The recently stabilized situation erupted into chaos due to the actions of the elderly man with Nine-Star Combat Power. Although this society still operated under the law of the jungle, where strength dictated everything, it was utterly unacceptable for someone like him to casually throw a leader of the Thousand Mercenary Corps into the Furnace to be burned alive. 0

The Furnace, set up not far away, emitted a roaring sound as flames consumed the mercenary leader who had just been thrown in. In an instant, his body twisted grotesquely, limbs contorting at unnatural angles, no longer resembling a human form. Soon, the burning corpse was reduced to a handful of ashes, disappearing into the furnace chamber. 0

"I know you all have doubts, but I had no choice!" The elder, who had been hovering in mid-air, finally descended. Lin Yi didn't know much about Nine-Star Level combatants, but the ability to levitate was enough to incite fervor among ordinary people. 0

"Chairman Cook, we demand a reasonable explanation; otherwise, the Mercenary Alliance may descend into chaos!" The Commander of the Paris Defense Zone from the Golden Mercenary Corps spoke with a cold expression. He had just entered Eight-Star Combat Power and felt a sense of helplessness facing this Nine-Star Combat Power elder. However, there were also Nine-Star Combat Power individuals within the Golden Mercenary Corps, which gave this commander the courage to confront Chairman Cook publicly. 0

At that moment, Lin Yi recalled meeting this elder during the banquet when he first became a First-Class Steward of the Mercenary Alliance. It had been nighttime then, and after drinking heavily, Lin Yi could barely remember what had transpired that evening. 0

"Petrov Butler, your treatment of a Vice Chairman is clearly disrespectful," the elder frowned slightly, clearly displeased with Petrov's tone. 0

"Hmph! The Alliance provides us mercenaries with protection; it does not have the right to judge us at will!" Petrov, the commander of the Golden Mercenary Corps, looked at Cook with an attitude that suggested he felt untouchable and showed no intention of apologizing for his rudeness. 0

"Indeed, Petrov Butler is right. What has our Captain done that warrants being burned alive? Even Chairman Cook surely does not have that authority. You are merely the Vice Chairman of the European Region; how can you treat your fellow alliance members like this?" As soon as Petrov finished speaking, another voice chimed in. Lin Yi glanced at him and recognized his insignia; he must belong to the same mercenary group as the burned leader. 0

"Hmph! I'll settle accounts with you later!" The elder shot a cold glance at Petrov's supporter before waving his hand. Two sharply dressed men in sunglasses pushed through the crowd. 0

One of them opened a portable case that automatically extended four long supports to prop it up. The case then unfolded into a square table on which sat a black machine. The other man began operating the black machine, which soon emitted a beam of light. After flickering several times, three black silhouettes appeared in three-dimensional images on its surface. 0

The images showed three individuals hurrying toward a building near the towering Quarantine Wall. One of them produced an identification document and entered a nearby garrison without coming back out. 0

Not long after it went dark again, those three emerged from within the garrison. They then proceeded to sit down at a nearby dining establishment and ate their meal nonchalantly. About half an hour later, they left directly. The scene shifted to reveal someone wearing a black hat and a long trench coat sitting at their former table. This person was almost entirely wrapped up and even kept their gloves on while eating. 0

Half an hour later, the figure wrapped in clothing stood up, preparing to leave. At that moment, as he rose, his hat was accidentally knocked by someone rushing past him, nearly causing it to fall off his head. In that instant, everyone caught a glimpse of what lay beneath the hat: sparse strands of hair atop a wrinkled scalp, and bizarrely, a black hole about the thickness of a thumb appeared on it! 0

"Ah—it's a Zombie!" The crowd recognized the distinctive features of this "person" immediately; they had encountered Zombies several times before. 0

"That one over there, do you still want to run?" Once everyone identified the Zombie, Cook raised an eyebrow, his eyes filled with murderous intent. He looked at the Mercenary who had just been defending his Captain as if he were gazing at a corpse. 0

"Thud—" Just moments ago, this once imposing Mercenary collapsed to his knees, crying and pleading, "Chairman, spare my life! We had no choice; we were captured by those Zombies. They poisoned us and forced us to help them before they would let us go. We never expected this; we thought this information wouldn't harm the Allied Forces..." 0

"How spineless. At least know yourself; I don't want to lay a hand on you. A Captain of an Eight-Star Combat Power Mercenary, along with two Vice Captains of Seven-Star Level Combat Power, and yet you lack such courage!" Cook interrupted him and turned away with his hands behind his back. For someone of his caliber, High-Level Combat Power individuals were valuable assets in this situation. However, the fact that three High-Level Mercenaries conspired with Zombies to betray their own human society left Cook feeling disheartened. 0

"He’s trying to escape!" Suddenly someone shouted, but no one chased after him. With ten Nine-Star Combat Power individuals present, was there any need to worry about a Seven-Star Level person getting away? 0

Sure enough, just ten meters into his flight, the man's head was severed cleanly from his neck. Blood gushed out like a faucet turned wide open. 0

"Hmph, if that's the case, then let's all die together!" Another Seven-Star Level Mercenary who had been silent suddenly changed expression. He pulled out a round black ball from his waist and with a fierce look on his face prepared to press a switch on it. 0

In the next second, chaos erupted. The Mercenary seemed to have springs under his feet as he shot upwards into the air. A loud "Boom!" echoed through the sky as an explosion sent black clouds billowing across several kilometers. 0

"Unrepentant!" Cook's face turned pale; having just fought against a Nine-Star Zombie and now dealing with three High-Level Mercenaries in such a thunderous manner was taxing even for someone of his expertise. 0

The other nine Nine-Star Combat Power Super Experts who had been standing silently nearby saw that Cook had dealt with the three traitors and exchanged nods before vanishing into the crowd. Lin Yi, who had been monitoring these nine with his mental energy, felt a tearing pain in his mind as all the power he sensed moments ago vanished completely. 0

Then the Commander of the Allied Forces appeared before everyone. He first expressed gratitude to Cook before turning to his soldiers and shouting loudly: "I hope everyone does not repeat the mistakes of these individuals. You all understand our determination against traitors; we will show no mercy! If you are unfortunate enough to be captured by Zombies, you have only one outcome: either escape or fight to your death! We will not allow traitors among us, nor do we wish for any of you to live in humiliation by betraying humanity!" 0

"Commander," spoke with a commanding voice, and the crowd, previously subdued, now felt an urgent need to vent their pent-up emotions. With some leading the way, they began to shout, "Fight to the end, never compromise!" 0

In an instant, the entire scene was engulfed in a sea of voices. Even Lin Yi, who had initially thought himself unaffected, found himself shouting along, his emotions growing more intense. 0

"Stop shouting! Chairman Cook is looking for you!" Li Qiweng suddenly patted Lin Yi on the shoulder, his gaze fixed on Cook, who was approaching Lin Yi at a rapid pace. 0

"Lin Steward, long time no see!" Cook appeared before Lin Yi in an instant, so quickly that Lin Yi barely registered his presence. 0

... 0

After stepping out from Cook's temporary quarters, Lin Yi realized that the situation remained dire. Although Cook had dealt swiftly with three traitors, he was uncertain if there were others within the Thousand Mercenary Corps who might betray them. Furthermore, Cook had assigned Lin Yi a task: to assimilate this thousand-member team! The first goal was to effectively harness their strength for resistance; the second was to ascertain whether there were any bad apples among them that needed to be dealt with. 0

While this seemed like a lucrative deal, Lin Yi couldn't help but feel distressed. Cook had disposed of another's Captain; now he was expected to take over this team. Who knew how they might curse him behind his back? However, as a Butler of the Mercenary Alliance, Lin Yi felt compelled to adhere to the decisions made by the European Parliament District. 0

Of course, Lin Yi wasn't foolish. With such a heavy burden placed upon him, he intended to secure some benefits! He first requested one thousand doses of Serum—an invaluable life-saving item—and the Mercenary Alliance agreed to rent him a Sky Giant at an extremely low price! Generally, even those with money would find it difficult to acquire such a massive Transmitter; only giants like the Mercenary Alliance possessed such resources. However, even within the Mercenary Alliance, there were only ten of these Transmitters available due to significant costs incurred. 0

As for other individual weapons, those were not an issue either. Additionally, Lin Yi requested that the Mercenary Alliance use its influence to have his "Silver Soul" reforged! 0
