If one were to ask what the most terrifying thing in this world is, it would certainly not be death. For many, death can even be a form of relief. The most horrifying experience is facing the unknown fear in the most desolate places, alone. There are no supports, only solitude and desolation filling the mind, seemingly an eternal state of entrapment. The noose of fate tightens around the neck, making it harder to breathe, even to think. Death looms nearby, yet the mind remains alert, waiting for the most dreadful event to unfold.
At the moment the virtual scene was triggered, Lin Yi felt as if he had been abandoned by the world. There were no teammates, no points of reference, only an endless expanse of snow. He knew it wasn't real, but he felt cold. He involuntarily began to shiver; despite wearing several layers, that chill seemed to penetrate his very soul.
"Smack!" Lin Yi slapped himself hard across the face, trying to wake himself up. No matter how realistic the scene was, it was still virtual; it wasn't that cold here. He couldn't allow himself to freeze to death in his imagination—that would be utterly ridiculous.
Lin Yi stomped his feet and rubbed his face to keep himself in a good state.
"Whoosh~" Suddenly, a massive creature appeared in the previously empty space!
"Polar Bear!" Lin Yi exclaimed softly but quickly reminded himself that it was fake. At that moment, a virtual stick appeared in his hand; this was his weapon against the Polar Bear.
Lin Yi's eyes were fixed on the approaching Polar Bear. To survive its attack, he needed to seize the initiative.
However, the virtual Polar Bear did not give him that chance and closed in on him at an unreasonable speed.
"Ha!" Lin Yi swung his stick, knowing full well that this bear was an illusion, yet its realistic appearance sent chills down his spine.
A dull thud echoed in Lin Yi's ears as the Polar Bear staggered back a few steps. It seemed that in terms of strength settings, Lin Yi was at least equal to this Polar Bear. After all, this was just training; if a trainee faced someone several times stronger from the start, there would be no point in fighting—surrender would be inevitable.
"Arooo~" The Polar Bear let out a long howl and lunged directly at Lin Yi with incredible speed. However, Lin Yi's combat experience was not trivial; combined with the residual stimulation from the potential drug he had taken, while his speed wasn't as great as when he had used the drug, it had still reached a new height.
As the Polar Bear charged like a mountain towards him, Lin Yi sidestepped just in time. He gripped the virtual stick tightly and struck hard at the Polar Bear's head. What he thought would feel like a mere scratch turned out to be a decisive blow—the Polar Bear vanished upon impact!
"Is it dead already?" Lin Yi murmured in disbelief. If he had taken the Gene Drug, he would have been confident enough to take down not just one but ten bears. But now he was just an ordinary person who managed to defeat a Polar Bear in two rounds!
Could it be that my combat skills have become this formidable? The more Lin Yi thought about it, the more astonished he became. Gradually, excitement bubbled within him; Li Qiweng was so powerful—though she often acted indifferent about it, deep down she hoped to at least match her strength.
"Hahaha~" Lin Yi laughed wildly into the "void." His previous efforts had not been in vain; his combat skills had reached a new level. Real combat had greatly enhanced Lin Yi's abilities; after all, facing life and death repeatedly meant that one misstep could lead to disaster.

"Thump thump~" Strange noises suddenly emanated from beneath the floating ice; at this moment, Lin Yi's weapon transformed into a harpoon. He began to doubt whether he was about to fight a shark.
"Squeak squeak!" Suddenly, a black-and-white figure appeared before Lin Yi, startling him so much that he nearly fell off the floating ice on which he stood.
Lin Yi steadied his mind and looked closer; it was actually a penguin! With its short stature and the tuxedo-like appearance nature had tailored for it, the adorable creature was quite endearing.
Could I really kill this penguin? That would be too cruel, Lin Yi thought to himself.
"Whoosh!" Just as Lin Yi was lost in thought, the originally cute penguin suddenly opened its mouth wide. A scarlet tongue shot out at an incredible speed, aiming to wrap around Lin Yi's neck.
"Ah!" Lin Yi couldn't react in time to this sudden close-range attack, feeling a sharp, burning pain in his neck.
Instinctively, he swung the harpoon in his hand towards the penguin's head. At that moment, his neck was still ensnared; one hand protected his aching neck while the other wielded the harpoon.
With a slicing sound, the harpoon pierced through the penguin's head, delivering a chilling blow. The penguin then vanished instantly.
However, just as Lin Yi exhaled and began to rub his neck in an attempt to ease the pain, strange noises echoed around him.
"Chirp, chirp," the sounds grew shorter and closer with each repetition.
Lin Yi glanced around in panic; the surface of the sea was becoming increasingly turbulent, as if many creatures were stirring beneath.
Suddenly, a penguin burst out of the water, quickly followed by a larger Emperor Penguin!
"Oh no, its family has come to take revenge!" Lin Yi thought as he saw the Emperor Penguin frantically flapping its belly and glaring fiercely at him, clearly showing its intent to intimidate.
Lin Yi immediately steadied his grip on the harpoon, preparing for battle.
"Splosh, splosh, splosh," a series of splashes erupted from the sea.
One penguin, two penguins... ten penguins... in an instant, the surface of the water was filled with penguins, most of them being Emperor Penguins.
The penguins extended their long scarlet tongues towards Lin Yi in a show of defiance. Although Lin Yi knew this was all a façade, he couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.
If I can't win, I should run. That was Lin Yi's current mindset. So when he saw the wave of penguins charging towards him, he instantly decided to flee first.
As Lin Yi dashed across the floating ice towards the outer edge, he occasionally glanced back at the approaching penguins. They looked like alien creatures now; each one had its tongue stretched out long and was baring its teeth at him with fierce expressions.
The floating ice on the sea kept "shaking." Despite Lin Yi's efforts to control his body, the visual deception was too severe; he nearly fell into the "water" several times. However, the pursuing penguins had no such concerns and quickly closed in behind him.
The Virtual Training Camp employed some unknown methods, and as the penguins approached, Lin Yi felt an overwhelming sense of oppression. Soon after, he began to feel a dull pain in his feet and back, likely from being attacked by the penguins' tongues.
Determined, Lin Yi closed his eyes and ran with all his might. By shutting off his vision, he was less susceptible to deception and could run a bit faster.
Just as Lin Yi was feeling proud of his cleverness, a loud roar suddenly echoed in his ears. Startled, he opened his eyes to see what was happening, but the moment he did, he was instantly terrified.
Before him stood a Giant Whale, its mouth wide open, filled with sharp teeth. At that moment, Lin Yi had already run right up to the Giant Whale, unable to stop in time. Guided by inertia, he found himself rushing straight into the whale's mouth. In an instant, he felt a sharp pain in his neck, and everything went dark. About three seconds later, Lin Yi received the verdict that he had been "eliminated."
Following the system's instructions, Lin Yi exited the virtual training room. Once outside, he noticed that many members of the Mercenary group were already waiting. His previously anxious heart calmed down considerably.
"Boss, you held on for quite a while!" Flower Cannon greeted him first upon seeing Lin Yi. As a skilled sniper lacking in close combat abilities, being eliminated early didn't reflect poorly on their capabilities.
Lin Yi chuckled lightly but didn't say much since many others were still inside. Unlike Li Qiweng and Pachy, who had experienced this kind of training before, Bai, Witerson II, Tony, and Jimmy were still holding on inside. However, what surprised Lin Yi the most was that Hai, who had always been low-profile in the team, was still persevering.
At the same time that Lin Yi emerged, Blonde Girl Ika was also eliminated shortly after; her strength should not be underestimated. As for those like Wu Hao, who possessed special abilities, they naturally couldn't showcase their strengths in a virtual environment. Although Number 19 was powerful and immune to injury, if his close combat skills were lacking, he would also be quickly eliminated. Both Woods and David had unique abilities—one could manipulate shadows while the other could fly—but those skills wouldn't be displayed in this Virtual Training Camp, leading to their swift elimination as well.
Ten minutes later, Bai, Witerson II, Tony, and Jimmy finally succumbed and were eliminated. Not long after that, Hai also exited the training room. Lin Yi could only watch in silence as this slender girl left without knowing what to say. He had never really paid much attention to her before; all he knew was that she had harbored feelings for the leader of the Blood Wolf Mercenary Group, Gu Hai. However, by now, it seemed likely that Gu Hai had perished in the vast Zombie Sea, leaving no possibility for any connection between them. Surprised by Hai's performance today, Lin Yi silently resolved to find an opportunity to learn more about this unassuming girl.
About an hour later, just as everyone was about to fall asleep, Li Qiweng and Pachy finally emerged from the training room.
