The morning air was crisp, carrying a faint scent of the sea, and Lin Yi breathed in this rare taste of nature with some enjoyment. After a long-awaited reunion last night, they had naturally stayed up until midnight. At this moment, Li Qiwen had not yet risen, but Lin Yi was already accustomed to waking up early.
It was then that Lin Yi noticed a makeshift military shelter not far from where he had set up his tent. From inside came the sound of soft laughter, like the chirping of birds. Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat; he remembered how loud Li Qiwen had been last night. They had deliberately moved away from the main camp for convenience.
But when had this makeshift shelter been built? Lin Yi wondered to himself. With his keen spiritual perception, how could he not have sensed anyone approaching?
Just then, the door of the shelter creaked open, and a graceful woman stepped out, dressed in a silk nightgown. The morning sunlight bathed her in a glow that made her appear almost ethereal.
"Captain Lin, what a refined interest you have," came a soft voice laced with flirtation as Lin Yi found himself captivated by the sight before him.
Ouyang Shasha! As soon as Lin Yi recognized her, his mind was flooded with thoughts that made his face flush with heat.
"Hehe, are these two already up so early to indulge in romance?" Li Qiwen's unique, crisp voice rang out from behind Lin Yi, making him realize how unusual it was that he hadn't sensed anyone approaching.
Just then, another figure emerged from the shelter.
"Ying Sa!" Lin Yi called out softly. He suddenly worried that if Ying Sa was here too, she might have overheard everything from last night.
"Brother..." Ying Sa was about to call out to Lin Yi but suddenly turned crimson and hurried back into the shelter without looking back.

Later, Lin Yi learned that five girls were living in that shelter because they couldn't stand the noise of the male camping area. As for what they had heard, Lin Yi knew better than to ask. He didn't possess the same boldness as Wu Hao or Jerry; he could only pretend to be oblivious.

It had been over a year since they last met. Paul had shed the youthful vigor of a junior officer and replaced it with a mature composure. What surprised Lin Yi most was the star insignia on Paul's shoulder; in just over a year, he had risen from Major to Major General—a remarkable achievement.
"Captain Lin, it's been over a year; many things have changed," Paul remarked, having reached Star Level combat proficiency himself and not feeling the oppressive aura that Lin Yi exuded.
Behind them, three massive aircraft were parked at the Military Airport—super transport planes that not even Ethiopia possessed. Lin Yi had brought three of them. Furthermore, the mercenaries accompanying him radiated an indomitable spirit, clearly indicating their formidable combat capabilities. Many of them even seemed stronger than Lin Yi himself, prompting Paul to silently admire Lin Yi's power.
"Major General Paul, congratulations," Lin Yi said, internally praising Paul's progress; advancing a major rank in just over a year was no small feat.
After exchanging pleasantries with Paul and some of the mercenary members he recognized, Paul urged everyone to leave together. As this was a Military Airport, it was bustling with activity, and the three super transport planes brought by Lin Yi were quite conspicuous.
Paul drove Lin Yi away himself but seemed preoccupied with something. Finally, when only he and Lin Yi remained in the vehicle after everyone else had boarded, Paul sighed and said, "General Kachi is dead; he was bitten by a zombie while trying to save me."
Those few words struck Lin Yi like a hammer on his heart. The image of Kachi flashed in his mind—the elderly man with graying hair yet full of vitality. The one who would sacrifice everything for his country's interests; though iron-willed, he remained kind-hearted. In just a year and a half, he had vanished.
"When did this happen?" Lin Yi felt as if something was blocking his chest and took a long time before managing to utter those words.
"About three months ago," Paul replied. "It happened right after I was promoted to Major. There was a large-scale zombie attack that nearly breached our hard-earned outer quarantine wall. General Kachi took performance-enhancing drugs at that time and engaged several of the strongest zombies directly. Since there were no high-level combat power zombies involved in the attack, the human high-level fighters hidden within that defensive area did not intervene." As Paul spoke, anger flickered in his eyes; he had been trained by Kachi himself and had watched helplessly as Kachi fell into encirclement without being able to rescue him—a feeling of utter despair.
"We will avenge General Kachi," Lin Yi's eyes narrowed slightly, reflecting a cold glint. He could imagine Kachi's tragic fate and understood Paul's sorrow.
"I will cooperate with you when we go out; I can even hand over my zombie hunting results to you. After all, we can't participate in the Mercenary King competition anyway; so my results don't matter much now. Besides, at my age as a Major General, many people will never reach this level in their lifetime—I am content," Paul said with a hint of disdain in his gaze as he glanced at his insignia. If it weren't for Kachi's sudden death, it would have taken him several more years to earn that star.
"No need for that; you need resources too. It will be enough if you're willing to help when the time comes," Lin Yi observed that being such a young Major General weighed heavily on Paul; many would not respect him due to his age. If Paul didn't achieve anything significant during this time, it would only serve as fodder for criticism later on.
"By the way, you should have Three-Star combat power now, right?" Lin Yi asked. Although he had transformed from a powerless clerk into a Seven-Star Level High-Level Combat Power Mercenary, he was still curious about how Paul had become so strong.
"I took some drugs that stimulate human potential, and then there were life-and-death trials. But that process is very painful; many people can't endure it," Paul replied, his brow furrowing as a look of pain crossed his face. It was clear that the trials were a painful memory he preferred not to recall.
"I forgot to tell you, I now have the authority to know the information we found in the Zombie den last time. It turns out to be a power system for individual weapons. The camp was very quiet, with very few vehicles around. Even though Lin Yi's group consisted of three thousand people, they felt quite spacious once inside. Paul informed Lin Yi that all active-duty soldiers were stationed near the Quarantine Wall, ready for battle at any moment. This was also why Addis Ababa could hold onto this territory despite being at a disadvantage.
The Mercenary Alliance competition had not officially started yet; this was to give mercenaries from various regions some preparation time. Lin Yi had come directly to the African Region and spent only half the time needed. With the remaining time, Lin Yi naturally instructed everyone to rest while he had something important to take care of.
On this trip, Lin Yi only brought Witerson II along as they set out to find his former teammate Jimmy. Over the past year and more, Lin Yi had been running around everywhere, and after getting trapped in Klinqi City, he lost track of Jimmy's whereabouts. To ensure Jimmy wouldn't be disturbed, Lin Yi hadn't informed Kachi about Jimmy's situation.
The two drove to a settlement where Jimmy had been placed previously. However, when they arrived, the main gate was tightly locked. On one side of the gate was a notice with an address and contact information signed by Slo.
Lin Yi and Witerson II exchanged puzzled glances, confusion evident on their faces. Although they had only given Jimmy ten thousand shared points, a year and a half should have been enough time; besides, they had already paid rent for this place!
"You two..." Suddenly, they heard voices filled with surprise nearby.
