In the midst of their guerrilla-style ambush, the Super Zombie became increasingly frenzied. Ignoring its own injuries, it charged directly toward Lin Yi and his team. Each step felt like an earthquake, posing a deadly threat to the soldiers trailing behind. 0

Despite Lin Yi and his team's desperate attempts to shoot it down, several soldiers were trampled under the rapid advance of the Zombie, leaving them in bloody shreds. However, being merely flesh and blood, the Zombie was riddled with dozens of charred holes from their relentless gunfire. Yet, this reckless assault inflicted severe casualties on Paul's team, with seven soldiers already killed by the Zombie. 0

A deafening thud echoed in Lin Yi's ears as a thick beam of blood-red light shot toward the Giant Zombie's head. Under the intense heat of the laser, half of the Zombie's head was instantly obliterated. Without its brain to control it, the Zombie collapsed into a heap of mangled flesh. The tremendous impact sent debris flying, enveloping the area in dust. 0

Seeing the terrifying Super Zombie finally fall after their desperate barrage, Lin Yi nodded toward Flower Cannon, acknowledging that it was his precise shot that had dealt the fatal blow. 0

At that moment, Paul was still retreating in a panic. Only when he noticed that the Zombie lay dead did he slowly transition from chaos to shock. He could hardly believe that this creature, once as fearsome as an ancient beast, was truly dead. But reality was undeniable; he had to accept it. The ones responsible for this victory were Lin Yi's team, whom he had always underestimated. While he respected Pachy and Li Qiweng's combat skills, he had always viewed Lin Yi's group as inexperienced amateurs. In Paul's eyes, they had the most scientific training and top-notch equipment; he believed he had all the information needed to defeat them. Yet reality slapped him in the face—sometimes one cannot be overly confident! 0

"What's wrong? Are you waiting for us to help you up?" Bai said coldly upon noticing Paul's expression. He felt humiliated by their previous failures and believed he deserved to regain his dignity. 0

Paul ignored Bai or perhaps felt too embarrassed to respond. Despite his humiliation, he stood up, brushed off his clothes, and bowed to Lin Yi and his team. 0

"Thank you for saving me and my brothers," Paul said sincerely, without a hint of insincerity. 0

Seeing their leader bowing, the other soldiers naturally felt compelled to show their gratitude as well and collectively bent toward Lin Yi's group. 0

"Remember that we are a team; helping each other is expected. No need to make it so formal!" Just then, Doctor appeared out of nowhere after having been absent during the fierce battle. He confidently approached Paul and patted him on the shoulder. However, Paul had straightened up by then, making it difficult for Doctor to reach him; Doctor could only awkwardly wave his hand. 0

Lin Yi and his team were caught off guard by Paul's gesture, but Doctor's interruption eased the previously tense atmosphere. As Doctor said, they were a team—at least for now. 0

"Doctor, I think we need to send more personnel; otherwise, if we encounter a few more Super Zombies like that one, we'll face total annihilation," Lin Yi expressed his growing unease. He increasingly regretted agreeing to wade into this mess. 0

"Mr. Lin, I assure you we were prepared before coming here; it's not that we don't want to send people over. The moment we try to gather forces, those big bugs come rushing at us. Even if we can fight them off, our research facility can't withstand artillery bombardment. If we win but lose our data in the process, we've lost everything!" Doctor's emotions flared; his superiors had truly put him to the test with this mission. A single team divided into two factions before even engaging the enemy—now they wanted to back out at such a critical moment. 0

Lin Yi wasn't someone who lacked perspective; however, they were playing with lives now and had to take things seriously. 0

"Mr. Lin, I know you may not like me much; let's just cooperate this once. I hope we can work well together this time; our team will follow your lead completely," Paul declared with apparent determination as he slowly articulated his last few words. 0

Hearing this surprised not only Lin Yi's group but also Paul's subordinates. However, Lin Yi quickly realized how crucial Consciousness was and dared not underestimate it any longer. Understanding this point made him nod in agreement without further words. 0

Then Lin Yi reached into his backpack and pulled out the display screen he had just put away. At that moment, it was completely dark—the Mechanical Bird had evidently met with misfortune. 0

"Paul, do you have any more Mechanical Birds like this?" Lin Yi handed over the display screen while looking at him expectantly. 0

"Sorry, I only brought one," Paul said softly. 0

Although Lin Yi had anticipated this outcome, he still felt a sense of reluctance. Without aerial surveillance, their response speed to danger would be at its lowest. 0

"We must find that data today, right?" Lin Yi turned to the doctor and asked. 0

"Yes!" The doctor nodded solemnly. To emphasize his point, he added, "From my estimation, if we don't find the data, we might not be able to return." 0

Upon hearing this, Lin Yi merely snorted coldly; he had already prepared for the worst. However, Jimmy was still quite agitated, shouting and cursing at the doctor while brandishing a Laser Gun. 0

The doctor felt guilty and did not retaliate; he simply looked at Lin Yi, waiting for him to make a decision. 0

"Then let's make this quick!" Lin Yi exhaled deeply, calming his emotions. 0

Everything else was unnecessary. The bad premonitions in Lin Yi's heart could only be suppressed. Fortunately, having learned from past experiences, he had left himself an escape route and was not afraid of complete annihilation. 0

They were not far from the location of the data. After being delayed by the Super Zombie for a few minutes, everyone immediately quickened their pace toward their destination. Along the way, no other Zombies appeared; it seemed that there were only these few Zombies in this area. 0

In Lin Yi's mind, a figure lingered like an unshakeable nightmare. The more relaxed the situation became, the tenser he felt. However, with just a few hundred meters to go and not even a drop of blood in sight, he couldn't help but wonder if he was being overly suspicious. 0

Soon, they arrived at the front of a standalone three-story building. In this desolate place, the sudden appearance of a building felt strange to Lin Yi. The structure was compact; upon entering, there was a large hall devoid of unnecessary decorations. The entire building presented a dark gray hue that created an eerie atmosphere. 0

Lin Yi knew that the doctor would not reveal what was inside this group of people. So upon arrival, he looked at the doctor since he was still nominally in charge. 0

At that moment, the doctor seemed troubled. However, time was of the essence; he forced a smile and said to Lin Yi, "Due to the confidentiality of the data, I hope Mr. Lin can keep an eye out for any unexpected situations while Paul and I go inside to retrieve it. We'll meet up with you afterward." 0

Lin Yi replied with a forced smile, "I'll follow the doctor's arrangements." Deep down, he silently criticized that these were not his people and felt untrusted. 0

Seeing that Lin Yi had no objections, the doctor nodded happily to himself, thinking that this child could be taught. 0

Lin Yi and his group could only wait in the hall while the doctor stood inside as well. He observed his communicator while pacing around the walls and feeling for something. After about half a minute, it seemed he found the right spot and pressed firmly against a certain part of the wall. 0

With a "grinding" sound of metal against stone echoing through the air, a dark hole about one meter square quickly opened up in one corner of the hall. Lin Yi tiptoed to take a look; inside was pitch black and nothing could be seen. 0

The doctor wasted no time and signaled for Paul to step forward as they prepared to descend into the hole. 0

Paul switched on the powerful flashlight in his hand and was the first to enter the cave. After the recent battle, nearly half of Paul's team had been lost. Under Paul's leadership, it took less than a minute for everyone to descend one by one. Of course, the doctor was the last to crawl into the hole. 0

"Lin Yi, Lao Wu's side is ready. When do you think we should let them come over?" Pachy said, feeling relieved that only their own people remained in the hall, no longer worried about Paul and his team's awareness of their actions. 0

"We've paid such a high price to leave ourselves a backup plan, so let's hold off for now. I don't believe those people are truly that cold-blooded!" Although Lin Yi's words seemed disjointed, everyone present understood his meaning since they had already discussed their plans beforehand. 0

It had been several minutes since Paul and his group went down; logically, they should have come back up by now. Lin Yi walked to the cave entrance, preparing to see what was happening. However, apart from a faint glimmer of light, he found nothing unusual. 0

Suddenly, a series of terrified screams echoed from the dark cave, followed by the sound of laser gunfire and walls being shattered. 0

"Quick, fall back!" 0

"Ah~ my eyes!" The voices from inside grew closer, and Lin Yi even heard Paul's shouts. 0

"Protect the data!" the doctor yelled loudly. 0

"Damn it, it's Vultures! How did they get in here?" 0

"No! No! It's Zombies! It's all Zombies!" A hoarse voice rapidly spread through the air, an invisible sense of crisis wrapping around everyone's hearts. 0
