Lin Yi gestured for Kachi to come over, indicating that he should join him. Tony was about to follow, but Lin Yi stopped him, concerned that he might act emotionally.
It wasn't a secret matter; although Lin Yi didn't invite Tony over, he simply found a random seat in the hall and sat down.
"Mr. General, I assume you're here to share some good news with us!" Lin Yi didn't want to ramble too much; he had handled everything himself and didn't feel the need to explain further.
Kachi chuckled but didn't respond directly to Lin Yi. After a sigh, he said softly, "The Forest King has two cubs, and one of them encountered two powerful enemies. While the Forest King could deal with these foes, it would also put its cubs in danger. To protect its young while driving off the enemies, it called upon the Leopard for help. However, the Leopard had other matters to attend to and was unwilling to assist. The Forest King then used its position to force the Leopard to stay and help."
Seeing that Kachi had paused, Lin Yi looked up and asked, "And then?"
Kachi shook his head and smiled. "Is there really more to tell?"
"Ha ha! What a dull ending if that's all there is! I'm sure there's more!" Lin Yi understood Kachi's implication and didn't want to continue circling around with the old man.
Kachi gave Lin Yi a thumbs-up and laughed heartily. "Not every story has to be interesting, but I do look forward to Mr. Lin's continuation, ha ha!"
"Alright then, can we get down to business?" Lin Yi chose to overlook the banter; it didn't mean he was particularly magnanimous—he simply hoped for another ally in this apocalyptic world.
"You can leave now," Kachi said in a flat tone, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
Lin Yi was caught off guard. Just as he was about to ask something further, he saw Kachi stand up and head straight toward the hallway.
"Mrs. Lin, you'll soon be able to leave here and go wherever you like."
Lin Yi didn’t get up with Kachi, but when he heard Kachi refer to him as "Mrs. Lin," his mind froze for a moment, sensing something was off. He turned back subconsciously to look at Kachi and noticed that Li Qiweng had already walked down the stairs without him realizing it.
"Wen, breakfast is in the kitchen!" Lin Yi called out as he walked over; he wanted to give Li Qiweng an opportunity personally.
Li Qiweng seemed not to hear Lin Yi's call and just stared blankly at Kachi with a smile on his face. "What did you just call me?"
“Mrs. Lin, if it weren't for your father telling us, we would have never known that you two are already engaged!”
Li Qiweng smiled a little shyly. Although she and Lin Yi were not married yet, it was only a matter of time. However, Lin Yi was not as composed as Li Qiweng; he was so excited that he was momentarily speechless, his thoughts stuck in his throat, unable to utter a single word.
“Mrs. Lin, you are free to move about now; we will no longer interfere with your freedom. Regarding the misunderstandings from before, Mr. Lin has already forgiven us, and we hope everyone can understand each other,” Kachi said sincerely. As a high-ranking official of the country, it was already a significant gesture for him to personally apologize to Lin Yi and the others, showing his genuine intentions.
Li Qiweng, whether intentionally or not, suddenly wrapped her arms around Lin Yi's neck and planted a firm kiss on his lips. “Let’s get married as soon as we get back! I want the best wedding!”
Lin Yi felt his face flush with heat from Li Qiweng's sudden display of affection and awkwardly pushed her hands away.
“You are free to act now. There’s a flight tomorrow morning to take you away, so you can prepare well,” Kachi said, realizing that further conversation was unnecessary and tactfully excusing himself.
Standing not far away, pretending to be busy but actually eavesdropping, Tony learned that they were free and immediately began shouting the news everywhere. Within three minutes, everyone had heard the announcement. Even the laziest ones, Jiao Jiao and Ika, managed to get out of bed at this moment to prepare a lavish lunch for everyone to celebrate their newfound freedom!
Once the excitement settled down and everyone returned to their usual selves, Lin Yi finally spoke up. “This time we are leaving for Lion City. I want to ask everyone if we will act together as one! I hope that after this, we will become a true ironclad group—living and dying together!”
Lin Yi was serious and solemn. Everyone understood that this was their last chance to choose freely; they couldn’t afford to take it lightly.
After a few seconds of silence, Woods, the last member to join the group, raised his hand like a student eager to answer a question. Lin Yi pointed at him in surprise and asked, “What do you want?”
“Will there be enough food?” Woods asked uncertainly.
Lin Yi was taken aback but quickly responded, “Of course! There will be plenty of food!”
“Then I’m willing—living and dying together!” Woods said with a grin as he manipulated his shadow friend to twist around holding a decorative bouquet.
“I’m willing too—living and dying together!” Witerson II, being a loyal supporter of Lin Yi, naturally wouldn’t fall behind!
“Living and dying together!”
"Together in life and death!"
"......"
Everyone clapped hands with Lin Yi, expressing their stance, but Pachy seemed to hesitate until the end. He knew where Lin Yi's true strength came from, and he wasn't sure how to proceed. As Mr. Li's personal envoy to the African Continent, he naturally couldn't leave casually.
Feeling the intense gaze and growing anxiousness of the crowd, Pachy curled his lips and finally gave Lin Yi a clap.
"Together in life and death!" Pachy softly uttered those four words.
At that moment, Lin Yi felt tears of excitement welling up in his eyes. Yet he still forced himself to laugh heartily; he knew that their team had finally, through countless battles, transformed into a true whole for the first time.
"To celebrate this historic moment, shouldn't we hold a banquet?" Tony, with his carefree nature, was naturally the most enthusiastic when it came to having fun.
Before Lin Yi could respond, Witerson II raised his hands hesitantly, signaling everyone to listen to him.
The crowd immediately quieted down, many guessing what Witerson II was about to say. Seeing everyone staring at him intently, Witerson II scratched his head and said, "Everyone knows Jimmy's current situation; it's clear he can't follow us. But if he stays here, he doesn't have any acquaintances, and we won't feel at ease!"
"We can take him back to Lion City and settle him there!" Ika said sympathetically; she had a fondness for that straightforward man.
Witerson II shook his head and replied, "Jimmy doesn't want to live a retired life; fighting has become part of his blood!"
Lin Yi felt troubled. He understood Jimmy's stubbornness; no one wanted to just wait for death. However, bringing him along into battle now seemed impractical. But leaving him here felt too cruel.
"It seems we need to leave someone behind to take care of him for a while until he can adapt to the prosthetics before rejoining our team," Lin Yi could only propose a compromise.
"The problem is that he's lost too much blood and is seriously injured; even resting will take a year. It's hard to say how much he'll recover afterward," Witerson II said worriedly; he didn't want to abandon Jimmy easily either.
"I'll help take care of him; I've already decided to continue fighting here," a weary and low voice suddenly echoed through the hall just as everyone was unsure how to resolve the issue.
Following the source of the sound, Lin Yi saw a young man with one arm missing standing at the door, dressed in ill-fitting military uniform. His face was unshaven, suggesting he hadn't groomed himself in quite some time. Lin Yi squinted, his mind momentarily blank as he struggled to recall who this familiar yet strange face belonged to.
"Slo?" To Lin Yi's surprise, it was Ika who first recognized the newcomer.
Upon hearing Ika call out the name, everyone else felt a wave of nostalgia wash over them as they remembered this old acquaintance. Previously, because Slo was an active-duty soldier in this country, they had helped him to the hospital and then never looked back; after all, his character was hardly commendable.
"Why should we trust you?" Witerson II glared at Slo, grinding his teeth together.
With a dull thud, Slo dropped to his knees without uttering a word, bowing before everyone in the hall.
"As a soldier, I know I was wrong. However, you chose to save me and gave me a chance to turn my life around. I have now been reassigned to reserve duty, and I will do my best in my work and help your friend!"
His hoarse voice echoed in the hall, leaving everyone momentarily speechless. As the saying goes, a man does not kneel easily; Slo's act of kneeling represented his sincere desire to change.
"It's true; I can feel his deep remorse and determination to improve," Wu Hao whispered as he moved closer to Lin Yi.
Lin Yi had never doubted Wu Hao's abilities. Given this, he was more than willing to let Wu Hao take care of Jimmy. When the time was right, they would bring Jimmy back. However, Lin Yi didn't want to make unilateral decisions; he sought input from everyone. Most of the time, it was Wu Hao doing the talking, and even Witerson II, who was usually the most stubborn, agreed to let Slo take care of Jimmy.
With the issue resolved, Lin Yi handed over a card worth ten thousand Contribution Points to Jimmy. He also emphasized the importance of Slo taking good care of Jimmy through a mix of encouragement and stern warnings. This time, Slo showed none of his former officer's confidence; he nodded vigorously in agreement.
