The summer sun blazed down, its round form fully exposed, casting light across the land but failing to reach the darkest corners.
After days of relentless exposure and constant Zombie attacks, the road that had been repaired was now engulfed in clouds of dust due to Lin Yi and his team's rapid march. A vast expanse of yellow dirt swirled up, making the entire group appear like a giant yellow dragon slithering through the landscape.
Though Lin Yi was not one to complain, he couldn't help but feel irritated by the choking dust. He discreetly used his Psychic Power to create a barrier against the swirling particles around him. However, what troubled him most was Ouyang Shasha, who persistently stayed by his side. He had initially instructed her to follow the first wave of Mercenaries. Yet, Ouyang Shasha did not truly belong to his Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps; her real allegiance lay with the Darknight Vampire.
At that moment, Ouyang Shasha had resorted to using her invisibility skills to stay close to Lin Yi because of the situation with the Darknight Vampire. This Mercenary group had been punished by the Mercenary Alliance and was now stationed at the front lines near the Nile, suffering heavy losses. Last night, Ouyang Shasha had contacted Benito, and they were barely surviving by constantly evading danger. However, she did not expect Lin Yi to rescue them; after all, tragedies were unfolding all over the world. Still, she hoped that Lin Yi's next competition venue would be near the Nile so he could lend a hand to the Darknight Vampire. In the end, Ouyang Shasha even declared that as long as Lin Yi saved the Darknight Vampire Mercenary Corps, she would be willing to do anything he asked.
Anything? The thought crossed Lin Yi's mind but was quickly dismissed; he was content with his current situation and confident he wouldn't do anything out of line.
Minutes later, their Mercenary Squad of over two thousand arrived at South No. 1 Death City amidst swirling clouds of yellow dust. The first batch of War God Suit Mercenaries had already formed ranks and surrounded the dilapidated outer city area.
Lin Yi instinctively spread out his Psychic Power and sensed that thousands of Zombies were rushing toward them. Among them were several powerful presences that made even Lin Yi gasp; there were five Zombies with Seven-Star Level Combat Power in their ranks!
Come on! As long as they aren't Nine-Star Zombies, you won't be coming back! Lin Yi's heart shouted. He believed he could handle this first battle. After all, High-Level Combat Power Zombies weren't exactly common! The fact that five Seven-Star Level Combat Power Zombies had appeared was already impressive!
"Whoosh—" Just as Lin Yi and his team arrived, five Seven-Star Level Combat Power Zombies stood before them like gods descending from above.
"Hahaha! Five High-Level Combat Power Zombies! Lin Steward! We're going to make a fortune this time!" Wang Zijun initially frowned but then clapped his hands in excitement.
"Wang Zijun, these five Seven-Star Level Combat Power Zombies are not as easy to deal with as you think," Alyah said with a furrowed brow. Although her combat power reached Eight-Star Level, she understood how hard-earned her strength was and wouldn't underestimate these five Seven-Star Level Combat Power Zombies.
Upon hearing this, Lin Yi took a closer look and noticed that each of these five Zombies wielded unknown metallic rods that glinted ominously; they certainly didn't appear ordinary. Moreover, these five Zombies were of the Giant Zombie variety, making their strength formidable.
"Once we engage in battle, we can't let our morale drop. I'll take responsibility for taking down these five Zombies," Lin Yi said with narrowed eyes. He knew these five Zombies were no ordinary foes but trusted in his current abilities.
"Uncle Koala," Wang Zijun said with an innocent smile while covering his mouth with his hand, "I know you're strong after donning the War God Suit, but if even Alyah finds them difficult to handle, do you really plan to go alone? Are you afraid we'll steal your glory?"
"Don't worry about it; watch how I eliminate these Zombies!" Lin Yi naturally wouldn't share his thoughts with them. Unlike other high-level fighters whose powers surged rapidly, his strength had grown steadily over time, making him more cautious and steady in battle. More importantly, as his power increased, so did his ability to conceal his presence.
With that said, Lin Yi disregarded everyone's gazes and focused on the five unmoving Zombies ahead. The Zombie Army would soon arrive; he decided to eliminate these five most significant threats quickly!
"Go for it, darling! Love you—" Just as Lin Yi prepared to make his move, Li Qiweng suddenly waved her hand and shouted at him, causing everyone around to burst into laughter.
"I love you too—" Lin Yi replied without a second thought.
The Five-Headed Seven-Star Zombie across from him understood the conversation between Lin Yi and Li Qiweng, and surprisingly, it laughed. Of course, the sight of its laughter could terrify anyone with a weak heart.
"Hmph, a united front? It didn't work the first time, so why would it now?" With a swift movement, Lin Yi vanished from everyone's sight.
Sensing the threat posed by Lin Yi, the five-headed Zombie quickly formed a united stance. Four of the Zombies positioned themselves in different directions, while the central one was ready to collaborate with its companions to block any incoming attacks.
Just as the formation of the five-headed Zombie was successfully established, Lin Yi had already appeared in front of one of them! In the next moment, the blade of Silver Soul flashed wildly as it aimed directly at the chest of one Zombie.
If this strike landed, the Zombie's chest would be shredded in half. Even if it survived, with just a head and a torn chest left, it would have no fighting power left.
The central Zombie felt the weight of its responsibility; it could sense that Lin Yi's strength was on a higher level than theirs. Clearly, one Zombie alone could not withstand Lin Yi's attack.
Just as the central Zombie prepared to block Lin Yi's advance, figures resembling Lin Yi appeared from three other directions, all executing identical attacking motions!
At that moment, the central Zombie recalled a piece of advice from an elder Zombie: when facing someone who could create multiple illusions of themselves, it was crucial to hold the center position. Although there was a significant difference between Eight-Star and Seven-Star levels, an Eight-Star Peak Combat Power would still find it challenging to defeat a Seven-Star level Zombie in a short time. Especially since these five Seven-Star Zombies were exceptionally powerful; they could even withstand an Eight-Star Peak Combat Power for a while.
The Zombies' plan was to stall for a moment while engaging with someone at Eight-Star Combat Power and then surround them together! In battles between experts, if one side began to falter, they could easily be overwhelmed.
At that moment, the central Zombie suddenly heard a series of "puff" sounds and saw that the four Zombies who had been preparing to counterattack with their Alloy Sticks had stopped in their tracks.
In the next instant, terror washed over this Zombie as its human-like emotions surfaced without reservation. The four Zombies around it had their chests shredded apart; their necks were completely severed from their bodies. Although this remaining head and neck Zombie was not dead yet, its only threat lay in its mouth. However, against this group of Mercenaries, even that sharp mouth was useless!
"Ninth Star Level!" Alyah exclaimed with wide eyes, disbelief etched on her face. She had investigated Lin Yi's strength long ago; even with the War God Suit, he only reached Eight-Star Peak combat power. Achieving Ninth Star Level was impossible relying solely on the War God Suit!
"No, not quite; he's still at Eight-Star Peak," said a man who had remained silent until now, his gaze reflecting complex emotions.
The last remaining Seven-Star Zombie stood frozen in shock; it never expected Lin Yi to become this strong. Their role was merely to hold out for a few moments, yet four of them had been slain in an instant!
However, this unfortunate Zombie did not remain confused for long. Just as its four companions fell to the ground, an even more dazzling blade light descended and cleaved this last Zombie in half.
"Perfect!" Lin Yi couldn't help but praise himself as he looked at the last Zombie he had slain. He never imagined that his strength was even greater than he had thought. At that moment, he felt like a god among men. The precise control over his body and the absolute mastery of his power felt incredible.
Though it was only a brief two seconds, Lin Yi believed this was the best he had ever performed!
The rumbling sounds grew closer, and Lin Yi knew that chaos was about to ensue, but he was confident that he would complete this battle perfectly!
"Get ready! Those with Six-Star Combat Power and above, come with me; the rest follow behind!" Alyah shouted first. Lin Yi's swift slaughter of five Seven-Star-Level Zombies had left her greatly impressed.
"Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps! Move out!" Li Qiweng declared without hesitation, immediately commanding her Mercenary team to take action. Although her perception wasn't as formidable as Lin Yi's, she could still sense that the approaching Zombies were not to be underestimated.
Just as the Mercenaries began to mobilize, the Zombie Army closed in. The massive horde of one hundred thousand Zombies was more than just a number. The countless decaying heads raised in unison seemed to sing a mournful dirge for their recently fallen comrades.
As Lin Yi spread his mental energy, he discovered that there were quite a few Six-Star-Level Zombies among them, and even some hidden Seven-Star-Level Zombies!
However, to Lin Yi, who was nearing Nine-Star Combat Power, these Zombies were merely stepping stones on his path to becoming the Mercenary King!
In the next moment, Lin Yi raised one hand, and the Silver Soul Battle Blade instantly glowed a deep crimson!
"Slash—" With a loud shout from Lin Yi, a nearly ten-meter-long Blade Qi shot forth from the Silver Soul. Wherever the Blade Qi passed, it effortlessly cleaved through the Zombies, turning them into piles of flesh.
