Lin Yi quickly adjusted the interface on the virtual projection screen and soon discovered the situation on Flower Cannon's side. He was positioned at the South Side of the convoy, the farthest from the group. At that moment, hundreds of Zombie Beasts had appeared in that direction, while their numbers were only in the dozens, making their strength insufficient.
"Taishan, we need to provide support!" Lin Yi instantly decided that he and Pachy would go to rescue them. Currently, Taishan was the strongest in terms of individual combat capability. Despite having an Ability, even after taking the Potential Gene Drug, Taishan's overall combat level barely reached the peak of Star Level. However, his immense power made Lin Yi hesitant to confront him directly. In a place surrounded by Zombie Beasts, sheer strength alone could be quite dangerous.
The intelligent door automatically opened, and Lin Yi stepped out. Just then, a somewhat youthful voice called out, "Captain, I want to go too!"
Lin Yi paused and looked at Hai, the seemingly delicate girl. "Can you... handle it?" He had initially planned to refuse but changed his mind upon seeing the determination in her eyes.
"My Divine Technique should be enough for self-defense!" Hai bit her thin lips, her expression radiating an undeniable confidence.
Without further delay, Lin Yi nodded in agreement. However, Lin Yi's speed far exceeded that of an ordinary vehicle, so he decided to run directly there. Although Taishan wasn't particularly fast, he could cover ten kilometers in no time. Meanwhile, Yellow Sea had reached a high level of power and speed but still couldn't run fast enough.
"Hold on to me!" Lin Yi thought for a moment and approached Hai. She hesitated for just a second before understanding his intent and tightly wrapped her arms around his waist.
In the next moment, everyone felt a gust of wind sweep past them as Lin Yi and Hai vanished. Taishan paused for a moment before transforming into a blur and closely following after them.
At this point, Lin Yi's speed was not much slower than before; in fact, it seemed to be increasing subtly. Hai's delicate form pressed against Lin Yi's side felt weightless to him.
However, even with Lin Yi running at full speed, it took just over a minute to cover the ten-kilometer distance. What lay before him astonished him: a white Transport Vehicle was surrounded by hundreds of fearless Zombie Beasts right in the center. A dozen Mercenaries were desperately firing Laser Beams at them, but the Zombie Beasts showed no fear; the Transport Vehicle couldn't break free.
"Hold tight!" Lin Yi shouted as he leaped forward, covering seven or eight meters in one bound before landing among the group of Mercenaries.
"Ah! Captain!" One Mercenary was startled by his sudden appearance but quickly recognized him as Lin Yi due to his Star Level combat prowess.
"You all get in the vehicle and secure both sides and the rear; I'll clear a path for you!" Lin Yi knew they couldn't afford to waste any time; otherwise, their team would easily become surrounded by endless Zombie Beasts.
Following orders without hesitation, the trained Mercenaries swiftly retreated into the vehicle. However, Lin Yi noticed two people on top of it using sniper rifles; one was Flower Cannon! The other was a Mercenary responsible for managing the South Side with Two-Star combat capability.
On their way there, Lin Yi and Hai had already discussed their plan: Hai would use her Divine Technique to eliminate these Zombie Beasts while Lin Yi would handle any stragglers.
Suddenly, everything around them fell into complete silence for a moment as a pure and intense energy filled the air. In an instant, something miraculous happened: Hai began to radiate a soft white light as if she were bathed in holy light. In just a blink of an eye, a massive sphere of light emerged between her hands. A fierce expression flashed across her face as she shouted: "Purify!"
The glowing sphere, with an unstoppable momentum, smashed down towards the seven or eight Zombie Beasts charging directly at it, creating a thunderous Boom that echoed through the air.
“Roar—”
With great reluctance and anger, the Zombie Beasts surrounded by the light seemed to be scorched by the hottest flames, letting out painful cries. However, their roars quickly faded away as the light beam vanished without a trace.
Once the black mist cleared, the tightly packed Zombie Beasts had mostly disappeared. Those that had been farther away had narrowly escaped but felt a primal fear for the first time. The expressions on their faces even took on a human-like terror, causing them to hesitate and not charge forward again.
Lin Yi was also taken aback. He never expected that when Hai finally made a move, it would result in the instant purification of dozens of Zombie Beasts. Such combat power was something he could not achieve even at his full strength; the speed of those kills was astonishing. However, Lin Yi soon noticed that Hai's face had paled slightly, with beads of sweat forming on her forehead. It seemed that such formidable power came at a cost and could not be used carelessly.
“Hold on to me! Let’s keep pushing forward!” Seemingly shaken by the Sea God Technique, the once fearless Zombie Beasts began to show signs of hesitation. Lin Yi naturally seized this opportunity and immediately ordered the vehicle to move out.
“Whoosh!” A sharp sound rang out as the vehicle accelerated to its maximum speed, darting forward like an arrow released from a bow.
However, Lin Yi soon frowned as nearly a hundred more Zombie Beasts appeared ahead, blocking their path.
“Attack with all your might!” Lin Yi shouted as he fired desperately. After her powerful strike, Hai seemed fatigued; Lin Yi could feel her grip on him starting to tremble.
Unfortunately, one side of their vehicle lacked sufficient firepower to effectively fend off the charging Zombie Beasts.
With no other choice, Lin Yi threw all the grenades he had at his waist. The buildings in this area were densely packed, and he worried that too much explosive force would collapse them, leaving them with no escape route.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!” A series of explosions erupted among the horde of Zombie Beasts. The tremendous shockwave sent those massive creatures flying into the air before they crashed back down, instantly turned into mush underfoot by the following Zombie Beasts.
At that moment, a sudden scream came from behind Lin Yi. He turned around instantly and saw a Zombie Beast lunging towards Flower Cannon at lightning speed. Although Flower Cannon fired repeatedly with her sniper rifle, her shots barely affected the approaching creature.
The gaping maw of the Zombie Beast was now only ten centimeters away from Flower Cannon's neck. Realizing he couldn’t reach her in time, Lin Yi’s Silver Soul reacted instinctively and shot out towards the massive Zombie Beast.
“Thud!” The sound of steel slicing through flesh echoed as Lin Yi’s Silver Soul cleanly severed the head of the Zombie Beast! He let out a sigh of relief but his eyes widened in alarm as he prepared for his next move with Silver Soul. It was already too late; due to inertia, the massive head lunged forward and bit down on Flower Cannon’s neck!
This is bad! Lin Yi could no longer afford to think about anything else; he instantly vanished from his spot and landed on top of the vehicle to support Flower Cannon. With one powerful punch, he sent the severed head of the Zombie Beast flying into the air, exploding into a shower of gore.
"Flower!" Lin Yi helped Flower Cannon up and took a glance at him. A three-centimeter wound had appeared on his neck, but strangely, not much blood was oozing out. However, a stream of black mist was swirling towards Flower Cannon's face, and his once fair complexion was now covered with shifting dark energy!
"Boss, I entered this line of work prepared to lose my life at any moment. But in the end, I need you to chop off my head and have Miss Huang burn it. I feel like I can't control my body anymore!" In just a few seconds, Flower Cannon had already collapsed to the ground, as if all his strength had been drained away!
Lin Yi was filled with regret; Flower Cannon was about to undergo Corpseification, but he had left the last few vials of Serum back in the command vehicle!
"Hold on!" Lin Yi gritted his teeth and kept Flower Cannon from fully transforming into a corpse. He struck him on the back of the head to knock him unconscious. Then Lin Yi jumped down from the roof of the vehicle and stuffed Flower Cannon inside. He didn't want to see someone he knew die for no reason, so he fought desperately to protect him. But now he faced the prospect of his companion turning into an enemy—where could he vent such pain?
"Boss, how is Flower?" Hai's face had regained some color, but his eyes still showed signs of fatigue.
"Protect everyone; I'll clear the way myself!" Lin Yi said as he turned and charged towards the Zombies. Hai then realized that the two blades strapped to his back had lifted into the air, floating around Lin Yi. At that moment, five blades were hovering around Lin Yi, and he only ever wielded Silver Soul.
Just as Hai turned around, he heard a piercing roar filled with suppressed rage erupting from Lin Yi. His heart trembled as he felt a surge of anger rising within him.
"Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!" After Lin Yi shouted, the five blades around him began to spin at an incredible speed. At that moment, Lin Yi's face twisted into a ferocious expression; dark blood coursed through his veins as if he were a demon emerging from a blood pool, radiating an aura of death.
"Go!" Lin Yi commanded softly, and the blades reached their maximum spinning speed under his control, slicing towards the Zombie Beasts that were charging at them.
"Thud! Thud!" As soon as those Zombie Beasts collided with the incoming blades, they exploded into a mist of blood—the power of the blades' slaughter was terrifyingly immense!
