The night breeze gently stirred, and the air was suddenly filled with a mix of sand and a foul stench. Lin Yi glanced around and noted that at least a thousand Zombies had emerged on the scene.
These Zombies had burst forth from the sandy ground, their tattered bodies covered in yellowish sand that fell away as they moved.
"Sir, the highest-ranking Seven-Star Zombie has been slain by you. The remaining strongest ones are only Three-Star!" Black's voice rang out just in time. Lin Yi relied more on his own energy to estimate the opponents' power levels, which lacked precision.
In contrast, Black could instantly determine an opponent's strength through various algorithms, with extreme accuracy. Of course, he couldn't measure Zombies or humans exceeding Eight-Star Peak, as they had learned to conceal all their energy! If they wished, under machine detection, they could appear as lifeless stones!
"Eliminate them all!" Lin Yi had never felt any sympathy for the Corpseified Zombies. With the highest combat power being merely Three-Star, he naturally wouldn't take to the battlefield himself.
"Understood!" A synchronized shout echoed as everyone’s figures blurred and charged toward the approaching Zombies.
Once upon a time, even encountering a Giant Zombie would require Lin Yi's team to work hard for a while. Now, he didn't even need to lift a finger; dozens of elite Mercenaries boldly plunged into the midst of thousands of Zombies as if it were an unguarded territory.
At that moment, other Mercenaries and soldiers rushed over. They were shocked to see the sudden appearance of Zombies around the town. However, upon realizing that these Zombies posed little threat, they gained confidence and brandished their Silver Soul Battle Blades as they charged at the Zombies.
After all, firearms weren't infinitely usable. Moreover, this expedition consisted of elite soldiers whose combat abilities were not weak. In this situation, dealing with Zombies posed no significant risks and also provided an opportunity to practice and enhance their skills. Why not?
The Silver Soul Battle Blade certainly required effort to wield but was a weapon that could accompany them until the end! The members of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps seemed particularly enthusiastic about using the Silver Soul Battle Blade, whether due to Lin Yi's influence or some other reason.
Now even the original Nile City Defense Force had been equipped with Silver Soul Battle Blades at Lin Yi's request. This group charged forward without using firearms at all, directly engaging in combat with the Zombies using their Silver Soul Battle Blades.

This was certainly not because the Zombies were afraid; the only explanation was that these Zombies were also on the move, gathering strength in an attempt to deliver a fatal blow to Lin Yi's forces!
Thinking of this, Lin Yi could no longer remain calm. He immediately went to the intelligence vehicle where Jiao Jiao was stationed. He needed to find out if there were any unusual radio waves in the vicinity. Ever since the Battle of the Nile, Lin Yi had learned that Zombies could also use radios. Therefore, if the Zombies were trying to coordinate without showing themselves, they would have to rely on radio communication.
Inside the intelligence vehicle, machines were everywhere. Red and green lights flashed continuously, indicating that these devices were operating at high speed to prevent any sudden issues.
“Jiao Jiao, have you made any new discoveries?” As Lin Yi entered the intelligence vehicle, Jiao Jiao was focused on a stream of information, mumbling to herself. Her hair, which had been cut short for the desert expedition, was now dry and yellowed, clearly a result of neglect.
Hearing Lin Yi's call, Jiao Jiao looked up, her bleary eyes filled with fatigue, yet her face bore an expression of determination.
“The decryption program that Charlie wrote for us last time is very useful. We’ve also received some complete Zombie intelligence and further improved our decryption system. However, this time I’ve picked up a new type of radio wave that I’ve never encountered before. The two of us have been busy researching this new signal but have come up empty!”
Jiao Jiao's voice was somewhat hoarse as she rubbed her temples in an attempt to relieve the exhaustion from several days of work.
Lin Yi glanced at the display screen in front of Jiao Jiao; it was filled with lines resembling brainwave patterns, and he couldn't make heads or tails of it.
“Why don’t you take a break? This is just the beginning. If our intelligence expert gets worn out, it won’t just be others who will have to deal with me,” Lin Yi said as he patted Jiao Jiao's shoulder and nodded at the other personnel.
Jiao Jiao suddenly stood up, her expression intense as she said, “How can we do that? This is Zombie territory; we can’t afford to be careless!”
Perhaps Jiao Jiao understood the threat posed by Zombies better than many others; they might even be among the first to witness a large-scale Zombie outbreak!
Lin Yi smiled helplessly and replied, “You all need to take turns resting. I’ll have others strengthen patrols and send out more drones for wider searches.”
Jiao Jiao’s work involved not only collecting Zombie intelligence but also monitoring various significant events happening around the world and keeping track of influential figures. Naturally, it kept her extremely busy.
Seeing Lin Yi's determined expression, Jiao Jiao decided not to insist any further and gestured for everyone to start preparing to rest. Lin Yi immediately slipped out; at this moment, most of the Mercenary group was out on patrol. With no extra hands available to increase the patrol's intensity, Lin Yi had no choice but to team up with Ibn to deploy more soldiers for a thorough search in this area that spanned only a few square kilometers.
Li Qiweng approached Lin Yi after observing that he was nearly done with his tasks and whispered, "I suggest we leave this place immediately. I have a strange feeling about it."
"We've discovered a large water source here, and we're currently arranging to extract and store the water. There's no way we can leave tonight!" Lin Yi frowned. He would rather stay in the sandstorm-ridden desert than remain in this greenery-filled town.
The faint smell of blood in the air gave him an unshakeable sense of foreboding.
"Alright, once we've extracted enough water, we'll leave at once!" Although Li Qiweng was reluctant, he understood there was no other option. The next water source could be far away, and in the desert, water meant life.
As night deepened, Lin Yi urged Li Qiweng to rest early while he himself dared not let his guard down. Once he realized that zombies might be lurking nearby, he couldn't bring himself to relax.
By the time the moon reached its zenith, Lin Yi's eyelids grew heavier; he hadn't rested well for days. Finally finding an oasis, he still had to force himself to stay alert and monitor everything around him. Even though his strength had reached the Eight Star Level, he felt an overwhelming fatigue that was hard to resist.
Just as he teetered on the edge of sleep—caught between wakefulness and drowsiness—Lin Yi suddenly felt a chill run down his spine!
"Ah—" A scream pierced the stillness of the night sky, but it quickly cut off as if something had forcefully stifled it!
In that instant when the scream echoed, Lin Yi finally pinpointed the source of danger: it was that massive tree!
The once-quiet giant tree was now anything but calm; its trunk was covered in long vines that were thrashing wildly. In the dim light, Lin Yi saw two humanoid figures tightly ensnared by its tendrils!
"Man-Eating Tree!" someone shouted into the darkness. It was then that Lin Yi realized this seemingly enormous tree was actually a Man-Eating Tree!
However, this Man-Eating Tree was far too large; even getting closer, he couldn't see the top. Lin Yi was shocked, but dealing with a Man-Eating Tree was at least much easier than facing a Nine-Star Zombie.
At that moment, Lin Yi shouted, "Everyone retreat!"
He had just noticed that the originally empty Sacrificial Square was now filled with tents, and many people were resting dangerously close to the Man-Eating Tree!
It was truly a rhythm of seeking death even in sleep. As soon as Lin Yi's voice fell, many people scrambled out of the range of the Man-Eating Tree's attack. However, there were still quite a few who, overestimating their own strength, dodged the vines and pulled out their self-defense pistols to shoot desperately at the trunk of the Man-Eating Tree!
"Bang bang bang—" A series of loud sounds erupted; the bullets seemed to hit something as hard as diamond and bounced off without leaving a mark!
At that moment, everyone realized how formidable this Man-Eating Tree truly was. Even the hardest ordinary trees wouldn't be able to withstand bullets without any trace left behind.
In just a moment, Lin Yi had already approached within twenty meters of the Man-Eating Tree, and several others with High-Level Combat Power followed closely behind. They looked at this incredible Man-Eating Tree with astonishment on their faces.
"Step back! Watch me chop it down for firewood!" In just an instant, two soldiers were grabbed by the Man-Eating Tree and strangled to death, their blood and flesh being consumed relentlessly.
Lin Yi activated his Psychic Power, and the Silver Soul Battle Blade soared into action behind him. With one hand, he summoned the Silver Soul into his grasp.
In the next moment, Lin Yi stepped back with his left leg, slightly bending at the waist. He gripped the Silver Soul Battle Blade tightly with both hands; his arms suddenly bulged with power as an immense energy surged from his body!
