Those who fear death would never become Mercenaries, and as long as they remain passionate, they will not succumb to silence and resignation.
One person stepped forward, followed by a few others. However, this time even Lin Yi did not need to give further instructions; Lone Wolf transformed into a shadow and struck down.
Seven heads flew into the air like balls tossed by mischievous children, filled with unwillingness and rage, only to fall helplessly to the ground.
“Smash!” “Smash!” … “Smash!” The seven heads shattered upon hitting the ground like fragile watermelons, blood and brain matter splattering everywhere.
Lin Yi disliked overly arrogant individuals, even if that person was working for him. He sensed that the few people Lone Wolf had just killed possessed considerable combat strength. Lin Yi did not want the team he was taking over to become completely powerless, so as others began to stir restlessly and Lone Wolf prepared to continue his rampage, he stopped Lone Wolf's actions.
“I believe everyone wants to be a Mercenary because they hope to fulfill their own desires, not to seek death. Since Lone Wolf has allowed you to join my Blood Envoy, it must have been considered carefully! I hope you all do not reject this matter too much, as that would be your loss!
By joining my Blood Envoy, you can gain more!
You can acquire greater wealth! More powerful combat skills! More luxury cars and beautiful women!
And even! More thrills walking on the edge of life and death!” Lin Yi was very direct; for these bloodthirsty Mercenaries, immense power was their greatest support alongside wealth!
Lone Wolf continued to glare fiercely at the members of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group, as if they were all his enemies. Yet Lin Yi's words did not fully sway this group of Mercenaries because they were defiant!
Lin Yi sighed helplessly and signaled Douglas to take action.
Suddenly, a cold light flashed in the somewhat chaotic square. The first row of Mercenaries felt a chill in their lower bodies, an indescribable sense of dread flooding their minds. They all had one thought: if they made any sudden movements, they would be split in half in the next moment.
“Whoosh—” The first row of Mercenaries felt a chill in their thighs and looked down only to see their pants had fallen down to their waists. Many even noticed neat cuts appearing on their distinctive leather belts; their pants had fallen because the belts were cut through.
A few mercenaries, their pants cut off, stood frozen in place, unsure whether to pull their trousers up. Others chuckled for a moment, but as they processed the situation, disbelief washed over their faces.
"I know you're not convinced, but you just witnessed what happened. If I wanted to, I could turn you into corpses in an instant!" Lin Yi did not personally cut the belts of the mercenaries; after all, his control over mental power was still not on par with Douglas. If he miscalculated, those mercenaries might not die but would certainly be injured.
Amidst the shock, a loud thumping sound suddenly echoed nearby. The mercenaries turned to see a lanky figure casually strolling toward them, single-handedly lifting a car as if it were merely a fruit platter.
"I want to join Blood Envoy!" A pale-faced young man, barely in his twenties, was the first to step forward.
"I want to join too!"
"…"
"I want to join as well!"
Strength is worthy of obedience, and following the strong is not a shameful act. Once the first person expressed his willingness to follow Lin Yi, the others began pledging their loyalty. The members of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group had reached a consensus: following Lin Yi was the right path.
"Good, very good! Trust your choice; you will walk toward glory!" Seeing hundreds of people become his subordinates in an instant filled Lin Yi with excitement. With such a capable group of mercenaries at his disposal, many of his future endeavors would undoubtedly go much more smoothly.
After incorporating the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group, Lin Yi no longer had to worry about detailed issues moving forward.
The Lone Wolf Mercenary Group had a large camp that Lin Yi and his team could now move into. Regarding personnel organization, Lin Yi decided that the first twenty or so who followed him would vote on the matter themselves.
…
Meanwhile, Li Xianzong informed Lin Yi that arrangements had been made in London. Lin Yi then set off with Jerry. This trip to the Mercenary Alliance headquarters felt like going in alone with a knife; after all, even if he brought the entire Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps onto enemy territory, it wouldn’t be of much use. Of course, Lin Yi wasn’t foolish; Jerry’s Mental Control was already exceptionally refined. In case of an unexpected situation, Jerry’s abilities could prove more valuable than an entire troop.
The English Channel was fraught with danger, with the looming threat of the Corpseification sea monsters lurking beneath its surface. The coastal areas lacked sufficient defenses, and the Undead Birds posed a significant threat as well. Fortunately, there was an underground tunnel between England and France. After obtaining their passes, Lin Yi and his companions entered the United Kingdom alongside a group of well-dressed individuals.
As summer arrived, the streets of London were bursting with life. If one could still sense a hint of anxiety beneath the Parisian facade, in London, the panic of approaching Zombies was nowhere to be seen. In the distance, if it weren't for the towering defensive walls, Lin Yi might have thought he had merely experienced a terrifying nightmare about Zombies. The natural barrier of the English Channel had once again spared this island, suspended off the European continent, from direct attack. The people of London believed that they had not been defeated a century ago and would continue to prevail a century later.
Two young individuals came to greet Lin Yi: a man and a woman. The man appeared to be around forty years old, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, his sleek black hair meticulously combed back, giving him a refined appearance. The woman looked to be in her twenties, with a doll-like face. She wore a fitted black professional outfit that accentuated her delicate figure, her curves subtly emphasized. The blend of allure and youthfulness created an intriguing harmony.
"Hello, Mr. Lin, I am Qi Wei from the embassy!" The man introduced himself as he extended his hand for a brief shake with Lin Yi and Jerry.
"Hello! I'm Li Yao, the new intern," the young woman said with a bright smile as she slightly bowed to both men, inadvertently revealing a glimpse of springtime charm.
Lin Yi gently patted Jerry, who was nearly drooling, and smiled, "Thank you for your trouble!"
Qi Wei maintained a serious demeanor as he turned to signal Lin Yi and his group to get into the car. Li Yao radiated sunshine wherever she went, even walking with an air of youthful exuberance.
The group traveled in the embassy's business vehicle directly to the embassy. After a short rest, they hurried to the Mercenary Alliance headquarters at Lin Yi's suggestion.
Lin Yi had imagined that the Mercenary Alliance headquarters would feature classical porches, towering columns, and intricate ceiling paintings that exuded strong religious overtones and British style. However, upon arriving at the Alliance Headquarters, he discovered it was merely an ordinary modern building that looked no different from any office block. It was situated just across the street from the town hall.
The headquarters resembled more of an office for a foreign organization than anything else, so Lin Yi's presence alongside embassy personnel did not seem out of place.
Since prior arrangements had been made, someone was already waiting at the entrance to greet them. Lin Yi expected to see a burly figure but was surprised by a polished young man in formal attire who bore no resemblance to what one might associate with mercenaries.
"Please come inside!" The young man gestured with an open hand and slightly bowed his waist in invitation.
With mixed emotions, Lin Yi stepped inside. Although he had come to search for Aoling Er and her companions, he also knew that Anthony and his team were present at the headquarters as well.
Qi Wei, though not one to smile easily, was quite decisive in his actions. Aoling Er, a citizen of Lion City, was working as a staff member at the embassy. Naturally, he could request the Alliance's assistance under the pretext of searching for his fellow citizens. Unfortunately, this young man's rank was evidently insufficient; he couldn't answer questions and merely led Lin Yi and others directly to a reception room on the fourth floor.
The Alliance quickly sent a Lean Man to negotiate with them. The newcomer strode in confidently, his eyes sparkling with intelligence, suggesting he was no ordinary individual.
As Lin Yi assessed the visitor, the man plopped down onto the sofa.
"I am already aware of your situation. Regarding whether the Darknight Vampire was involved in this matter, I will not take your word for it alone. Regardless, the Darknight Vampire has joined the Alliance, while your so-called Mercenary Group is not one of our members."
"No, sir, I believe you are misunderstanding. This is not merely an issue between Mercenary groups; it concerns the Darknight Vampire's alleged kidnapping of our citizens!" Qi Wei adjusted his glasses earnestly.
No matter how powerful Lin Yi's personal influence was, it paled in comparison to the strength of the entire Mercenary Alliance. Now that Qi Wei was speaking as a representative of a nation, his words carried significantly more weight.
"Well then, sir, if you intend to negotiate on behalf of your embassy, I’m afraid I cannot assist you further. You should take this matter up with London City Hall!" The Lean Man was astute and would not easily back down.
"Your Alliance is legally recognized as an independent entity. I believe even the local city government has no authority to intervene in your affairs! Now that there are reports suggesting our citizens may be held by you, I have come directly to demand their release," Qi Wei argued firmly.
Seeing that his opponent showed no signs of yielding, the Lean Man decided against further verbal sparring.
At that moment, the sensing glass door suddenly opened by itself, and footsteps followed.
