The Dance of the Demon continued, and so did death. In just a few seconds, the reckless shooting of some Mercenaries trying to take down the three short blades resulted in the accidental killing of over a dozen Mercenaries.
Lone Wolf watched as nearly fifty Mercenaries fell in an instant, his heart bleeding. These Mercenaries had been his brothers for many years, fighting alongside him through countless battles. Now, because of a single decision he made, they lay dead far from home. How could he not feel sorrow?
It was too late; Lone Wolf knew that he and Lin Yi were now locked in a deadly struggle. It was either his death or Lone Wolf's.
"I will not give up! I must become the king of the Mercenaries!" Lone Wolf roared within himself, swinging his long knife at Lin Yi with even greater ferocity. However, Lin Yi's speed was too great. Even though Lone Wolf felt that his strength had subtly surpassed Lin Yi's, he still couldn't keep up with Lin Yi's ghostly movements.
"Swish—" Lone Wolf felt a sharp blade slice through his waist, and the next moment, a piercing pain shot through his mind. This injury caused him to stagger, nearly losing his head to Lin Yi's strike. Fortunately, Lone Wolf's reflexes were exceptional; he narrowly avoided several lethal blows from Lin Yi.
Lone Wolf understood clearly that if this continued, death was inevitable. How could he accept being killed by some unknown nobody when he was ranked third among the Mercenary leaders?
"Bang!" Lone Wolf's arms surged with power as he struck fiercely at Lin Yi. Lin Yi raised an eyebrow and clashed his blade against Lone Wolf's long knife. Unexpectedly, Lone Wolf used the force of Lin Yi's strike to propel himself backward like a shadow.
Lin Yi was startled; he would not let Lone Wolf escape. In the next moment, Lin Yi followed closely behind, swinging his knife toward Lone Wolf's throat. Lone Wolf widened his eyes and retreated rapidly.
Suddenly, Lone Wolf braced one hand against Lin Yi's blade while swiftly pulling something from his pocket with the other and stuffing it into his mouth.
At that moment, a bizarre scene unfolded. Lone Wolf's previously sallow face flushed bright red in an instant, even his eyes turning scarlet. A violent and terrifying aura erupted from him.
"Whoa!" Lin Yi sensed a dangerous presence approaching and quickly twisted his body to dodge to the right.
"Bang!" The long knife in Lone Wolf's hand descended like the Grim Reaper's scythe at that moment of explosive power, carving a deep three-meter-long gash into the ground.
Lin Yi sighed in relief for his quick reaction; otherwise, that last strike would have surely injured him.
With his attack missing its target, Lone Wolf was instantly enraged and transformed into a blur as he charged at Lin Yi again. At that moment, Lone Wolf resembled an enraged mountain lion, ready to tear apart anything alive in its path.
"Clang!" The distant sound of clashing echoed as Lin Yi and Lone Wolf's blades intersected, occasionally erupting into bursts of flames. Lin Yi felt a pang of regret for Silver Soul, which had sustained damage; it was the only remnant of Li Qiweng he held dear.
Lone Wolf had just consumed something unknown, significantly enhancing his strength and reaction speed. Lin Yi sensed the mounting pressure; if he couldn't take down Lone Wolf, his team members would be in grave danger. However, the situation still favored Lin Yi. Although the members of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group were elite among ordinary people, they were nothing compared to the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps.
The slaughter continued. Lone Wolf noticed that his comrades were dwindling in number, and despair began to settle in his heart. He had taken an immature Potential Unleasher drug bought on the black market, which posed severe risks to his body, but he believed that as long as he was alive, everything would be fine. Yet despite his increased speed, Lin Yi was clearly faster; several ghostly strikes had nearly claimed his life.
Seeing Lone Wolf gradually exhausting his strength, Lin Yi released a thread of mental energy to scan the surroundings. At that moment, he realized that the enemy's numbers had fallen to less than half, and those remaining were gripped by panic, their combat effectiveness severely diminished.
"Speed up!" Lin Yi shouted. He knew these Iron-Blooded Mercenaries wouldn't willingly accept death; he feared they might resort to desperate measures.
As soon as Lin Yi's voice fell, the members of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps shifted from stealthy ambush to face-to-face combat! Their speed surged to its peak, leaving the panicked Lone Wolf Mercenaries completely disoriented, unsure of where their enemies were.
"Brothers, let's fight!" Suddenly, one of the Mercenaries shouted. He pulled out two grenades and yanked their pins, preparing to throw them randomly.
At that moment, however, he realized he could no longer move. Staring at the smoking grenades in his hands, despair filled his face as he realized he would have to watch them explode right in front of him!
Three seconds later, two explosions rang out simultaneously! Many were still unaware of the danger and were caught off guard by the blasts, suffering injuries from shrapnel.
Douglas watched as the Mercenary who had been blown to bits lay lifeless on the ground. Without a flicker of emotion, he slashed his blade across the neck of the nearest Mercenary. The battles had transformed this former student into a cold-blooded killer against his enemies!
The thirtieth! In Douglas's eyes, only numbers remained. The more he killed, the greater his chances of survival became.
After the first Lone Wolf Mercenary attempted to use a grenade to force back a Blood Envoy Mercenary at close range, several others tried to follow suit. However, as the most powerful Psychic Power user on Lin Yi's team, Douglas controlled them almost instantaneously. These "warriors" received special attention from death itself as they watched their grenades detonate.
After several exchanges, only dozens remained from the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group; they had lost all courage to resist. Faced with Blood Envoy's overwhelming advantage, even these iron-blooded Mercenaries trembled with fear. They felt they were not fighting a group of people but rather battling demons from hell.
Those who lose faith on the battlefield are not far from death. Several Mercenaries who attempted to surrender were cut down at Lin Yi's merciless command. He couldn't afford any hesitation; there were still hundreds of members from the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group unaccounted for. If he didn't eradicate them now, it would surely lead to endless troubles in the future.
Lone Wolf watched as his subordinates dwindled around him, and the effects of the Potential Unleasher drug continued to fade, a sense of despair creeping into his eyes. Suddenly, like a dying man grasping at a lifeline, a glimmer of hope sparked within him.
"You kill me, and you can forget about saving those girls!" Lone Wolf shouted almost maniacally, his eyes shining with a newfound intensity as he fixed his gaze on Lin Yi.
Lin Yi paused for a moment, recalling that Reiko and the others were still missing. Guilt washed over him; he felt like a truly inadequate Captain.
"Did you take them?" Lin Yi retracted one of his attacks aimed at Lone Wolf, realizing that he needed to stabilize the situation first.
"Haha, those girls aren't worth my trouble! I just know where they are!" Lone Wolf laughed wildly, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth for reasons unknown.
"Tell me!" Lin Yi demanded, fixing Lone Wolf with an intense stare.
"I'll tell you, but you have to agree to one condition!" Lone Wolf's eyes gleamed with madness, sending chills down the spines of those watching.
"As long as it's something I can do!" Lin Yi felt uneasy but knew he had to agree for now.
"Good! Young people are always so foolish!" Lone Wolf managed to calm himself down; the red haze in his eyes had completely vanished as the drug's effects wore off.
"My patience is limited!" Lin Yi suppressed his anger, maintaining a steady expression.
"My request is simple: you must die!" Lone Wolf erupted into another fit of laughter, entering a frenzied state. After being pressured by Lin Yi for so long, he finally had a chance to vent his frustrations, and how could that not bring him joy?
Lin Yi smirked slightly before transforming into a blur and darting toward Lone Wolf.
A loud slap echoed through the night sky as Lin Yi struck Lone Wolf, sending him tumbling like a rag thrown aside.
"Don't think I'm a good person!" Lin Yi shouted angrily as he approached Lone Wolf. "Douglas, keep this bastard under control. Jerry, see what filthy memories are lurking in this guy's head!"
Lin Yi lifted the seemingly lifeless Lone Wolf and threw him directly towards Douglas, who immediately used his mental power to suppress Lone Wolf's resistance.
Jerry walked over a few steps, noticing that Lone Wolf was now under Douglas's control, even the direction of his gaze was fixed on Jerry.
“Douglas, your mental power is getting stronger,” Jerry said, feeling much more relaxed now that the major threat had been eliminated.
“Yeah, Ugo taught me a lot. Plus, this time the boss had us all take the Potential Gene Drug. I feel like my mental power has increased quite a bit as well. I just wonder if this boost will diminish after the drug wears off,” Douglas replied.
Jerry nodded, but suddenly his expression turned serious as he fixed his gaze intently on Lone Wolf.
A few seconds later, beads of sweat began to roll down Jerry's forehead, and his face paled slightly.
“What’s going on?” Lin Yi asked, sensing something was off.
“I didn’t expect this guy to be not only strong in combat but also incredibly resilient. I still can’t control his mind!” Jerry said, looking at Lin Yi with a sense of guilt.
“Is there any way to deal with it?” Lin Yi asked, feeling a surge of anger as he watched Lone Wolf smirking at him.
“If he gets mentally and physically exhausted, then it won’t be a problem!” Jerry thought for a moment and replied with certainty in his eyes.
