The flames grew fiercer, and the zombies continued their relentless attack. They showed no fear, even as the fire threatened to consume them entirely. However, Lin Yi and his companions had to step back; the intensity of the flames was enough to affect those standing nearby. 0

The zombies were ablaze, yet as long as they had not completely perished, they charged forward with all their might. Those trying to fend off the zombies found themselves in peril, needing to defend against both the undead and the flames they carried. The crowd became chaotic; after all, witnessing a flaming zombie lunging toward you was terrifying. 0

"Oh, damn it! These guys are disgusting!" a soldier whose clothes were ignited by the flames frantically slapped at his burning attire, while his comrades rushed over to help. 0

But at that moment, their defenses were already weak. With several people distracted, a few zombies seized the opportunity to rush in. The unfortunate soldiers were quickly overwhelmed and bitten without any chance of escape. 0

The screams served as a reminder to everyone present not to let their guard down, yet some still did. Lin Yi thought the raging fire would incinerate the zombies completely, but he failed to notice that Reagan had quietly taken to the air at some point. In battle, every moment of negligence could pose a deadly threat to one’s side, and Lin Yi was no exception this time. 0

The disorganized attacks from the zombies only made things worse for the already strained human forces. Civilians with little combat experience had no choice but to step in and fill the gaps in defense. However, it was clear that these untrained individuals lacked the knowledge needed to deal with zombies that knew nothing of death. 0

A middle-aged man who had just taken up a defensive position saw several zombies charging toward him and panicked, throwing down his weapon and running away. If it weren't for the soldiers around him fighting desperately, a breach in their defenses could lead to a domino effect, potentially breaking through their lines! 0

Slo watched anxiously from the sidelines, feeling like an ant on a hot pan. Unfortunately, he lacked the ability to be everywhere at once and couldn’t provide assistance in every direction. Just when he thought things were still under control, he noticed a young civilian wildly spraying bullets into a zombie's abdomen. But when he saw that the zombie's stomach had been blown open and its still-warm intestines were spilling out and writhing, he froze in terror. Slo wished he could rush over and slap some sense into that young man, but there was no time; while he hesitated, a zombie lunged at him and began greedily biting into his neck. 0

"This won't do, buddy; you need to put in more effort!" Lin Yi also noticed that their defensive circle was on the verge of collapse and felt deeply concerned. The recent blaze should have eliminated many zombies; now they were likely making one last desperate push. 0

Though Slo was frustrated, he couldn't express any dissatisfaction with Lin Yi's formidable team. Lin Yi could leave at any moment if he chose; Slo had to protect this place. 0

"Alright then, it's time for our final move!" Slo pulled out his communicator and shouted into it: "Everyone pay attention! Prepare high-explosive grenades! Five seconds for preparation!" 0

Slo gestured for Lin Yi's team to start retreating. Lin Yi signaled his team to fall back as well; a collective explosion of high-explosive grenades would be devastating. However, as everyone retreated together, the zombies' attacks did not cease; they seemed even more frenzied. 0

As a professional soldier, Slo coordinated effectively. Once his five-second countdown ended, everyone instantly threw their grenades before dropping down collectively. Of course, those new recruits were pulled down by veteran soldiers like eagles snatching prey. 0

The massive explosion sounded as if it would obliterate everything around them. Lin Yi felt as though his ears were not merely buzzing but being torn apart; it was unbearable. He opened his mouth in an attempt to alleviate the discomfort but instantly felt debris rushing into it instead. 0

“Phew, phew, phew!” Lin Yi hurriedly spat out the foreign objects. He could only feel his mouth moving, but he couldn't hear a sound. The sudden deafness was particularly uncomfortable; it felt as if he had lost an important means of asserting his existence in an instant. 0

The roaring noise gradually diminished, but Lin Yi's discomfort only intensified. At that moment, Li Qiweng patted him on the shoulder. He could see Li Qiweng smiling and gesturing, but he couldn't hear anything. 0

“Am I deaf from the explosion? I can't hear anything!” Lin Yi tried to express his feelings to those around him with all his might, and everyone seemed to look at him with sympathy. 0

Slo approached Lin Yi with a smile, then stretched out his hands to repeatedly press on the area around Lin Yi's ears, followed by massaging his ears with his index fingers. 0

“How does it feel?” Slo asked after about a minute. 0

“Damn, my ears hurt so much!” Lin Yi covered his ears and then realized he could actually hear sounds again. 0

Slo nodded and said, “As long as you feel pain, that's good. The explosion was too loud, and you didn't take any protective measures, so it's natural to experience temporary deafness.” 0

“Why is it that none of you are affected?” Lin Yi noticed that he seemed to be the only one in this situation. 0

Li Qiweng shrugged in frustration and pointed to his own ears. Lin Yi looked around and discovered that everyone had something in their ears—those things that could block sound. 0

Now that he no longer had to worry about being deaf, he finally paid attention to the battlefield. The inner city, once surrounded by high walls, had turned into a scene of ruins, with massive craters everywhere. The zombies that had once looked ferocious and ready to pounce were now blown to bits. Those zombies that had miraculously survived the blast were easily dispatched by the soldiers; the combat prowess of these professional soldiers was undeniable. 0

This series of explosions not only wiped out the vast majority of zombies but also overturned two armored vehicles that had failed to retreat in time. The sheer power was evident. 0

However, good and bad always go hand in hand; they always appear together. 0

“Do you all feel it's very quiet?” Li Qiweng looked around as if sensing something ominous. 0

Hearing Li Qiweng's reminder, everyone finally noticed the eerie silence surrounding them, aside from their own efforts to kill the Zombies. There should have been many people in other areas, yet it seemed that no one had come to check on them. 0

"How can there be such a huge explosion and no one else reacts?" Lin Yi frowned, increasingly feeling that something was wrong. That chilling sensation returned, lingering like a persistent shadow. 0

"Have you noticed Reagan?" The recent battle had been so intense that no one had paid attention to where the instigator had gone. 0

With Lin Yi's reminder, everyone finally reacted. Reagan wouldn't be as foolish as those Zombies, standing around in the fire without hiding. The only explanation was that he was still alive; if he could infect the people in the inner city all by himself, then those weaker individuals in the outer city would naturally have little chance of escaping his grasp. 0

"Let's go out and take a look!" Slo, aware of the gravity of the situation, immediately ordered the troops to assemble and prepare to head toward the area they had come from. 0

"I don't think that's necessary!" Li Qiweng said coldly, turning his back to everyone. 0

Slo silently cursed Li Qiweng for his arrogance, but the next moment he gaped in shock, speechless. 0

Not far away, a group was approaching them with an eerie silence, moving in perfect unison. However, they shouldn't be called humans; these creatures were covered in blood and lacked any intact skin. They were all Zombies, and freshly turned ones at that. 0

But to be precise, not all of them were Zombies. At least the man in a suit standing among them—Mr. Reagan—still appeared human, even if his heart at that moment might be more repulsive than that of a Zombie. 0

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm back," Reagan's voice was arrogant; even from a distance, they could feel his madness. 0

"Then we'll send you back to hell!" Witerson II raised his gun at Reagan. 0

Indeed, Reagan stumbled back a few steps, momentarily subdued by Witerson II's imposing presence. Witerson II's marksmanship wasn't particularly impressive; that shot was more about venting his anger than anything else. 0

"Ladies and gentlemen, there's no need for violence; let's talk this out," Reagan said as he straightened his slightly disheveled clothing and led the Zombie Army closer to them. 0

"You traitor, you don't deserve to talk to us!" Jiao Jiao thought of how this person had nearly caused her death multiple times, and the anger within her made her feel like she could bite him to death without relieving her resentment. 0

"Miss, you shouldn't lose your temper so easily; no one will want you in the future," Reagan said, his tone still calm, though it might have been feigned. 0

Jiao Jiao huffed and pulled Hai away to a corner, not wanting to pay any more attention to Reagan. 0

Lin Yi stared at the Zombie Army for a while before finally recognizing the figure that seemed both familiar and strange. 0

"Zhao Pei, what do you want?" Lin Yi looked at this haunting figure of a former friend, feeling a mix of emotions. 0

Zhao Pei waved at Lin Yi, seemingly greeting him. The corners of his shriveled mouth struggled to curl upward, as if trying to express a smile. However, this simple action appeared so difficult on his parched face. Zhao Pei seemed somewhat displeased by this sensation, lowering his head and shaking it. 0

Lin Yi knew that Zhao Pei could not express words now and had to rely on Jerry for translation. Jerry was naturally pleased to be able to showcase his skills at that moment, but unfortunately, he couldn't control the enigmatic Zhao Pei. 0

After communicating in a special way, Jerry hesitantly told Lin Yi, "He is here to save us!" 0

Absurd! That was Lin Yi's only thought. Perhaps dealing with this persistent entity required firearms as the best means of communication. He glanced at Slo, who nodded in agreement. 0

"Brothers, let's kill them! If they don't die, we will!" Lin Yi didn't want to waste any more words; he raised Silver Soul and charged forward. Of course, no one noticed the bag of chocolate-wrapped items in his hand. 0
