Among all those present, Douglas possessed the strongest psychic ability. Yet even he found himself unable to make any unnecessary movements in the face of so many short blades appearing at once. The murderous intent emanating from those blades was overwhelming, as if they aimed to pierce through anything that dared to obstruct their path.
Just as Douglas opened his mouth to warn, the blades simultaneously plunged into Lin Yi's body.
"Ah!" Before Douglas could fully vocalize his shout, an incredibly bizarre scene unfolded. Instead of blood splattering everywhere as expected, the blades seemed to pass through Lin Yi as if he were made of air, encountering no resistance whatsoever.
In the next moment, Douglas finally understood: it wasn't that the blades had met no obstruction; what everyone had just seen was merely an afterimage. As the seven blades passed through Lin Yi's "body," that afterimage vanished.
Everything happened in an instant. By the time everyone realized what had occurred, they only witnessed the conclusion of that thrilling moment. Yet this was enough to leave everyone in shock; in their understanding, it was impossible for a human to achieve such speed. But Lin Yi did it, and at that moment, everyone was awed by him.
Then an even more astonishing scene unfolded. The man who had been standing at the entrance of the red house was suddenly sent flying like a discarded sandbag. The crowd heard a series of "thud thud thud" sounds as flesh met flesh, and those men in black collapsed to the ground without even a groan.
Ying Sa's eyes widened in disbelief; she never expected that this seemingly foolish man in front of her could be so powerful. Previously, when her team collaborated with the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, Witerson II had already painted Lin Yi's performance as miraculous. Ying Sa had thought he was boasting. But now, witnessing Lin Yi's first display of might, she dismissed Witerson II's assessment of Lin Yi's abilities; he was far stronger than Witerson II had suggested. Ying Sa usually remained unflappable even in dire situations, but at this moment, her heart raced faster than ever before, her chest rising and falling with each hurried breath.
The Lin Yi who had just vanished now reappeared, his expression filled with fierce intent ready to explode. While others marveled at his formidable power, only he knew that those seven blades had nearly sealed off all his escape routes; he had walked a fine line between life and death. In that instant when the seven blades were about to pierce his body, Lin Yi concentrated all his psychic energy to halt them for just a moment. It was during that fleeting second that he summoned all his strength in his legs and escaped from the encirclement with ghostly speed. All of this transpired in less than a second; no one realized that the figure they thought had been struck was merely an afterimage.
"Very good! You managed to take down my seven Golden Killers without giving them a chance to fight back!" A familiar voice emerged from the doorway. Upon hearing it, Lin Yi showed no reaction; he had already sensed there were many more people inside.
A dozen individuals clad in Camouflage Uniforms streamed out from within, followed by a White-Haired Elder who strolled leisurely forward. He cast a brief glance at the fallen so-called Golden Killers before ignoring them entirely.
"I didn't expect you to still be alive," Lin Yi said mockingly; this elder was the one who had unleashed a Giant Zombie on him without warning.
"My grand ambitions are yet unfulfilled; I’m not ready to die just yet!" the White-Haired Elder replied meaningfully.
"Hmph! If you're not ready to die, then I'll send you on your way!" Lin Yi shot a piercing glare at the elder as if ready to strike at any moment.
"Bang bang bang!" A series of metallic clashing sounds erupted as those in Camouflage Uniforms aimed their weapons at Lin Yi and his companions.
A cold smile appeared on Lin Yi's lips as he shifted his stance. The crowd felt a blur before their eyes; a series of sharp sounds rang out like steel balls ricocheting around them. Then came a loud crash as Lin Yi threw a pile of objects onto the ground. Those who had narrowly escaped death moments ago gaped in astonishment, their mouths agape enough to fit a light bulb inside.
"I finally understand why you can take on seven psychic Ability users and leave them utterly defenseless. You must be one of the rare combat specialists among Ability users; I doubt there are more than three people in this world who could defeat you!" The elder continued to gaze at Lin Yi with calm indifference, exuding confidence. Earlier at Reiz Hotel, he had unleashed nearly forty Giant Zombies without managing to kill Lin Yi; he thought Lin Yi merely possessed great physical combat strength but now realized his psychic power was equally formidable. Such concentrated strength among Ability users could only mean divine favor. Yet he felt no fear; having lived long enough, he possessed ample means to deal with Lin Yi.
Lin Yi looked at the calm demeanor of the White-Haired Elder and knew that things were not as simple as they seemed, so he never intended to confront the old man.
"For a long time, Ability Users have been discovered by various governments to serve the nation. Those who possess abilities but remain undetected by the state are fortunate enough to be encountered by us, and we train them to become top assassins. That is why Ability Users have never appeared among ordinary people, yet unexpectedly, during this Zombie Crisis, you still came out," the White-Haired Elder squinted his eyes, as if recounting something that had little to do with him.
"So what? We came out to eliminate those Zombies!" Douglas retorted, sensing the old man's implication that they should not have emerged.
"Those who are different from the norm are always hard to accept," the elder murmured, then fixed his piercing gaze on Lin Yi.
From inside the door emerged a dozen people, but four of them were bound hand and foot, their mouths sealed with tape. They also wore strange transparent hats that seemed to contain some liquid.
"Jiao Jiao!"
"Ika!"
"David!"
"Jones!" Several exclamations erupted simultaneously from the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps; they had not expected that Jiao Jiao and the others had already been captured!
Lin Yi frowned and instantly prepared to take action; he detested it when others threatened him with those he cared about.
"Wait!" The elder shouted loudly upon seeing Lin Yi's movement, his powerful voice ringing in everyone's ears. Lin Yi halted in his tracks due to the elder's command.
"If you don't want to see them turned into a puddle of flesh, it's best not to act rashly," the elder's voice returned to a calm tone.
"What do you want?" Lin Yi asked, noticing Ika and the others looking at him in terror. His composure was slightly shaken as he realized they seemed to be tied up with something that resembled some kind of liquid.
"Honestly, I didn't expect you to be this powerful; otherwise, we could have cooperated from the start..."
"I will not cooperate with you!" Lin Yi interrupted the elder directly, though it was somewhat impolite.
"Hahaha! I know that young people like you are full of vigor and won't submit to our kind of evil forces. Therefore, I don't need you to cooperate with us; I only need one of your arms in exchange for your companions' freedom. What do you think?"
"No way!" Before Lin Yi could say anything, members of the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, including Ying Sa, all shouted in unison to stop him.
If Lin Yi really severed his own arm, it would effectively reduce his combat power by a third. Moreover, even if he did that, wouldn't the enemy take advantage of the situation?
The White-Haired Elder remained silent, merely watching Lin Yi. He knew that among those present, Lin Yi had the most authority to speak. However, it was strange that Lin Yi was only staring at the boy they were holding hostage, then glanced at his own team but remained silent.
"Don't try any tricks. They are all carrying highly corrosive liquid. If you dare to resist, the corrosive liquid in the hats above their heads will immediately turn them into a pile of bones!" The White-Haired Elder said anxiously, signaling several people to take out their controllers, ready to activate the switch at the slightest sign of resistance.
Lin Yi smirked, seemingly unconcerned. Just then, an incredible scene unfolded: Jiao Jiao and Jones, who had been surrounded by several Camouflage Uniforms, suddenly soared into the air and moved toward Lin Yi. Before anyone could react, Ika also levitated on her own. Of course, the most astonishing was David, who shot up like a rocket from the encirclement and disappeared into the night sky!
"Quickly activate the switch!" The White-Haired Elder shouted loudly. At this moment, the others finally reacted and hurriedly pressed the switch. Unfortunately for them, they did not witness Jiao Jiao and the others being corroded by the highly corrosive liquid.
Seeing Lin Yi's strange expression, the White-Haired Elder realized he had played a trick and immediately shouted, "Open fire!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The silence of the night was shattered by the sudden gunfire. But in the next moment, the White-Haired Elder's mouth dropped open in disbelief.
Those in the front row who were about to raise their guns to shoot were shot in the head by their own teammates standing beside them; they never understood how they had died!
Looking at the ground covered in blood mixed with brain matter, the White-Haired Elder couldn't help but tremble all over. The series of gunshots just now had been a massacre among their own ranks. But the nightmare was just beginning; at that moment of shock for the White-Haired Elder, beams of laser light shot toward him from all directions.
