“Roar——” As the five-minute mark approached, a massive roar echoed through the ruined town, a sound so powerful that it could only belong to one of the Giant Zombies.
Paul's body jolted, and he drew his alloy steel blade, shouting, “Iron Wolf Brigade!”
“Fight to the last breath!” The remaining thousand or so members, though not as boisterous as before, still radiated a fervent energy.
In the next moment, Paul leaped into the air, and the others followed him into the battle zone. Lin Yi and Li Qiweng were more observers this time; after locking onto Paul's presence, they didn’t rush over.
The figures quickly vanished from sight. Lin Yi exchanged a glance with Li Qiweng, then the two of them slowly made their way toward the combat area. At this moment, Lin Yi extended his Psychic Power to a radius of one kilometer around him. He couldn’t afford to overuse it; after all, tomorrow would mark the main battlefield for the Mercenary group!
Within Lin Yi's perception range, aside from shattered bricks, there were only charred remains of Zombies. Ever since learning that Zombies could enhance their strength by consuming their own kind, he made it a point to incinerate any eliminated Zombies. As he delved deeper, he couldn’t help but admire the might of the Iron Wolf Brigade, which had already dispatched hundreds of scattered Zombies in just a few minutes, including several powerful Giant Zombies.
Suddenly, a multitude of chaotic energy signatures appeared in Lin Yi's perception—these were all Zombies!
How could so many Zombies appear in an instant? Although Lin Yi's perception was strong, he couldn’t see the specifics. At that moment, Li Qiweng raised an eyebrow, clearly sensing something was amiss.
“Whoosh!” The two moved in perfect sync without exchanging words, dashing toward the source of the disturbance.
“Boom—” Just as they stood firm, a tremendous explosion resonated!
At that moment, hundreds of soldiers were desperately firing their weapons at the approaching Zombies, but Lin Yi noticed several figures moving at incredible speed—those weapons couldn’t touch them.
“Stop!” Lin Yi sensed several formidable presences charging toward them. Their target was the group of soldiers still firing away!
Though these soldiers recognized Lin Yi, their commander was absent, and naturally, no one heeded his warning.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!” Just as Lin Yi finished speaking, five figures broke through the line of fire. They slammed an unnamed soldier clad in Mechanical Armor against a nearby thick wall.
The immense impact caused the already unstable wall to collapse instantly, burying several soldiers beneath the rubble. Before they could comprehend what had happened, more figures rushed in and used their bony claws to slash open the throats of those dazed soldiers!
“Five-Star Combat Power Zombies, and there are ten of them!” Lin Yi never expected to encounter ten Five-Star Zombies in what was supposed to be merely a trial operation!
Although the power of a Five-Star Combat Power Zombie wasn’t overwhelmingly strong, it posed significant danger to ordinary people. Paul’s Iron Wolf Brigade, even when facing a regular army group, had confidence in annihilating them completely. However, now they faced ten Five-Star Combat Power Zombies. Even if the Iron Wolf Brigade could hold their ground, their losses would undoubtedly be catastrophic!
The Iron Wolf Brigade, caught off guard by a sudden attack, managed to maintain their composure for the moment. However, faced with an overwhelmingly powerful enemy, they began to panic.
"Fall back quickly!" At this point, the soldiers were already engaged in close combat with the Zombies. Although some soldiers had managed to react and were using their Mechanical Armor to hold their ground against the Five-Star Combat Power Zombies for a few rounds, the disparity was evident. In just a few moments, several soldiers had lost their lives to the Zombies. No matter how loudly Lin Yi shouted, the soldiers could no longer hear him.
Fall back? Where could they retreat to? The two sides were entangled in chaos, and even if the soldiers wanted to withdraw, they had no idea where to go. Ten Five-Star Combat Power Zombies moved swiftly around them, seizing opportunities to slash at their throats. Meanwhile, ordinary Zombies surged forward, engaging the soldiers in a fierce melee where firearms could not be used, leaving only hand-to-hand combat with steel blades.
Lin Yi stood outside the fray, and it seemed that the Zombies recognized his strength; none dared to approach him. Li Qiweng silently stood beside Lin Yi without making any unnecessary movements.
"Sir, I can breach their defense system and take control of them!" The Intelligent System suddenly initiated communication with Lin Yi.
"Good! How long will it take?" In just a few seconds, over a dozen soldiers had been killed; at this rate, the entire brigade would be wiped out in less than a minute.
"Three seconds!" The Intelligent System responded with an almost human-like confidence.
As soon as the Intelligent System finished speaking, Lin Yi suddenly heard a rapid series of verbal prompts in his ear. In the next moment, the soldiers who had been fighting fiercely felt a jolt through their bodies; their Mechanical Armor, which had previously felt perfectly attuned to them, seemed to lose control in an instant. To their astonishment, the soldiers who had been prepared for a bloody fight suddenly found themselves retreating in an orderly fashion!
Five seconds later, all the soldiers had retreated fifty meters away, while Lin Yi took advantage of the chaos to slip into the midst of the Zombies. The ten Five-Star Combat Power Zombies reacted quickly and immediately sensed something was amiss as they noticed hundreds of soldiers retreating behind them.
"Sir, do you need me to lift them into the air?" The Intelligent System asked again, sounding like a loyal servant seeking its master's opinion.
Lin Yi nodded and then turned to Li Qiweng. "We'll split them between us!"
In the next moment, two figures separated from each other, one radiating silver light and the other shrouded in darkness. Lin Yi and Li Qiweng charged toward the ten Zombies from different directions.
"Experts!" One of the Five-Star Zombies managed to squeeze out those words upon seeing Lin Yi suddenly appear before it. Although its power had evolved to Five-Star level, its intelligence was still lacking. Its mission was simply to eliminate as many living forces of the Iron Wolf Brigade as possible; anyone standing in its way needed to be killed!
"Hmph!" Although it knew Lin Yi was stronger than itself, the Zombie showed no fear. It retracted its arm sharply, its dark claws extending toward Lin Yi's throat!
To an ordinary person, the Zombie's speed was astonishingly fast; however, to Lin Yi, it was painfully slow.
A slight smirk appeared on Lin Yi's lips as he turned his right hand and raised his Silver Soul blade upward. In an instant, a flash of cold light sliced through the air as Lin Yi's Silver Soul severed the Zombie's arm just as it was lifting it!
"Hmph!" A scene from over a year ago flashed through Lin Yi's mind—being chased down these streets by Zombies. Without hesitation now, he clenched his left fist tightly and harnessed the power of his War God Suit to deliver a devastating punch that shattered the head of the armless Zombie!
In the next moment, Lin Yi's figure flickered and he appeared right in front of another Zombie. With a flash of his Silver Soul, a cold light descended, and a neat cut appeared at the severed neck of the creature, causing the second Zombie to fall lifelessly!
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yi moved rapidly, directly closing in on another Zombie. His thumb and index finger transformed into a locking shape, tightly gripping the neck of the approaching Zombie. The same maneuver was executed on yet another Zombie that lunged at him! With a powerful thrust of his arms, both Zombies were violently slammed together.
With a sickening "splat," it sounded like a watermelon bursting as the heads of the two Zombies collided with tremendous force, instantly shattering. Dark, viscous fluid mixed with a small amount of white brain matter sprayed everywhere. Lin Yi deftly dodged the splattering gore and appeared in front of the last Zombie!
At that moment, Lin Yi suddenly crouched down and propelled himself upward. In an instant, he landed on the shoulders of the Zombie. With a slight bend of his knees, the Zombie's legs buckled, causing its entire body to collapse to the ground. However, with a sudden exertion of force from Lin Yi, the Zombie's spine shattered instantly, its shoulders crushed beneath his feet!
With a resounding "bang," Lin Yi kicked the head of this final Zombie into the air. The entire process lasted only seven seconds; each Zombie fell to him in just about a second.
Lin Yi glanced back at Li Qiweng, who was smiling brightly at him, her Dragon's Roar Blade floating nearby. Just moments ago, Li Qiweng had unleashed her attack, controlling Dragon's Roar to swiftly decapitate these Zombies faster than they could react!
The strongest Trouble had been resolved; Lin Yi and Li Qiweng pushed forward together. At this moment, the Intelligent System on Lin Yi's War God Suit had released control over the Mechanical Armor, allowing hundreds of soldiers to regain control over their battle suits. These individuals were no fools; they understood that it was all Lin Yi's doing!
"The next mission is up to you!" Lin Yi pointed to the remaining hundreds of Zombies on the battlefield. After all, this was a test for the Mechanical Armor; he couldn't do all the work himself.
"Thank you!" shouted one soldier with a Major rank at Lin Yi before charging into the horde of Zombies with his weapon raised. The others, having been pent up with frustration from being attacked by Zombies earlier, followed suit and surged into battle.
The soldiers equipped with Mechanical Armor had nearly reached Two-Star Combat Power levels. A group of them coordinated their attacks against a Giant Zombie, which stood no chance against their combined might.
