A massive humanoid flame surged atop the city wall, and strangely, this blaze seemed to move on its own. Upon closer inspection, it was revealed that a gigantic figure was enveloped within the flames.
A chilling roar erupted from the fire, causing those nearby to retreat in fear. It wasn't that they didn't want to fight back; it was simply that this flaming giant was far too enormous and agile.
"Whoosh!" A fiery arm swept through the air, striking down a Shotgunner who couldn't dodge in time, sending him crashing to the ground.
“Laser Cannon! Hurry!” The terrified cries of the crowd echoed, but there were too many Flame Zombies on the wall. Some Zombies managed to break through the defenses of the panicked masses.
With the Laser Cannon unable to arrive in time for resistance, it fell to those armed with makeshift weapons to hold their ground.
“Joseph! Block it!” Brice shouted at Joseph, who stood frozen in place before a B-Type Zombie. Fear was etched on Joseph's face, and his legs seemed paralyzed, rendering him immobile.
Brice raised his machete, attempting to shield Joseph from the descending hand of the Zombie, but they were still two meters apart—clearly too far to reach in time.
As the searing flames approached within half a meter of Joseph, he finally snapped out of his terror.
“Kill!” The shout burst forth from Joseph, and with a flash of cold steel, he swung a long knife with precision.
“Clang!” The sound of metal clashing with flesh rang out as Joseph intercepted the arm of the B-Type Zombie mid-swing.
The roaring flames surged past, singeing a lock of hair atop Joseph's head into ashes, leaving his face flushed from the intense heat.
“Get away!” Just as Joseph blocked one attack from the B-Type Zombie, Brice closed in and swung his machete at the other arm of the creature.
“Roar!” The Giant Zombie, missing its target, let out a furious bellow and swung its injured hand toward Brice’s machete.
“Bang!” Instead of striking the Zombie, Brice's blade was deflected by its powerful palm. The force sent him staggering backward, igniting a fierce determination within him!
“Die!” With bloodshot eyes and a frenzied expression, Brice leaped into action with an incredible surge of strength.
The roar of the Zombie intertwined with the boy's angry shouts, and a cold light flickered in the deep night sky. Though not particularly eye-catching, this cold light was filled with power.
"Swish!" The boy felt his blade strike the Zombie's body, and flames erupted from the creature, scorching him to the point where he could barely open his eyes; most of his long eyelashes had already been burned away.
Enduring the searing pain, the boy squinted, a hint of joy appearing on his face. He had managed to land a full-force blow on the Zombie's shoulder, nearly severing its left arm.
"Roar!" Just as a glimmer of triumph crossed the boy's face, the enraged Zombie swung its intact right arm toward Brice's head.
"Watch out!" The other boys, who had just mocked Brice for his cowardice, rushed over in alarm. Each one wielded either a pitchfork or a wooden stick, striking at the Giant Zombie.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
A series of thuds and piercing sounds echoed from the massive body of the Zombie. The creature, which had intended to crush the boy with a single blow, was now too preoccupied to focus on him and could only desperately fend off the other attacks.
Seeing his companions fighting fiercely against the Zombie, Brice felt as if he had been possessed by a war god. The frail boy twisted his body and leaped up, delivering a series of kicks to the Zombie. He managed to pull out a knife that had been embedded in its bones.
"Let's kill it together!" Having narrowly escaped death, Brice saw his friends bravely attacking the Zombie, and any remaining fear vanished in an instant.
The thoroughly enraged B-Type Zombie swung its fiery arms at the boys surrounding it, intent on slaughtering them all before devouring them piece by piece!
The thrill of bloodshed made the Zombie feel invincible. Although Brice and his friends had landed several blows, they were still no match for it. The creature's weak point was its head, but compared to the towering two-meter-tall Zombie, the boys were simply too small.
"I'll do it!" Joseph snatched a harpoon from a nearby companion and took off running before leaping into the air.
"Whoosh!" A sharp sound rang out as Joseph's harpoon pierced one of the Zombie's eyes. However, he found himself suspended in mid-air and unable to come down.
"Roar!" The Zombie's head began to thrash wildly, dragging Joseph along with it.
"Joseph! Let go!" The other boys shouted loudly; this situation was far too dangerous.
“Roar!” The Giant Zombie forcefully pulled the harpoon out of its eye, and everyone could see a thin thread-like substance being dragged out along with it.
Taking advantage of the moment, Joseph let go of the harpoon and jumped down. However, just as he landed, he suddenly felt a fierce wind rushing from behind his head. Joseph barely had time to turn around when he saw the Zombie's arm suddenly swell and reach for the back of his head!
“Ah!” Joseph could only scream as the Zombie's scorching hand tightly gripped his neck. The sensation of suffocation and burning pain flooded his mind, but Joseph's consciousness fought to pry open the Giant Zombie's arm.
“Hiss!” A burning sensation shot from Joseph's arm to his brain, and in that moment of suffocation and pain, he forgot that the Zombie was engulfed in flames.
“Quick! Save Joseph!” Brice shouted, panic etched on his face, yet instinctively raised his machete and swung it at the upper body of the Zombie.
The B-Type Zombie, having caught its “delicious” prey, had no time to pay attention to Brice.
With a crunching sound of bones and flesh breaking, a noise echoed that was not loud but deeply stimulated everyone's hearts. At that moment, they truly realized how close death was and how terrifying it could be.
They watched helplessly as the Zombie bit through Joseph's neck, draining his blood until he was lifeless. In less than thirty seconds, their fighting companion had become a mere snack for the Zombie. After experiencing initial shock and panic, the boys felt their blood reignite with fury.
“Kill this monster!” Brice cried out with a trembling voice as he charged at the Giant Zombie, feeling braver than ever.
“Roar!” The Giant Zombie casually tossed aside what remained of Joseph's nearly severed neck and swiped at the boy who was now within arm's reach.
……
“Boom!”
“Boom!” The violent explosions roared around Vernon’s dilapidated buildings, which were hiding thousands of Zombies. The military had mobilized all available forces to provide fire support for Lin Yi and his team. However, according to real-time bombing results from satellites, the effectiveness was mediocre. The Zombies were scattered around Vernon, with many even hiding in the river; only occasionally did falling shells explode into a pile of severed limbs, allowing people to vaguely judge that an astonishing number of Zombies were lurking within.
The military's fire support couldn't last long; there were more areas to defend, but their weapons and ammunition seemed insufficient since most manufacturing plants had already been overrun by Zombies.
At this moment, Lin Yi was with Ying Sa and Lone Wolf in a Bullet Head command vehicle. They needed to agree on a feasible plan before reaching the battlefield to quickly rescue those trapped civilians.
"To catch the thief, first catch the king. The reason these Zombies can gather together is due to the unified coordination of the Abomination, so we need to find the commander among the Zombies!" Lin Yi understood the immense influence that the Abominations had over the other two types of Zombies; as long as one such Zombie was present, it would be a nightmare for them!
"Hmph, our firepower is enough to wipe out ten thousand Zombies, and Bullet Head's speed is not something these rabble can compare to. Once we eliminate the Zombies around Vernon, we can rescue the trapped people!" Lone Wolf's eyes glinted with cold light. Fighting had become an integral part of his life, and he was not afraid of a direct confrontation.
"But this might lead to losses!" Ying Sa countered. Her Mercenary group was not very large, so each battle relied on superior tactics rather than sheer slaughter.
"Are you saying you disagree with my plan?" Lone Wolf's single eye, which was mostly white, fixed on Ying Sa, a hint of lewdness flickering at the corner.
Lin Yi pointed to an area on the electronic map and said, "There should be an Abomination gathering here!"
Lone Wolf glanced at the spot Lin Yi indicated, frowning slightly, clearly not convinced by Lin Yi's reasoning.
"The arrangement of Zombies in other areas is obviously chaotic and constantly shifting, while the Zombies in this area have remained fixed within a certain range. Even after the recent artillery bombardment, there hasn't been much change here; clearly, this place is different from others!" Lin Yi explained his analysis to everyone before looking around at them.
"Alright, Lin Yi, Captain, you go eliminate the Zombies in this area while I directly attack the encircling Zombies!" Lone Wolf's strange single eye flashed with something unusual, but he ultimately decided to split their forces.
"Facing someone else's superior numbers, isn't splitting our forces a huge mistake?" Ying Sa raised an eyebrow and stared at Lone Wolf.
"Alarm! The first Zombie horde has been detected ahead!" Before Lone Wolf could respond, a piercing alarm suddenly blared from inside the vehicle.
