The sunlight gradually faded, casting slanted shadows on the city walls, creating a transparent desolation. This enormous city should have been filled with noise, warmth, and vitality. But now, what remained was an endless chill of death, blood splattered on the walls, and scattered limbs strewn about. A pervasive aura of slaughter enveloped the entire fortress as both sides fought fiercely for their differing purposes. 0

"Whoosh..." Lin Yi could hear his own hurried breaths. Normally, after taking the Potential Gene Drug, he shouldn't be this exhausted while carrying someone. However, his injuries had worsened; he occasionally coughed violently as if trying to expel his internal organs from his chest. Although he had applied the best anti-inflammatory and hemostatic bandages to his back wound, the lack of rest had caused the wound, which had begun to close, to start bleeding again. 0

Not far away, Zombies seemed attracted by the scent of blood, relentlessly attacking Lin Yi. At this moment, in addition to wielding his own Silver Soul, he also held the one belonging to Li Qiweng. 0

Despite carrying Li Qiweng on his back, Lin Yi's movements were surprisingly agile. He couldn't allow the Zombies to get too close; otherwise, Li Qiweng would be in danger. The two Silver Souls danced in Lin Yi's hands like a protective barrier, and any approaching Zombie found its head severed in a single stroke. Yet he still needed to keep moving; right now, he was their strongest fighter and had to hold the rear. Of course, he wasn't selfish; Witerson II, with his formidable close-combat skills, stayed close by Lin Yi's side. Douglas, who could barely use psychic attacks now, also provided protection nearby while Tony fired wildly at the Zombies closing in on Lin Yi with his machine gun. 0

Ultimately, no one could outrun a vehicle with four wheels; aside from Lin Yi, everyone else struggled to keep pace with the armored car ahead. Although they were anxious, there was nothing they could do since there were no other vehicles available. 0

The most terrifying aspect was the complete rout of their forces, which turned what had been a balanced confrontation into an overwhelming defeat for them. Once they stopped working together against the enemy, the opposing side seized the opportunity. Aside from the armored troops who had some protection from tanks and armored vehicles and were temporarily safe from life-threatening danger, most soldiers faced a brutal slaughter. They didn't want to run; it was just that at the moment they turned to flee, a tide of Zombies surged towards them and overwhelmed them instantly. Soon enough, these once-living soldiers were reduced to mere piles of bones. 0

The horror of Zombies increased dramatically after their Bloodthirsty phase; they ran faster now, leading to even more people being engulfed by the sea of corpses. The sounds of desperate cries echoed endlessly, but at that moment, who could care for anyone else? Everyone regretted not having been born with two extra legs to run faster. Of course, that was impossible; it would have made them monsters. 0

No one wanted to become a meal for Zombies just as no one wished to be seen in such a state. Yet the cruelty of reality lay in the fact that whether one wished it or not, this was happening right before their eyes. It was brutal and real; this was life. 0

"Die!" With one last furious roar before death—a release of pent-up resentment—the soldier who refused to be devoured by Zombies detonated his last grenade. 0

The explosion was loud but quickly drowned out by the Zombie Sea. Lin Yi witnessed it all as his eyelids twitched slightly. He admired that soldier's struggle in those final moments. He wondered if he would have the courage to detonate a grenade if he were about to be eaten by Zombies. It seemed unlikely; perhaps until he reached the brink of death himself, he couldn't truly understand that brother's mindset. 0

Lin Yi continued running but also kept an eye on his teammates' situations. The armored car that had fled first was nowhere in sight now; fortunately, there were clear tracks on the ground for Pachy to follow without losing their target. Lin Yi questioned whether he could be considered a good person; at that moment when he was responsible for covering their retreat—dangerous as it was—he still chose to do so. Yet he felt immense fear: fear of dying just like this and fear that his relationship with Wen would end before it even began. He wanted to escape but seeing Witerson II, Douglas, and Tony beside him made him grit his teeth and persist. 0

Lin Yi wasn't sure how large the fortress actually was; all he could do was complain about its vastness as they ran for at least ten minutes without reaching their destination. The number of Zombies behind them grew as their ranks thinned out. Lin Yi felt a chill creeping up his spine; it felt as if someone were pulling at his legs making it increasingly difficult to move forward. He knew this was due to excessive blood loss and estimated that soon he would collapse on the ground. 0

"Witerson II, you and Tony go ahead! Douglas and I will hold them off for a bit!" Lin Yi frowned as he saw more Zombies closing in behind them. If they continued being entangled like this, casualties were inevitable. At that moment, they had reached a narrower street where Lin Yi felt confident enough to hold off some attackers for now. 0

Witerson II was born a soldier, and naturally, he would not be pretentious. The two nodded at Lin Yi and Douglas before quickening their pace. 0

“Douglas, keep an eye out for any defensive gaps!” Lin Yi said, charging straight into the Horde. 0

Although Lin Yi was carrying Li Qiweng on his back, his boldness came from his skill. With the superpowered Douglas by his side, what was there to fear? 0

The Silver Soul in Lin Yi's hands was like a meat grinder, continuously harvesting the heads of the Zombies. The space was narrow enough that Lin Yi could manage to defend himself from being surrounded by the Zombies. Douglas even helped him toss several Zombies aside, and together they unleashed a powerful offensive. 0

However, the good times didn’t last long; their speed in killing Zombies could not keep up with the influx of new ones joining the fray. Lin Yi was doing his best to slash through the horde, but gradually, the surrounding Zombies began to threaten Li Qiweng on his back, forcing him to retreat. 0

By this time, they had held out for nearly two minutes, and it seemed Witerson II and the others were safe. Lin Yi waved his knife at Douglas, signaling him to go ahead. Douglas nodded in understanding and then glided forward as if he were weightless, moving faster than a full sprint. 0

Lin Yi was surprised but not overly shocked. Having someone with an additional skill on his side was nothing but beneficial. With no worries behind him, Lin Yi also quickened his pace; at full speed, the ordinary Zombies behind him could not keep up. 0

Douglas was now moving like the wind. Lin Yi was already pushing himself to his limits, yet Douglas kept pace effortlessly. They raced down the narrow street, following their trail. 0

Suddenly, a large open area appeared before them, surrounded by iron fences—it was a military encampment. However, this encampment looked rather rudimentary; it was enclosed by two-meter-high iron fences and consisted of simple temporary housing, clearly hastily constructed. 0

What excited Lin Yi most about this place was the presence of a large Armed Helicopter preparing for takeoff. Pachy and the others were waving their fists at the helicopter, trying to prevent it from leaving. 0

Without delay, Lin Yi and Douglas jumped over the iron fence and headed straight for Pachy. 0

“Slo, are you planning to escape alone?” As Lin Yi approached the helicopter, he immediately recognized Slo standing at the cabin entrance—the very person who had deceived him into believing there was no helicopter available. Now here Slo was, ready to flee in one. 0

"Ha ha, if one doesn't act for oneself, who will? I've tried my best, but what can I do if I can't resist? Are you asking me to just sit here and wait? I'm not an idiot!" Slo laughed maniacally, as if the moment a person's hypocritical facade was stripped away, the so-called morality of humanity became insignificant. 0

Lin Yi wanted nothing more than to take Slo down with a single strike, but at that moment, Slo was aiming a Heavy Machine Gun at everyone. It seemed that if anyone made a move, he would unleash a massacre. 0

The cabin was already filled with soldiers, leaving no room for Lin Yi and his group to hitch a ride even if they wanted to. 0

Suddenly, a series of thumping sounds came from behind them. Lin Yi turned around and cursed under his breath; the Zombies had arrived and were frantically banging against the barricade. This group of ordinary Zombies had little intelligence and only knew to pound on the barrier as if they wanted to smash it to pieces. 0

Seeing the Zombies nearby threatening to breach their defenses, Slo quickly calmed himself and decided that retreating was the best option. But just then, the Wing, which had been spinning rapidly, suddenly came to a halt. 0

"Rick, are you insane? If you don't want to be eaten by those monsters, get this thing in the air now!" Slo's previously composed face twisted in frustration; if it weren't for the cramped cabin, he would have slapped Rick. 0

"The plane is broken," came Rick's emotionless voice from the cockpit, like a demon's whisper from hell. 0

Indeed, a broken plane meant they were close to death. The number of Zombies outside was increasing rapidly, and they could burst in at any moment. They didn't want to die, but there was no chance of escape now. 0

Suddenly, a dozen Giant Zombies appeared outside. They worked together to break through the iron barricade, and the Zombies surged into the camp like a flood. 0

Slo stood there in shock; his heart seemed to stop beating along with the Wing's engine shutting down. 0
