In the jungle of the survival of the fittest, the key to living longer is to continuously grow stronger! Stronger! And even stronger!
After his first preliminary experience at the Virtual Training Camp, Lin Yi felt a mix of joy and surprise. On one hand, he was pleased to discover that his abilities were not as lacking as he had thought; on the other hand, he was astonished by Li Qiweng's true strength. Although he had never minded her impressive background and achievements, he had never given up on his own efforts.
Seeing that everyone else had already exited, many wore expressions of insecurity. Lin Yi believed they should strengthen their training once more. The Taichi holographic training camp was available for them to use for a month, and the realistic simulated environment would be effective in enhancing their combat abilities.
"How about we go back in for another round?" Lin Yi asked democratically, still not fully accustomed to directing others' actions.
"No thanks, my results with Pachy have already far exceeded the standard. We don't need any more training!" Li Qiweng replied while wiping the sweat from her face with a towel provided by the training camp, waving at Lin Yi.
Lin Yi smiled awkwardly, and just then, Major, the young man who had guided them earlier, entered with an elderly man who appeared aged yet dignified.
"Ha ha ha! Sister Li graces our training camp with her presence; it truly brings honor to my old face!" The old man's voice boomed with vitality that belied his age.
Lin Yi turned to look at them, unsure of who the newcomer was. He felt a surge of displeasure as he noticed the old man staring intently at his wife.
"May I ask who you are...?" Li Qiweng stepped forward after confirming that she was being addressed.
"This is General Khaki from our training camp, responsible for overseeing all operations here," Major Officer said respectfully, bowing slightly to Li Qiweng.
"Sister Li, welcome to our training camp. We have just verified your identity; otherwise, we wouldn't dare treat such a distinguished guest so casually," Kachi said, extending his hand politely for a handshake with Li Qiweng.
Li Qiweng thought to herself that it shouldn't take a country three or four attempts to confirm her identity. When Pachy had previously negotiated with their officials, he must have accurately represented their identities. Now that they were being so courteous, it seemed something significant was about to happen.
"Not at all; we are merely intruding," Li Qiweng replied diplomatically, waiting for Kachi to elaborate further.
"I just watched Sister Li's combat video in the virtual camp. Even this old body of mine felt invigorated after seeing it. I didn't expect Sister Li's combat prowess to be so formidable; I've never seen anyone in the military stronger than you," Kachi praised her generously.
"Please excuse me, General; my humble skills are merely sufficient for self-defense," Li Qiweng responded modestly, sensing that Kachi was trying to set her up for something.
"Not at all! According to our grading system, we typically classify combat skills into four levels: A, B, C, and D. However, Sister Li managed to sustain herself in the training camp for over forty minutes—far exceeding the highest D-level standard. It seems we will need to revise our grading system specifically for you and Mr. Pachy here to include an E-level combat skill rating," Kachi indicated toward Pachy standing nearby, though his gaze seemed peculiar as if he had more to say.
"As for the rest of you, your combat skills are also impressive. The first group that came out is nearly at B-level combat proficiency, while the second group has reached C-level. Even that cool gentleman is close to D-level," Kachi remarked appreciatively as he looked toward Bai.
"Perhaps everyone is still unaware of the significance of the various ranks. Even at the lowest level, Rank A, there can be no more than five individuals with such combat skills in a hundred-person battalion. As for Rank B, it is even rarer, already reaching the level of Special Forces. Rank C can be considered elite Special Forces, while Rank D represents the elite among elites; such individuals are few and far between in an entire nation's military. As for people like Sister Li and Mr. Pachy, I have only encountered them once in my decades of military experience in an ancient Eastern country." Kachi noticed the puzzled expressions on everyone's faces and patiently explained.
Lin Yi never expected that after all this time spent in life-and-death battles, his combat skills had nearly reached the level of Special Forces. Of course, someone like him could only approach that level; it didn't necessarily mean he could defeat a member of the Special Forces. However, he still had some questions, particularly about Hai.
"Excuse me, General, how would you assess this young lady's combat skills?" Lin Yi asked Kachi while pointing at Hai.
"Well, to gauge her true combat capability, I would say Rank B is her limit. However, her running ability is impressive, which explains how she could last so long!" Kachi looked at Hai and paused for a moment before seemingly recalling this somewhat unique young lady.
Lin Yi nodded, feeling somewhat relieved. Although it was beneficial that Hai had strong combat capabilities, it was hard for him to accept that such a delicate girl could be tougher than most men. As for Hai's exceptional running skills, there was a reasonable explanation; perhaps she had just been naturally athletic before.
"I wonder if everyone is still interested in continuing training?" Kachi asked tentatively as he sensed that those present seemed to have no further questions.
"We two can skip it; this level of training isn't very helpful for us anymore," Pachy said as he glanced at Li Qiweng and addressed Kachi.
"Right, right. Would you two be interested in having a chat in my office?" Kachi's eyes scanned Li Qiweng and Pachy's faces, seemingly looking for an answer there.
"I'm not sure what the general wants to discuss; we are all part of the same team, so there's no need to keep anything from everyone," Lin Yi said as he stood beside Li Qiweng. At that moment, Li Qiweng naturally linked her arm through Lin Yi's.
A flicker of surprise crossed Kachi's eyes but was quickly masked by a playful smile as he replied, "It seems Sister Li still doesn't fully trust me. Then let's leave it at that for now." With that, Kachi turned to leave.
"General!" The Major Officer beside Kachi suddenly saluted him and fixed his gaze intently on him as if he had something to say.
"You are not their match," Kachi replied coldly after a brief pause.
"I want to know where my weaknesses lie!" The young officer kept his hand raised but raised his voice several decibels higher.
Kachi's figure trembled slightly before he turned around again, restoring his standard smile as he said, "This is Paul, the Vice Captain of Training Camp's first squad and possesses a Rank D combat skill level—a combat enthusiast!" Kachi bestowed many titles upon the young officer, clearly holding high hopes for him. However, after watching Li Qiweng's combat footage, Kachi remained skeptical about whether Paul could defeat either Li Qiweng or Pachy despite his confidence in his soldiers' abilities.
Upon hearing Kachi's introduction, everyone politely nodded. They subtly guessed what might happen next and felt a hint of anticipation. They were curious to see what kind of combat power someone with a Rank D skill level could exhibit—of course, this depended on whom he chose as his opponent.
"So what does your Excellency intend to do?" Lin Yi asked innocently, not wanting to stir up more trouble.
"It's not about what I want; it's just that my Major wishes to spar with your strongest member," Kachi replied with some reluctance. As a soldier, he couldn't easily admit defeat. However, facing an almost certain loss made it embarrassing if he agreed to Paul's challenge but equally disheartening if he refused and hurt Paul's feelings. Weighing the pros and cons of both choices in an instant, Kachi ultimately decided to agree to Paul's request for a battle. Of course, if Lin Yi's side refused, Kachi wouldn't have to feel so conflicted.
"I think I should be able to take on this Major!" Without waiting for Lin Yi to respond, Bai stepped forward, his expression cold as he stared at Paul.
"Sorry, I don't like picking on those weaker than me," Paul shot a glance at Bai, his tone unfriendly.
"How do you know I'm weaker than you? We won't know unless we have a match," Bai struggled to suppress the anger boiling inside him. He felt frustrated; their previous team had inexplicably encountered Zombies, leaving only a few survivors. They had been fighting non-stop along the way, facing one monster after another with abilities. For someone like Bai, who always aimed to be strong, his current position felt awkward, so he decided to step up and challenge Paul.
Seeing the hostility in Bai's eyes seemed to ignite Paul's own anger. He nodded and said, "In that case, I'll warm up first."
Both sides understood that this match was inevitable and did not intervene. They stepped back voluntarily, leaving enough space for the two of them to fight.
Just as everyone retreated to a distance of ten meters, the two combatants, already prepared for battle, charged at each other almost instantaneously. It was evident that Bai's speed lagged just a bit behind. However, before anyone could start worrying, they had already engaged in combat.
Paul was taller than Bai by a head and immediately launched a heavy punch. But Bai didn’t take it head-on; instead, he ducked and aimed a punch at Paul's abdomen. In that split second, Paul’s empty left hand shot out to meet Bai's fist.
A dull thud echoed in everyone's ears as Bai used the force of the impact to retreat outside of Paul's attack range. However, taking advantage of his position, Paul understood he should press the attack and swept his leg toward Bai. Just as it seemed Bai would be tripped up, an incredible scene unfolded: Bai leaped away from the sweeping kick with surprising agility. As Paul's leg passed by, it created a gust of wind that ruffled Bai's hair.
At that moment, Bai was almost crawling on the ground but managed to push himself up with both hands and sprang sideways like a frog. Paul’s kick missed its target but he quickly regained his balance and propelled himself off the ground like a missile.
As soon as Bai stood up after evading Paul's attack range, Paul closed in on him too quickly for him to dodge. Then came a fist as large as a cymbal crashing into Bai's face. Accompanied by Jiao Jiao's startled cry, Bai was sent crashing to the ground.
