The sunlight ultimately triumphed over the darkness. When the warm rays illuminated everyone, they truly felt their own existence. Perhaps since the moment humanity first learned to fear, darkness has been an inescapable demon. It evokes feelings of loneliness and helplessness, causing pain and confusion. People fear it yet can only accept its presence. Thus, humanity yearns for light even more, much like a man desires the alluring charm of a woman. 0

The brilliant sunlight gave everyone courage and hope. The giant python, known as Corpseification, finally succumbed to the frenzied gunfire from dozens of weapons, exploding into a mass of flesh. The foul-smelling liquid from its body gradually stained the surface of the lake black. The patrolling soldiers had already been killed by the python and now floated nearby, quickly becoming unbearably rancid. 0

Flower Cannon waved his hand, trying to disperse the omnipresent stench, but it was clearly in vain. Fatigue was etched on everyone's faces, and their reactions seemed to dull considerably. 0

"Let's go; we need to get to shore quickly," Lin Yi said, his voice hoarse, clearly exhausted from shouting and firing just moments ago. 0

The waves created by the speedboat splashed against them, jolting many out of their stupor. They should feel fortunate that no one had died as they crossed this line between life and death. However, weariness washed over them, leaving little energy for reflection. 0

Lin Yi remained tense, scanning the surroundings anxiously. He feared that other creatures might launch a surprise attack or that they might encounter new patrols. He had to stay alert; everyone had entrusted their lives to him, and he needed to shoulder that responsibility. 0

Much of Lake Jowu had turned into marshland; the actual water area was quite small. Under Pachy's skilled handling, the speedboat maintained a high speed. Bai seemed to have developed a competitive spirit; despite falling behind several times, he quickly surged ahead again. Lin Yi had no time to concern himself with such matters; Jerry was currently guiding him. He didn't expect Pearl Amigal's tribal chief Kaimbadi to assist them; what he truly wanted was a place free of zombies. However, having just seen the Corpseification python, he couldn't shake off a sense of foreboding—this land might already be infested with zombies. 0

Preparing for the worst, Lin Yi tried to adjust his state of mind but couldn't help but shrink his neck in discomfort due to being soaked through. Time was pressing, and no one had spare clothing for the journey. Li Qiweng was particularly unfortunate; the only dry clothing she had was donated by Aoling Er. 0

The speedboat soon reached the shore, where there were no armed border guards waiting to apprehend them—only desolate and rugged mountain paths. However, not far from the shore stood a military base, albeit on a smaller scale. The group entered with their weapons drawn but found it completely deserted. Aside from a few unexpected encounters on the speedboat, there seemed to be no one else around. At this point, Lin Yi couldn't worry about anything else and quickly retrieved a set of clothes to change into. When they left Froeman's military camp, Froeman had thoughtfully ensured that each person took at least one set of clothing for emergencies. Since there were female soldiers in the camp, Li Qiweng naturally received enough new clothes. 0

Inside the military camp were uniforms; after Lin Yi and Li Qiweng changed into theirs, everyone exchanged meaningful smiles with them. Lin Yi glanced at Li Qiweng; her already striking appearance was enhanced in military attire, showcasing her strength and grace. Of course, Lin Yi felt he looked even more handsome in his uniform—more like a captain. 0

Once everything was sorted out, Lin Yi and his companions replenished their ammunition in one of the armories within the camp. In this critical moment, ammunition was more important than anything else. The tribal chief Jerry mentioned was waiting for them not far away; although they still had three hours until their agreed meeting time, they needed to set off immediately. 0

Under Jerry's guidance, Lin Yi and his group headed toward their destination. Years of development had left this remote area feeling far removed from civilization; its primitive essence remained intact. Exhausted yet determined, they pushed forward solely on willpower, eager to find who they were searching for so they could finally rest. 0

After stumbling along for two hours, they finally arrived at the designated meeting point. Without communication devices, they could only wait patiently. Many were utterly spent from days of marching and hadn't even managed to eat before falling asleep. Lin Yi initially planned to assign some people to keep watch but seeing everyone's weary faces decided instead to stand guard himself. 0

The wind brushed against their cheeks as everything fell silent around them. The isolation of nature gradually calmed their previously restless hearts. Life was beautiful; the world still held its charm. 0

“Captain! Captain!” A familiar voice suddenly rang in his ears, and Lin Yi momentarily lost his bearings. Opening his eyes, he saw Witerson II looking at him in a panic, confusion washing over his face. 0

“What’s wrong?” Lin Yi stood up, realizing that it was pitch dark around them, with only a bonfire lit nearby. 0

At that moment, Lin Yi finally registered that he had just fallen asleep! 0

“Damn it, what’s going on?” Lin Yi's mind raced as he struggled to express his thoughts; how could a group of people fall asleep in such a dangerous place? 0

“Captain, look over there.” Witerson II pointed towards the ten o'clock direction. 0

Lin Yi followed his gaze and saw several flickering lights in the distance. Even from afar, it was clear that a fire was raging there. 0

“I’m sorry, everyone. I accidentally fell asleep,” Lin Yi said, feeling guilty as he noticed the worried expressions on their faces. 0

“Don’t blame yourself, Captain. We’ve all been exhausted for hours; everyone is fine now,” Flower Cannon said as he patted Lin Yi on the shoulder, though his eyes remained fixed on the distant glow. 0

At that moment, Jerry approached Lin Yi and mimicked the others by calling out, “Captain, Kaimbadi might not have come.” Based on reality, the place with the fire should be their tribe’s location. After Jerry spoke, he looked at Lin Yi with fear because he saw Lin Yi’s eyes wide open as if ready to devour him. 0

As Jerry had feared, Lin Yi grabbed him by the collar and shouted, “Are you messing with us? We traveled through hardships to get here, and now you tell us our only hope is gone!” 0

Jerry was still just a kid; seeing Lin Yi glaring at him like an angry deity made him panic. “N-no! It’s safer here than at home; it can’t be!” 0

At that moment, Li Qiweng walked over to Lin Yi and tugged at his arm. “Don’t blame the boy; something must have happened at the Kaimbadi tribe. Let’s go check it out.” 0

In front of Li Qiweng, Lin Yi always remained calm. He slowly released Jerry's collar but shot him one last fierce glare that made Jerry back away repeatedly in fright. 0

"Now, should we go back to the past or find another way? Everyone, share your thoughts." Lin Yi felt the weight of responsibility for everyone's lives. In the face of uncertainty, he didn't want to make a unilateral decision. 0

"I'll follow Captain's lead," Witerson II responded first, and most others echoed their agreement, deferring to Lin Yi's judgment. 0

"I personally think something must have happened over there; we don't need to get involved," Bai said, looking at Lin Yi and dismissing the others' opinions without concern. 0

"Old Bai has a point; let's avoid it!" Lin Yi also preferred not to stir up trouble. 0

Just as everyone was preparing to search for an alternative route, a sudden tremor of shouts echoed from not far away. However, before Lin Yi could decipher the language, a woman appeared, running towards them with a child in her arms. She was desperately trying to communicate something, but everyone looked confused and couldn't understand her. 0

Realizing that they were bewildered, the woman pointed towards a distant fire and continued shouting. Her meaning was clear: she wanted Lin Yi and his group to help. 0

Lin Yi glanced at the reactions of his companions, who seemed to be waiting for his decision. A bad feeling crept into his heart, and he gritted his teeth and said, "Let's go!" 0

Before Lin Yi could take a step forward, the woman suddenly knelt on the ground, clutching his pant leg. She bowed repeatedly while tears streamed down her face. The child on her back had also woken up and was crying incessantly. 0

Lin Yi had never been a hard-hearted person, and this scene made it even harder for him to turn away. He looked at his companions, particularly at Bai, who was beside him. Jiao Jiao tugged at Bai's sleeve. 0

"Alright, but if we encounter something we can't handle, we retreat immediately!" Bai finally nodded. Lin Yi respected him; he couldn't always be stubborn. In fact, most people had already expressed their willingness to follow Lin Yi's lead. While his opinion mattered, he also needed to consider the majority. 0

Lin Yi helped the woman up and gestured for her to lead the way. The woman wiped her tears away joyfully and kept bowing in gratitude. 0

The woman ran quickly, and since Lin Yi's group had rested well, they managed to keep pace with her. After running about ten kilometers, they arrived at a place engulfed in raging flames. 0

"Roar!" A familiar sound reached their ears once again. At that moment, everyone felt their hearts tremble; they had entered the demon realm once more. 0

Everyone nervously raised their guns, scanning the surroundings. It wasn't that they didn't want to leave; it was just that the distant shadows had already informed them that the Zombies had discovered their presence! 0

At that moment, a scream pierced the air, reaching everyone's ears. 0

A man stumbled out from the flames, clutching his neck. Just then, a Zombie lunged at him, sinking its teeth into his neck once more. 0

The woman leading them let out a piercing scream and charged toward the biting Zombie. 0

"Grab her!" Lin Yi shouted, realizing too late that the woman had already rushed forward. Jack, closest to her, quickly grabbed her, no matter how much she struggled to reach the Zombie. 0

"Prepare for battle!" Lin Yi was the first to raise his gun, aiming at the Zombie that was baring its teeth at him. 0

After a few gunshots rang out, the Zombie charged even faster, and Lin Yi missed every shot. 0

Seeing the Zombie approaching, Li Qiweng drew his Silver Soul from his back and skillfully dashed forward. With a swift strike, he decapitated the creature; the simplest move executed with extreme speed yielded the desired result. 0

The raging flames seemed to tremble as shadows around them transformed into visible rotting Zombies. Among these Zombies were several newly turned ones with bloodied faces; it appeared that many from this tribe had already succumbed to Corpseification. 0

The woman screamed in agony, her voice hoarse from despair. 0

Lin Yi and the others were either brandishing knives or taking aim, ready for battle! 0
