Ancient Truth There truly is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Everything comes at a cost, so when you think you've stumbled upon a great deal, it's wise to consider whether there's a pit waiting for you just around the corner. Don't get so caught up in your own joy that you end up falling right into it.
"Do you want money?" When Lin Yi heard Taichi asking him for cash, he was taken aback. He had thought they would simply let his team go out and kill Zombies as payment.
"I believe Mr. Lin knows that even stepping out to buy a cigarette requires money. We provided you with such fine weapons; how could we possibly give them away for free?" Taichi said with an air of certainty, making Lin Yi wish he could punch him. More than anything, he blamed himself for being naive, thinking he could score a big win. However, at that moment, any regrets seemed rather pointless.
"Alright, Mr. Taichi, you know our situation; we really don't have any money!" Lin Yi was primarily focused on how to acquire the weapons without paying for them. He didn't believe he had enough funds to cover the cost of those weapons.
"Haha, Mr. Lin is quite the jokester! How could someone living in this mansion not have money?" Taichi laughed heartily, though his gaze was directed at Pachy.
After hearing Taichi's words, Lin Yi suddenly slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "Right! We still have a stash of gold!"
"Mr. Lin is truly open-minded; with so much wealth at hand, he can even forget about its existence," Taichi subtly flattered Lin Yi. Whether or not Lin Yi accepted it was another matter entirely.
"Pachy, how much gold do we have? Is it enough to buy these?" Lin Yi looked at his companions, who were all eagerly gazing at him, realizing they were fond of these weapons. In their current situation, nothing could provide them with more security than these cutting-edge weapons representing humanity's latest technology. Gold might be enticing, but no amount of gold could be enjoyed without life to spend it.
"We have about seventy kilograms of gold left; I'm not sure if that's enough," Pachy replied. He understood that Taichi and his group were likely eyeing their gold but had refrained from seizing it directly for some reason.
"Of course, this gold..." Taichi paused, surveying the crowd before clearing his throat and saying, "isn't enough..."
"Then we won't buy anything," Lin Yi said. Although he liked the weapons, being played with felt quite unpleasant.
"However, you can help us with one task, and afterward, all these weapons will be yours. Of course, once you complete it, we'll also pay you extra," Taichi slowly revealed in his final few words.
The members of the Mercenary group seemed to breathe a sigh of relief as they exhaled the tension that had built up in their chests.

The second generation utilized special glasses; once worn, trainees would see a virtual scene and enter a simulated interface for training. Compared to the first generation, the second offered a stronger sense of realism. The first two generations could be considered basic; the third generation creates three-dimensional images around the trainees, fully simulating real environments for the most convincing training experience.
As for the improvements in the third generation, they essentially allow trainees to experience pain. Depending on the severity of the injury, there are different levels of pain sensation. Of course, if deemed dead during training, they would lose their qualification for that session and have to wait for the next one.
After listening to Li Qiweng's introduction, Lin Yi was eager to try it out. His biggest weakness lately had been his lack of combat ability; without the Potential Gene Drug, he was practically useless.
"Since you all understand the value of the Virtual Training Camp, I won't elaborate further. Everyone should rest well tonight; tomorrow we will head straight to the training camp for an experience," Taichi said as he seemed to have other matters to attend to, glancing occasionally at an ancient clock hanging in the room.
"I'll see Mr. Taichi off," Pachy nodded at the other team members and left with Taichi. Of course, everyone understood Pachy's actions; he was going to settle the payment for this batch of weapons. After all, he was the first to discover the gold initially and had led everyone here by helicopter from afar. So no one felt comfortable asking for a share of this windfall; they considered it as funding for their team's activities.
Lin Yi's physical condition had improved significantly by now; he no longer needed to lie in a hospital bed. It wasn't late yet, and Lin Yi didn't want to wander around aimlessly anymore. Besides, with Li Qiweng's company, he had no interest in going out to look at beautiful women. He wanted to prepare well for tomorrow's training camp.

"Oh? Willpower is fine, but your endurance seems lacking," Li Qiweng teased as she looked at him provocatively.
"What's that? You want to give it a try?" Lin Yi replied with a mischievous grin, his hands already starting to wander.
"Yeah, it's been a while since we did that. Don't you want to?"
"Then let's have a good time tonight," Lin Yi said as he stood up, preparing to lift Li Qiweng into his arms.
"No way! You're injured; you can't be messing around!" Li Qiweng protested, struggling to jump out of Lin Yi's embrace.
"Hehe, you'll find out soon enough whether I can or not."

Winter mornings always come a bit late. Lin Yi slept soundly until the sunlight streamed into his eyes, waking him up.
When Lin Yi opened his eyes, he was greeted by a slightly weary yet charming face, adorned with a sweet smile and sparkling eyes like black jewels. No matter how you looked at her, she was simply captivating.
"When did you wake up?" Lin Yi asked as he scratched the back of his head.
"One minute earlier than you!" Li Qiweng winked playfully, extending a finger, her youthful spirit shining through.
Lin Yi ruffled Li Qiweng's hair before quickly getting out of bed. Although the night had been somewhat tiring, he still felt quite happy.
The scene of over twenty people having breakfast together was quite spectacular. However, when everyone noticed Lin Yi's dark circles under his eyes, the atmosphere took on an inexplicable flavor.
Despite his flushed face, Lin Yi gritted his teeth and finished his meal before heading off to the training camp with everyone. Pachy led the way; Tai Chi had already given Lin Yi the address the day before.
The training camp was located in a rather remote area. After driving for half an hour into the outskirts, a large white building appeared before them. The house was surrounded by numerous trees, with only a single asphalt road leading inside. The guard at the entrance checked their passes, which Tai Chi had provided in advance, before allowing them all to enter.
The person responsible for receiving them was a young officer with the rank of Major, looking to be under thirty. He maintained a serious expression throughout and, after saluting them, led them directly to the heavily guarded Virtual Training Camp without any pleasantries.
From the outside, the training camp appeared to be quite expansive. The larger the training camp, the more realistic the simulated training scenarios inside. Lin Yi and the others underwent several minutes of security checks before being allowed into the Virtual Training Camp, confirming that everyone was clear.
Inside the Virtual Training Camp, white walls surrounded them, making the space feel particularly vast. However, within seconds, all virtual scenes sprang to life. Their first training session of the day was to familiarize themselves with this environment. The entire team was free to move around, shooting at each other with virtual guns or attacking various virtual characters provided by the system.
Lin Yi had initially planned to lead everyone in an epic battle, but now he was told that they could only train individually. His frustration was palpable. Even if Lin Yi wanted to find someone to collaborate with, the powerful virtual system would employ various means to separate anyone who tried to team up.
When the entire virtual system fully activated, Lin Yi found himself alone on the battlefield.
