be taught a lesson about how there are still people in this world who can get angry!"
David and Number 19 were taken aback by Lin Yi's sudden fury and felt a twinge of fear themselves.
"Let’s go down and see what these people are up to!"
Using his Psychic Power to scan his surroundings with heightened Consciousness, Lin Yi found no unusual movements; these people were merely ordinary citizens.
Lin Yi lived in a luxurious estate, and the protesters were still several hundred meters away from his home. With a flash, Lin Yi appeared right in front of the group of demonstrators, accompanied by David and Number 19.
"Ah—" Suddenly, someone in the crowd screamed and frantically retreated. A few others, confused by the situation, also prepared to flee.
At that moment, a frail man leading the protesters shouted, "What are you afraid of? Do you think this Zombie would dare to openly devour us? Aren't you afraid that the Base Laser Cannon up there will take it down?"
With that, the frail man burst into laughter as if he had just heard the funniest joke.
Lin Yi narrowed his eyes, revealing a glint of coldness. This group of young people had even made a banner with bold black letters that read: "Zombie Demon Lin Yi, Surrender Immediately!"
"What nonsense are you talking about? Which eye of yours saw our boss as a Zombie?" Number 19, who had grown up in a world filled with conflict, stepped forward without hesitation, shaking his fists in anger.
"It's all over the newspapers! Lin Yi is the Giant Zombie hiding in our Human Camp! Do you dare to argue?" The young leader brandished a copy of the so-called "Truth Report," looking smug as he presented it to Lin Yi and the others.
"David, call the police. We can't get involved in this," Lin Yi said, pulling Number 19 back. They were both seasoned fighters; if they were to engage, he wasn't sure how badly they would hurt these scrawny young people.
If they struck first, they would be held responsible. While Lin Yi didn’t care much about such matters, he was well aware of how terrifying public opinion could be and didn’t want to be labeled as someone who bullied ordinary people.
"Oh, what's wrong? Are you calling the police to arrest you?" The young leader saw that Lin Yi and his companions were ignoring him and slapped the newspaper with one hand while striking at Number 19's chest with the other.
In a nearly instinctive reaction, Number 19's hands moved like lightning and grabbed the young man's wrist. With a sharp crack, he broke the young man's wrist!
"Ah—Mom... it hurts! It hurts so much..." The young man rolled on the ground, screaming like a pig being slaughtered.
"You dare to hit someone!" A short woman jumped out at once, pointing an accusing finger at Lin Yi's nose with rage written all over her face.
Lin Yi swatted away the Short Woman's arm and said, "You block my door and falsely accuse me of being a Zombie. How do you explain that?"
At that moment, Lin Yi secretly transmitted a message to Number 19: "Don't hit anyone; it's trouble."
After recovering his Psychic Power, Lin Yi had a better understanding of using it to transmit messages, though he could only manage very short phrases; anything longer couldn't coalesce into sound.
"We, the Zombie Extermination Team, will frame you. You are clearly a Zombie!" The Short Woman puffed out her not-so-well-developed chest and declared with righteous indignation.
"Hahaha, the Zombie Extermination Team? Have you ever killed a Zombie?" Lin Yi looked at the group of young people, genuinely unsure how to engage with them. It seemed he could no longer comprehend them, and they were equally lost in this society.
"Well... not yet... but we will today!" The Short Woman pointed at Lin Yi, and in her other hand appeared an iron rod, seemingly out of nowhere.
Although Lin Yi appeared calm on the surface, he was anxious inside. The sudden appearance of these people was abnormal; they were clearly targeting him.
It felt like a dragon swimming in shallow waters, being toyed with by shrimp. He had just been under soft confinement for over ten days, and everything felt different.
"Do you really want to kill us?" Number 19's temper flared, his dark eyes fixed on the Short Woman, causing her to instinctively back away in fear.
The Short Woman waved her iron rod threateningly. "What do you want, you disgusting Zombie? You'll die by my hand sooner or later!"
"Where are the police?" Lin Yi unleashed all his Psychic Power but found that the police station a few kilometers away seemed eerily quiet, as if everyone was on break.
Before Lin Yi could devise a plan, Number 19 exploded in anger. "Who’s the Zombie here? If you don’t have evidence, I’ll beat you to death today!"
Having grown up in the dark corners of the city, Number 19 never held back when it came to dealing with bullies.
In an instant, Number 19's hand shot out like lightning towards the Short Woman. She stumbled and fell to the ground, her iron rod flying from her grasp. Meanwhile, Number 19 somehow ended up holding an iron rod himself.
"You hit me! The Zombie hit me!" The Short Woman began to wail on the ground. However, since Lin Yi was in an upscale community far from the street, not many people heard her cries.
Nevertheless, several residents witnessed the scene from their windows and began whispering among themselves, their various comments reaching Lin Yi's ears.
"Number 19, don’t lay a hand on ordinary people!" Lin Yi quickly stopped Number 19's actions. He knew that if this situation wasn't handled properly today, trouble would ensue.
"Everyone, I apologize for anything I may have done wrong. Please forgive me. Your friend is already injured, and if we don't treat it soon, it might lead to some hidden troubles later!" Lin Yi said with a forced smile.
Who would have thought that the young man who had just been rolling on the ground would suddenly stand up, sweat dripping from his forehead as he addressed his companions, "Fellow Compatriots, the Zombie has become so arrogant. Are we really going to let ourselves be bullied any longer?"
"No, absolutely not!" The Spoiled Woman was the first to stand up in response, excitedly waving her fists.
"Kill! Kill these despicable Zombies!" the others shouted in unison, pulling out various makeshift weapons.
Lin Yi felt a surge of anger but knew he couldn't just chop them down like Zombies.
"How can you believe we are not Zombies?" Lin Yi waved his hands above his head, signaling everyone to listen.
"You are Zombies! Why should we believe you are not Zombies?" the Short Woman suddenly jumped up and punched Number 19 squarely in the face.
Number 19 bared his teeth, his fist as large as a rice bowl swinging toward the Short Woman's head. If that punch landed, even a rock would shatter.
"Number 19, do not strike!" Lin Yi shouted loudly; he didn't want to see a tragedy unfold.
Number 19's fist stopped just half an inch from the Short Woman's head. At that moment, she suddenly produced a gleaming silver Laser Gun from seemingly nowhere and aimed it at Number 19's forehead before pulling the trigger.
By the time Lin Yi reacted, a charred hole had already burned through Number 19's skull—he was dead.
