In a hidden corner, a gaunt figure, little more than skin and bones, glimmered with a cold light in its eyes. A strange wave of energy suddenly radiated from it. The previously chaotic Zombies instantly fell into an orderly formation, their attacks becoming sharper and more coordinated.
In ancient times, humanity's ancestors learned to use tools, marking the dawn of the age of intelligence. Now, those Zombies, once only capable of devouring flesh and blood, began to search for any tools they could find to attack their former kin. It was a moment that signaled a surge in their combat capabilities.
Lin Yi watched as five Zombies closed in on him, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes. At that moment, more Zombies were rushing toward the Bulletproof Transport Vehicle; their true target was to eliminate the armored transport. Lin Yi kicked one Giant Zombie in the head and leaped into the air, firing three beams of laser at the encircling Zombies.
The three Zombies seemed to sense danger just before the Laser Beams were unleashed, their massive bodies dodging amidst the sea of ordinary Zombies. As a result, Lin Yi's first three shots missed entirely!
Zombies had their tactics, and heroes could only feel helpless! Lin Yi shouted loudly as he soared toward the first Zombie. Despite the first Zombie being aware of the threat behind it, it was too late to evade.
With a "swoosh," another Zombie's head was cleaved in two.
But the real action was just beginning. Lin Yi cranked up the firing rate of his Laser Cannon to maximum. Though this would severely damage the weapon, he had no other choice.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
In an instant, five beams of laser pierced through four Zombies' heads before anyone could blink. Lin Yi felt a surge of joy as he raised his Laser Cannon to target the next foe.
The Zombie horde quickly adapted; the Zombies at Lin Yi's feet seemed to go mad, throwing themselves to the ground. In an instant, Lin Yi found himself crashing down from his elevated position. The next moment, those very Zombies that had just fallen rose again and surrounded him tightly.
"Alright! You want to play rough? Then let's do this!" Lin Yi disregarded everything and cranked up the energy level of his Laser Cannon to its maximum. This reckless act would essentially render the weapon useless. It was worth noting that this portable Laser Cannon was already expensive; after the outbreak of the Zombie Crisis, its value soared to a staggering hundred thousand Contribution Points—a price not easily borne by any ordinary faction.
The Laser Beams fired from this now artillery-like Laser Cannon were three times thicker than those from a standard Laser Gun. If it weren't for Lin Yi's extraordinary physique, most people wouldn't dare fire under such extreme heat conditions.
The furious Laser Beam shot straight into the Zombie Sea, as if it truly evaporated the water. After the massive Laser Beam swept through, it left a long strip nearly a hundred meters long and almost a meter wide, as if the sea had been cleaved in two.
With a loud crash, a group of Zombies, their upper bodies burned away by the Laser Beam, fell to the ground in unison, creating a spectacular scene.
Lin Yi gripped the already scorching Laser Cannon and activated the Laser Beam once more.
The blood-red Laser Beam erupted like a hellish fire dragon from the gates of the underworld, shooting towards the nearby horde of Zombies. The result was evident; hundreds of Zombies were instantly vaporized from the waist up.
Suddenly, an unbearable burning sensation surged through Lin Yi's nerves. Even in his fully activated combat state, he could not withstand the heat radiating from the Laser Cannon. With tears in his eyes, he hurled the Laser Cannon into the area swarming with Giant Zombies.
Danger surrounded him; there was no time to pause for battle. In that instant when Lin Yi threw away the Laser Cannon, Silver Soul danced in his hands, and dazzling flashes of light erupted as he sliced through a Zombie that had lunged at him with its bony black claws, reducing it to a pile of flesh.
At that moment, an even more intense wave of energy surged towards Lin Yi at a terrifying speed. The sensation of dancing on the edge of death stimulated every cell in his body; they felt as if they were awakening for the first time, brimming with energy. Together, they formed a miracle, allowing him to create wonders.
As the searing energy threatened to engulf him completely, Lin Yi vanished mysteriously and reappeared a hundred meters away.
He gazed at the explosion of flames with disbelief in his eyes. Just moments before, his thrown Laser Cannon had exploded due to overheating, triggering an instantaneous release of energy compressed within it. The immense shockwave was powerful enough to melt steel into molten iron; under such circumstances, even Lin Yi's extraordinary body would surely suffer devastating damage. Yet at that critical moment, he felt as if every cell within him was electrified with excitement. His entire body moved almost instinctively with his thoughts, allowing him to evade the most intense destructive force just in time.
After the violent explosion, an eighty-meter-wide vacuum zone appeared where the once-dense Zombie Sea had been. In this vacuum area, only a few barely recognizable humanoid shapes remained amidst charred remains. A nauseating smell of burnt flesh quickly filled the air as surrounding Zombies seemed momentarily stunned and halted their movements.
Without fear of death, there was no room for terror. While Lin Yi marveled at his newfound abilities, the Zombies resumed their attack. However, nearly all of the Giant Zombies had been obliterated in the recent explosion; Lin Yi had no fear of these remaining threats.
With a swift motion, Lin Yi transformed into a blur and shot forward. However, he felt frustrated that his speed was not as fast as he had imagined; still, it was noticeably quicker than before.
Only three Giant Zombies remained now; for Lin Yi at this moment, dispatching them would be easy.
Stepping on the head of a Zombie, Lin Yi arrived in front of three more Zombies in the blink of an eye. With two "Silver Souls" crossing each other, a sharp sound echoed as the Zombie's head was crushed into a shower of blood.
The remaining two Zombies flanked him from both sides, while the ordinary Zombies avoided Lin Yi's feet and began to attack him all at once. Lin Yi pushed his speed to the limit; just as the two Zombies lunged at him, he had already flashed behind them.
With a glint of cold light, he struck down, and in an instant, two massive heads were severed by the "Silver Souls."
With the biggest trouble resolved, Lin Yi dared not linger. Although these ordinary Zombies posed little threat, if he were to get surrounded, even he would be exhausted and doomed.
The Bulletproof Transport Vehicle that Lin Yi had just boarded had already driven far away, and he could no longer sense its presence. Without the threat of Giant Zombies, the ordinary Zombies were still manageable for the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps.
Lin Yi's speed soared to its peak; the Zombies only felt a force striking their heads but saw nothing when they looked up. Some Zombies, due to Corpseification, had their necks nearly devoured, and with a sudden push from Lin Yi, one head simply fell off.
The highway was almost covered with Zombies; with no place to land, Lin Yi could only advance by stepping on their heads. After about a minute, the density of Zombies began to thin out, and at that moment, Lin Yi had covered at least ten miles.
With no Zombies obstructing him, Lin Yi's speed increased even more. However, he could clearly feel his body straining under the load; he started to breathe heavily. But in order to catch up with his team as quickly as possible, he pushed aside his fatigue.
Five minutes later, Lin Yi caught sight of a vehicle speeding ahead. Compared to his pace, it was still somewhat slower.
Excited at the prospect of reuniting with his people, Lin Yi gritted his teeth and accelerated further. Just as he was about to catch up with the vehicle, he released his mental energy and immediately connected with Douglas.
A few seconds later, the Bulletproof Transport Vehicle came to a halt. Lin Yi leaped onto the roof and dove through the window.
"Boss!"
"Captain!"
As Lin Yi stepped onto the first floor, he noticed the concerned expressions on everyone's faces, which warmed his heart.
"Boss, can I be as strong as you in the future?" Brice called out, mimicking the tone of others, his eyes filled with hopeful anticipation.
Feeling somewhat fatigued, Lin Yi nodded and found a chair to sit down. He then pulled out a large bag of high-calorie food from his backpack that he had left in the car and began to eat somewhat awkwardly. Ever since he could become superhuman without relying on the Potential Gene Drug, his appetite had grown astonishingly large. After each battle, he needed to consume seven or eight times more food than an average person to feel full.
At that moment, Big Ears suddenly approached Lin Yi, hesitating as if he wanted to say something.
Lin Yi's mental acuity was sharp; he quickly sensed Big Ears' odd behavior and looked up. "Sorry, I don't know your name yet. Is there something you need?"
"My name is Ero. I think we might be attacked soon," Ero said with a strange expression.
"Attacked? How do you know about an attack?"
"Big-Eared Uncle has very sensitive ears; he can hear many things he wants to listen to. However, outsiders always think he's a weirdo!" Brice interjected.
Another Ability user, Lin Yi thought with a slight smile. With a flick of his wrist, the unfinished food in his hand floated into the air under his mental control. Ignoring Ero's surprise, he smiled and said, "I also have abilities that others may not understand; many of them do too." He gestured toward the other members in the vehicle. He had always welcomed Ability users.
Before Brice and Ero could express their astonishment, blinding beams of light suddenly shone through the car windows, causing everyone to instinctively shield their eyes from the harsh glare.
