The Zombie swung a massive iron rod towards the arrogant young man in front of it, confident that he could not evade this strike. At that moment, the Giant Zombie's face, covered in pus, displayed an excitement akin to that of a human, with bloodshot eyes gleaming with bloodthirsty madness.
In the next instant, an unbelievable scene unfolded. The Iron Rod, which could tear through gold and stone, came to a halt just one centimeter from Lin Yi's head. However, this was only a brief pause. In less than a second, the Iron Rod continued its advance.
With a whoosh, the Iron Rod swung past, but instead of the expected splatter of brain matter, the Zombie's eyes momentarily filled with confusion. In that fleeting moment of bewilderment, the Giant Zombie's head was already severed from its body.
Lin Yi steadied his Silver Soul blade against the ground and took a slight breath. In that life-and-death moment, his mental energy surged forth and collided with the powerful Iron Rod. The impact caused the Iron Rod to halt for half a second, allowing Lin Yi to twist and leap up, directly slicing off the Zombie's head.
At this point, Lone Wolf had also successfully dealt with one Zombie, leaving only two remaining to besiege them. Lin Yi adjusted himself briefly before turning to slash at the approaching Zombie.
A sharp metallic screech echoed as Lin Yi brushed past the Zombie. This particular Zombie seemed to have learned from the mistakes of the first and chose not to confront Lin Yi head-on; instead, it dodged as Lin Yi's blade came slicing through. Although Lin Yi's strike did not miss entirely, it merely made contact with the Iron Rod.
Having missed his first attack, Lin Yi quickly turned for another strike. However, the Zombie thrust its iron rod like a spear straight towards Lin Yi's chest.
With a thud, Lin Yi swung his left hand and deflected the incoming iron rod. In the next moment, his right hand surged forward as he lunged at the oncoming Zombie.
With a piercing sound, Lin Yi's blade plunged into the Zombie's chest. Before the creature could react, Lin Yi twisted his wrist as if stirring a spoon in watermelon flesh, creating a gash in the Zombie's torso. With Silver Soul blade facing upward, Lin Yi pushed off the ground and leaped high into the air, bringing Silver Soul down in a powerful strike.
With a loud crash, the Giant Zombie's upper body was cleaved in two by Lin Yi's blade. A foul black liquid erupted from within its massive form as its split brain matter tumbled down. What should have been white brain matter was tainted with an unknown black substance that writhed on the ground before quickly losing all signs of life.
In less than half a minute, Lin Yi had consecutively taken down three formidable B-Type Zombies. Meanwhile, Lone Wolf was still engaged in combat with the last remaining Zombie; however, that creature had already lost an arm to Lone Wolf and seemed unable to hold out much longer.
Time was of the essence; Lin Yi dashed towards the frail figure—it was crucial to this battle.
With a roar, an Abomination charged at Lin Yi alongside its last remaining Zombie companion. This one was even larger than the previous five Zombies and stood nearly three meters tall. Even Corpseification Zombies typically did not exceed an infected person's height; this one appeared far too monstrous to be merely an infected creature.
"Silver Soul!" Lin Yi shouted like thunder. The two silver blades he had been wielding shot forth towards the massive Zombie. He decided against confronting it directly; that would only waste time.
In an instant, Lin Yi blurred and leaped towards the Abomination. However, traversing that short distance of just over ten meters proved challenging for him. The Silver Soul blades he controlled clashed against the giant Giant Zombie’s iron rod; each impact sent waves of searing pain through his head as if something with countless mouths were gnawing at his brain cells.
Lin Yi clenched his jaw tightly; he could not afford to cry out or he would easily lose control over Silver Soul. Losing control meant certain death.
Despite how arduous it was to cover those ten meters, he ultimately arrived at his destination. The incident with being shot inspired him; he realized that as long as he concentrated his energy in any part of his body, that part would become impervious to blades and bullets.
Lin Yi rarely fought barehanded against a Zombie, but this time was different. He needed to use his fists to deal with this Intelligent Zombie. Aside from Zhao Pei, it was the first time he faced a Zombie that still possessed some intelligence.
With his steel fist, faintly glowing with fiery energy, Lin Yi lunged toward the frail figure in the darkness. He was confident that with this punch, he could dent even iron.
A sharp howl suddenly erupted from the thin figure across from him, filled with a chilling fear that washed over him like a tidal wave.
Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat, but he did not stop his attack.
Bang! Lin Yi felt as if his punch had struck against dry bones. The bones cracked under the force of his blow, and the insides were shattered as well.
However, contrary to his expectations of being pushed back by the opponent's strength, Lin Yi felt as if he had hit a sack of straw instead.
In the next moment, that figure was indeed sent flying like a straw bag by Lin Yi's punch.
What was going on? Lin Yi's eyes widened in disbelief. In his mind, although this Abomination was thin, it should have been an incredibly formidable opponent. How could it be so weak?
Without hesitation, Lin Yi leaped forward. He saw that the frail figure had been knocked into the corner of the city wall. But strangely enough, when he reached there, it was completely empty. He was confident in his mental acuity and remembered exactly where the Abomination had fallen, yet now there was nothing to be found.
With a whoosh, Lin Yi's mental energy spread out like a tide. Suddenly, a flickering figure appeared in his mind. His eyes widened as he looked into the distance; a shadow darted past.
Something was wrong! A bad premonition surged within him. Without hesitation, he sprinted toward that direction. But just then, an unexpected change occurred; Lin Yi felt a piercing pain in his head that knocked him off balance, nearly causing him to fall.
A fierce wind howled from behind him as he gritted his teeth and twisted to evade. The gigantic Zombie swung an Iron Rod at him with wild abandon. It had just forcefully smashed apart Lin Yi's Silver Soul under its control multiple times, which explained the sudden pain in his head.
Lone Wolf had already dealt with his assigned Zombie and was now wielding his long knife toward the Giant Zombie. Lin Yi recalled Silver Soul and leaped into action.
With Lone Wolf's assistance, this Zombie would find it difficult to contend against their combined efforts unless it had three heads and six arms.
"Die!" Taking advantage of the Giant Zombie's distraction as it defended against Lone Wolf's attack, Lin Yi swung his knife toward its head.
Just as he was about to land the blow, one of the Giant Zombie's arms suddenly swung up to block Lin Yi's strike. However, Lin Yi's attack was powerful enough to slice through its arm as easily as cutting through tofu, severing it at the thickness of an adult's thigh.
The Giant Zombie, having lost an arm, bought itself a moment of respite. At that moment, Lin Yi finished his slash and landed on the ground. The Zombie swung its Iron Rod, aiming for Lin Yi's head, the weapon whistling through the air with the creature's fury.
As the Iron Rod descended, Lin Yi gritted his teeth and leaped off the ground like a frog. In the next instant, a loud crash echoed as the spot where Lin Yi had just stood was smashed into a deep pit by the strike.
Lin Yi couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement, but he hesitated not at all. He launched another Silver Soul with fierce determination. The Giant Zombie, having just lost an arm and exerted great effort to swing its weapon, swayed unsteadily, lacking the strength to defend itself.
With a sharp sound, the Silver Soul pierced through the Zombie's skull. A massive gash appeared on the once hideous face of the creature, dark brain matter oozing out from the wound.
The Giant Zombie let out a roar, licking back the brain matter that had dripped to its lips, and lunged toward Lin Yi. Not daring to be careless, Lin Yi threw another Silver Soul, propelling himself into the air like a divine weapon unsheathed, ready to land atop the Zombie's head.
A clash rang out as Lin Yi's mind throbbed painfully, yet he fought through the dizziness and tapped his toes against the Giant Zombie's skull.
"Come back!" Lin Yi called out as he summoned the Silver Soul that had just pierced through the Zombie's head back into his hand. Ignoring the brain matter smeared on the hilt, he gripped the Silver Soul tightly and focused all his strength for a downward strike.
With a satisfying "thud," Lin Yi's blade struck true against the Zombie's neck, cutting through without resistance. The Giant Zombie's head fell to the ground as Lin Yi twisted and jumped down.
Lone Wolf's eyes flashed with a barely perceptible fierceness but quickly returned to his usual cold demeanor.
"Hero! Hero! Hero!" A chorus of shouts erupted from atop the wall. Lin Yi took a few steps back to a better vantage point and saw that people had gathered on the wall at some point, loudly cheering for him and Lone Wolf.
